John McCain’s farewell message.

“My fellow Americans, whom I have gratefully served for sixty years, and especially my fellow Arizonans,

"Thank you for the privilege of serving you and for the rewarding life that service in uniform and in public office has allowed me to lead. I have tried to serve our country honorably. I have made mistakes, but I hope my love for America will be weighed favorably against them.

"I have often observed that I am the luckiest person on earth. I feel that way even now as I prepare for the end of my life. I have loved my life, all of it. I have had experiences, adventures and friendships enough for ten satisfying lives, and I am so thankful. Like most people, I have regrets. But I would not trade a day of my life, in good or bad times, for the best day of anyone else's.

"I owe that satisfaction to the love of my family. No man ever had a more loving wife or children he was prouder of than I am of mine. And I owe it to America. To be connected to America's causes – liberty, equal justice, respect for the dignity of all people – brings happiness more sublime than life's fleeting pleasures. Our identities and sense of worth are not circumscribed but enlarged by serving good causes bigger than ourselves.

"'Fellow Americans' – that association has meant more to me than any other. I lived and died a proud American. We are citizens of the world's greatest republic, a nation of ideals, not blood and soil. We are blessed and are a blessing to humanity when we uphold and advance those ideals at home and in the world. We have helped liberate more people from tyranny and poverty than ever before in history. We have acquired great wealth and power in the process.

"We weaken our greatness when we confuse our patriotism with tribal rivalries that have sown resentment and hatred and violence in all the corners of the globe. We weaken it when we hide behind walls, rather than tear them down, when we doubt the power of our ideals, rather than trust them to be the great force for change they have always been.

"We are three-hundred-and-twenty-five million opinionated, vociferous individuals. We argue and compete and sometimes even vilify each other in our raucous public debates. But we have always had so much more in common with each other than in disagreement. If only we remember that and give each other the benefit of the presumption that we all love our country we will get through these challenging times. We will come through them stronger than before. We always do.

"Ten years ago, I had the privilege to concede defeat in the election for president. I want to end my farewell to you with the heartfelt faith in Americans that I felt so powerfully that evening.

"I feel it powerfully still.'

"Do not despair of our present difficulties but believe always in the promise and greatness of America, because nothing is inevitable here. Americans never quit. We never surrender. We never hide from history. We make history.

"Farewell, fellow Americans. God bless you, and God bless America."

  • Good Morning D-League friends
  • 82 degrees in my back yard with a high of 89 expected. Skies are Kentucky Blue and clouds Kentucky white.
  • A sign football is 5 days away. I don't count the NFL anymore, no interest
  • Last night we were blessed with a heavy rain and a little fireworks in the sky. All welcome
  • 3 cups of black coffee has me in the right direction
  • The hogs have been driven out for now. Buzzards were circling over the swamp so something happened.
  • Do State Troopers still change tires for motorist and why is the man sitting in the car while the Trooper does all of the work. Something seems wrong about this picture.

Note to self: Send out Mrs Starchief and hunker down low in the seat.

The Devil Is Beating His Wife

Well today the old devil took it out on his wife and gave her a good whipping. The photo is not the best but in the back of the house facing west it was pouring the rain but in my front yard it was dry as a bone and the sun was beating down. To the old timers down South that is known as "the devil is beating his wife". We probably had an inch or more rain in the back yard and none (zero) in the front. You could literally walk into a rain storm.

Happy Tuesday D. It's T-Minus 603 for me. During a particularly brutal stretch of work a while back I figured out how many days -- minus weekends, holidays and minimal vacations- I'd have to work until retiring was a plausible option.

So off I go to knock out day 603. This is going to be a 10-12 hour one.

Hope everybody else has a good one.

Good morning everyone from sunny SWFL. At least sunny until about three o’clock. Then it will start clouding up and rain for an hour or two like it does everyday in the summer. Going to meet a friend and UK grad Saturday to watch the game with him. He lives in the Lauderdale area, so the wife and I are going to make a weekend out of it. Hope y’all have a good one

gooD morning...
Daughter #2 goes back to the Dr on Thursday...scheduling C section. My guess (or hope) is that it'll be Friday or next Tuesday. Baby appears to be healthy...just little. Like 5ish lbs little...due date is 3 weeks away.

@warrior-cat I cut the cord about a month ago. Had Dish for 18 years...I just told'em I was done. Period. Sent my receivers, remotes, switch & the satellite thingy back to them. I have a Firestick & then got a free Roku stick for signing up for DirectTV Now. Saving about $100 a month. I'm OK with it so far, still adjusting & working out some bugs.

Thanks @MdWIldcat55 ... just did some quick hillbilly math and I have approx. 3,435 days left! SON OF A!!

Good morning from ATX. Currently 80°F. Expecting more triple-digits (102°F) again today.

Congrats on cutting the cord. Yeah, we're also looking hard at it here soon, perhaps even over the next few weeks. We'll see.

I've got nothing else. Y'all behave.

It was kind of rough yesterday but I feel alot better this morning. About to go get this apartment on the Southside and get my job lined up.

  • Good Tuesday Morning, D-League
  • 82º on the Gulf Coast at 9:00 AM. Plenty of blue skies and sunshine.
  • Good day for the beach or a little fishing.
  • Four days until kick off. Counting down
  • Saw the doc yesterday and he said I will need surgery.
  • So that knocks me out of the Florida game in Gainesville.
  • The coffee is excellent this morning and I think I will have another cup
  • Take care all and keep the faith
  • Go Cats.

Well that’s a bummer. Get better soon.

76.3° F here already, so we are starting out toward a hot day. Got the yard edged and mowed yesterday. Got so hot it had to be a two shower day. I am planning on making today a one shower day.

Sawnee Cat good luck on the surgery. It is something big or little?

Yes, good luck on the surgery.

Thanks everyone for the well wishes regarding my upcoming surgery. When I saw the doc yesterday he said he was hoping we could treat with meds but that is not working out. So he said we would have to go in there and try to correct matters. I told him I would sharpen his knife if he would just get me out of this discomfort and pain. What started as a UTI infection has made it's rounds in my system and now I am where I am.

But I will get past this, just need a little time. We are a tough breed. Your thoughts and prayers are appreciated.
