CI Wrestling Thread #56

That’s way too soon and way too early for a guy just outta NXT.
It would make sense but the timing isn’t right. Steiner has literally 10 televised matches under his belt. All signs point to him being the guy but right now you can’t take a chance on throwing him into a program with the best thing in professional wrestling at the time. Roman is in the midst of an all time level of reign (no pun intended). You can’t just take a chance on having a rookie stop that.

Maybe in a year? Those are the types of guys you'd like to make. Think Taker's streak. That would have made someone else. Brock didn't need the rub. I think of beating Reigns as a similar thing.

I think Steiner Jr will be a game changer for WWE and hopefully is what they need to fix their shitty product. However, NXT 2.0 sucks and nobody watched. So the audience who watched him are not the same people who watch WWE. You bring in Steiner Jr and pit him against Reigns right away is a lose/lose. Either he goes over reigns and now someone that nobody knows has the title, or he gets buried right away.
Have him win a long streak. He’s a big guy, so having him win a stretch of squash matches makes sense. Just let him grow organically.

I hope that college/olympic wrestler works out as well. And I watched him win the Gold medal in the Olympics last year. Literally zero idea what happened and how he won. He was just all of a sudden very happy and celebrating and I couldn't figure out what happened. Fake wrestling makes more sense than real wrestling

lol, where's the attraction

I think Wardlow has got it. He’s got the look, intensity, and now that I hear him on the mic, I think he’s great. Damn good cadence to his voice, speaks well, and speaks with a passion. I can get on board with this push.

Sorry for the lack of children's programming like you get from WWE, have you tried firing up some cartoons on Disney+ yet?
i dont watch wwe or subscribe to disney plus

jeff hardy's debut was kind of anti climatic. crowd was lame. but I did tune in to watch. i don't own a neilson so I wont count towards the ratings.

Watching AEW with an open mind tonight. Hardy thing was meh. Did like the Wardlow segment as well as the William Regal stuff. He is great. Not entirely sure what that last tag team was. Is that Luke Perry’s kid with the dinosaur? Stupid gimmicks but weren’t too terrible. I actually liked the team they took on. Now I have some skelator woman and some little fat legged Russian midget in a match. This alone has damn near negated any of the good stuff they’ve done tonight.

AEW has so many tag teams I wish they would do a TBS Tag Title kind of like the old US Tag Titles.

Women’s wrestling just sucks. Don’t hold it against AEW.

I’m getting this feeling Wardlow is not going to win the title from Sammy. It should be Wardlow carrying that belt until Miro comes back from injury.

It wouldn't make sense for him not to win the belt. It's been a low key story for weeks now.

Maybe it was just me but I was very underwhelmed by Dynamite tonight. The Wardlow promo was great but the rest just left me underwhelmed. The Jericho turn you could see coming a mile away. The spot with Kingston and the table was damn close to a botch if it wasn't. Hager really did not put him through that table well as his head and neck took the brunt of the hit. We all knew Jeff Hardy was showing up soon so when the AFHO voted him out, you could see what was going to happen as well. AEW has been killing it. Last night wasn't one of their better efforts IMO.

Other than Thunder Rosa and Leyla Hirsch I thought it was a really good show. I do think they tried to do too much in the two hours. I suppose it's better than Raw where sometimes nothing happens in three hours.

Sting is the latest to write for the Players' Tribune, definitely worth reading.

That’s the problem with WWE right now is you don’t have many main event caliber guys

Drew
AJ
Seth
Big E
KO

That’s about it so ya chances are no one is going to beat Brock and Roman except each other and 3 of the guys I listed haven’t been in the title picture for over a year now
That the problem with 50/50 booking no one gets over. Who has not had to worry about 50/50 the past years...

Roman Reigns
Brock Lesnar

Who are the biggest stars in the company... those 2 guys.

^ I like Brock. He's an attraction without the belt. But they have made him lose enough in the last five years to make the domination quite as appealing.

They let a 50-year old Goldberg squash him.
They let Seth Rollins beat him (the most ridiculous one) and he beat him twice
Roman beat him in SummerSlam 2018
Lost clean to McIntyre
He also took dirty losses to Reigns and Lashley

Good news/bad news for AEW

Dynamite had 945,000 viewers which was down a bit from last week.

They were #1 in the 18-49 with a .40 which was up 12 percent from last week.

Only way I see him NOT winning the TNT title is if it's from MJF/Shawn Spears interference. Nothing else would make sense.
I think that happens - and I'm okay with that since I like Scorpio. If they give him a 7-day reign.... woof.

I'm not on the Kingston bandwagon. His "young guys" statement.... He's 40. Yeah, that's young compared to me, but....

He was out of position prior to the powebomb and very noticeably turned around to get into the right position. Things happen, but they should have cut to a different camera angle.

Danielson and Regal have made me care more about Moxley than anything else over the past decade.

The Acclaimed entertain me. They would be top draws anywhere else, but they might as well be wearing Dante Allen jerseys....

According to Brandon Thurston they were down quite a bit in the 50+.

I don’t think AEW’s target audience watches traditional TV. The Jeff Hardy debut already has 1.5 million views on YouTube.

On the other side NXT’s audience is about 75-80% 50+.

Could some of the dip in ratings be b/c of 24/7 war coverage?
2 NBA games and a bunch of college basketball, but also the overall size of the TV audience looked to be down from the previous week. The 18-49 ratings, according to the below links, was 0.29 or greater for the top 15 last week, this week only 7 programs drew a 0.29. The farther you go down the chart, the results are largely the same. Across the board cable ratings were all down this week compared to last.

Meanwhile broadcast TV ratings were up nearly across the board.

UFC and AEW are two of the best ratings draws for the 18-40 age group as far as % of audience.
