CI Wrestling Thread #56

Also, I have no idea where the dude went who does the Cornette artwork but it's funny to pick up on things Punk says to let you know he listens to either the full shows or clips. He used "hat on a hat" to Rollins on his wardrobe which is a phrase Cornette uses often and they mock "Thanks, guys!" almost weekly. I'm hoping Punk pulls out a Seth "Franklin" Rollins soon.

AEW did 609K and a .18 this week.
Olympics is being cited as the reason. Still, looks atrocious.
Apparently still no deal between Warner Bros. and AEW, and they are beyond their window of exclusivity. But is there any other network that would want them?
I really enjoy AEW. But their position as a going concern is starting to look precarious.

Pretty cool that it’s more than what’s on tv with the collaboration…stolen from srs…

Joe Hendry says the WWE/TNA agreement lets him train full-time at the PC.

"I’m in a situation where we’re having historic collaboration between TNA Wrestling and WWE. We’re in a situation where TNA Wresting have worked it out with WWE where I can appear on TNA Wrestling as a contracted talent, I can appear on NXT, and I can train at the Performance Center full-time and do indies and do signings. This is unprecedented."

So Conrad has a podcast with freaking Adam Bomb now? How close are we to a Kizarny podcast?

Yes I know he was cool as Wrath for a couple of months until Kevin Nash buried him to look good for Goldberg 🙄

Only thing for certain about a potential (or not) AEW/WBD deal is that a wrestling journalist isn't breaking the story. They've been reporting for well over a year something something Max something something they really like each other. We'll probably know something concrete in a month or two from a mainstream site.

And yeah, bad number but the Olympics is a legit excuse. NXT's number crashed too. Interesting though that it was back to a "normal" show for Dynamite and barely did 600K. Hopefully it improves as the month progresses.

Is this post meant to demean Conrad or build him up because honestly I’m more sure. Adam Bomb/Wrath was pretty cool.

Sounds like Britt is a bit problematic. All her stuff with Thunder Rosa a couple years ago, now this. Might be time to cut bait with her.
I hadn’t read it but a few things talking out loud

1 - is the match off with Sasha or will she be back by then

2 - I think it’s harder to cut bait with her being with Adam Cole

3 - if they do cut bait does wwe go after her - they’ve shown with punk and others they can handle people with poor past reputations that can draw and wrestle and she can wrestle better than half the current roster

I read something on one of the dirt sheets this week that she and Cole aren’t together anymore.

I’m sure WWE would be interested if she were on the market.

Cole posted something on social media saying he was moving back to Pennsylvania by himself. Of course she's from Pittsburgh so who knows. But they never post pictures with each other anymore.
I would assume the match is still happening.

Interesting…

Daniel Garcia's AEW contract is nearing its end.

The former ROH Pure Champion was viciously attacked by MJF on the July 3rd AEW Dynamite and has been out of action since. Rumors have been circulating that Garcia had re-signed with AEW after his initial contract expired, but that is not the case. According to the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, Garcia has not re-signed and is considering offers from other promotions, including WWE.

It is noted that AEW wants Garcia back, and the angle with MJF was designed to set up a heated feud for his return. However, if he decides to leave, the brutal attack by MJF will serve a similar narrative purpose as Bron Breakker's attack on Ricochet when he left WWE.

Garcia joined AEW in 2020 and has been a regular on their programming since. He has faced top talents such as Bryan Danielson, Will Ospreay, The Elite, and more, quickly becoming one of the company’s rising stars.

IMHO, I think Garcia is probably just another guy. He’s good in the ring but doesn’t have any real charisma in all the years I’ve watched him.

I don’t think he will ever get above the top of the mid card as he currently is in AEW.

I couldn’t blame him for giving WWE a shot. They might unlock something in him that hasn’t clicked so far.

- I can't get enough of those Rock memes. Guy seems like the nicest asshole in Hollywood.

- Agree on Garcia. The personality isn't there even though he's good between the ropes. WWE, specifically NXT, would welcome him. I would be less excited but I'm just an idiot fan.

- When was the last WWE backstage altercation or online drama? (between wrestlers, obviously leaving out the Vince stuff) AEW's had multiple suspensions, brawls, egos clash publically, wrestlers on social media air dirty laundry while others state they wish their co-workers would stfu, and the owner feared for his life. That's just in five years. I'm surprised Tony's hair hasn't turned white.

There's probably things that happen in WWE but no one goes tattling to Meltzer or posting on line. Which is the way it should be.

It happens in life but I wouldn't have hired MJF's gf in the first place. If they're married, why not, but gf, no. They're both young and if it doesn't work out, you've got MJF who you can't lose all over your show and his ex backstage in an interview role. She's of course going to tell her bf that Britt is upset which leads to MJF, your star and a guy you want far away from any drama, involved. Baker may be a piece of work too which doesn't help. Nevermind that away from that, we've got Miro who apparently refused to job, got divorced, and moved to Bulgaria or something while apparently still under contract. And Tony is still paying him I guess? Like, you can just refuse to work, leave the country for awhile, and not get fired?

Saved By The Bell, Mickey Mouse bullshit.

Not going out on a limb here but in three years Fatu and Breakker will be world champions. Would love to see Fatu vs Reigns at a WM for the title down the road.

I think this is the same predictions I had too.

Guessing with bloodline rules Cody has Orton/Owens and Roman help him.

Bayley over Jax (Jax already has Queen of the Ring, doesn't need the actual title too)
Liv over Rhea (Dom screws up like previously but we don't get the full turn yet)
Knight over Paul (should've already happened)
Bron over Sami (can't let Bron go down 0-2 here and Sami is probably getting involved in Bloodline matters in 2025)
Drew over Punk (Drew's been screwed so much, you gotta give him the win here. Can't imagine this feud doesn't continue but Drew needs to get the best of Punk at an important show at some point. Punk being 0-1 doesn't hurt him. Drew losing makes him look like a putz)
Priest over Gunther (toughest one to predict but you don't call a turning face street trash and then a few weeks later win his title. Gunther wins in a rematch in Berlin though)
Cody over Solo (interference galore and then Roman returns. Will be messy like Mania but SS '24 will likely be remembered as the return of Reigns as a face to a massive pop the likes of which we haven't seen in years. Not crazy about "Bloodline Rules" but it is what it is)

I think it is still too early to have Priest take the L if he going to be established as a championship level guy.

Geez…

Sammy Guevara gives up plans to return to AEW

According to Bryan Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer, In fact, Sammy Guevara would have rejected some plans that had the leadership of AEW to join him once again as a heel to Chris Jericho, in the storyline of the Learning Tree.

Once declined such plans, Sammy Guevara was then sent back to Ring of Honor, to work as babyface, waiting for more concrete plans for his character.
