Did he mention “defensive intensity” and “weak-side help” … ?? I always remember him talking about those two (2) things in interviews.

Boeheim never came out of a zone, just like Cal never comes off man...a smart coach changes his defense and traps when needed, all based on your opponent and particular situation.

Being one dimensional gets your ass kicked if you don't have overwhelming speed, athleticism and length to recover.

That's a huge strgength of the 1 -3 1. No he didn't say but I watched every game I could when he was coaching.

I agree with your zone concept, but Coach Knight played a little zone from time to time. Grew into it because early in his career he never did.
