CI Wrestling Thread #56

Meltzer is now reporting Rhodes has been taken off internal plans for WrestleMania and is not a lock to make his WWE return.

"They don’t know what’s going on with Cody Rhodes," Meltzer said of WWE's mindset. "They’re not sure. We’ll have to wait and see how that plays out. It’s up in the air. They don’t know. They thought they had him and now, it’s not like it’s dead, it’s not like they think they don’t have him, but they’re not sure.

"Everyone in the world thinks that Cody runs Ring of Honor or something. I suppose there’s ways to do that angle and everything like that, but I guess we’re just going to have to wait and see how this all plays out.”

Odds are Rhodes eventually finds his way back to WWE. Going through the show of announcing his departure from AEW telegraphed the move; as much fun as it would be to be actually "worked" in this modern era, all signs point to his being unhappy with his AEW trajectory and wanting to leave the company.

This may simply be a case of Dusty's son finding out the grass isn't always greener.

Some blood is great. It has to be meaningful and can't be in every match (or a lot even).

If more than 2 matches last night had blood - they need to pump the breaks. Less is more.

Exactly this.

I will add superkicks and destroyers to the less is more list. My minor complaint with Revolution was damn near every match had superkicks and destroyers, which have become as common as arm drags.

So funny to hear SRS and Meltzer talk out of both sides of their mouths, trying to act like they know where Cody's going, but also hedging and backtracking to provide cover if they turn out to be wrong (i.e., happened to guess wrong, because let's face it, they don't seem to know jack sh!t).

I agree. Some guys and even the girls will do 5-8 per match. It takes away from the actual move as a finishing move when they do it 6 times and the opponent kicks out and then finally they don't. IMO

Ya the uncle Dave saying “plans changed”

Does anyone really use a superkick as their finisher anymore? Even the Young Bucks don't and that's what they are known for.

What an absolute waste it is to see Austin return at his age for...KO. The guy who looks like a fat little league coach gets Austin out? C’mon.

Austin had one of the most iconic endings with his last match vs Rock at Mania. Wish he would not ruin it.

Saw an ad today saying Hangman Page, Adam Cole and Britt Baker are going to be at Comic-Con. Of course it listed them as AWE wrestlers. So I guess there's some work to do for some name recognition.

So what is the obsession with blood?
They trying to be like ecw?
Obviously don’t care about being kid friendly and sticking with their base?
Kids aren't the target for AEW....................................................................................................

I mean KO and the WWE have been trying to revive "The Rattlesnake" for a couple of years now not only with his signature move but giving the 2 gun salute right before he does it. It's like he is a PG version of Stone Cold. Maybe they could call him Flacid Warm.

KO is 37 and a mid-card guy. Austin isn’t making that guy. KO has maxed out.

Truth is, Austin wouldn’t have worked with KO when Austin was on the main roster.

Austin facing Brock would’ve been the only existing veteran that I would supported him facing given the history. But KO is not worthy.

I'm going to Comic Con on Saturday. not to see them. Dr Cox, Gustavo Firing, and Mr Feeny are all gonna be there.

There's some comiccon type event happening in Richmond, VA and Britt Baker, Kris Statlander, Leva Bates, and Ruby Soho will be there all three days along with Gustavo Fring, Homelander and Becca Butcher, Spock, Blue Power Ranger, William Shatner, Jenna Coleman, and Evangeline Lilly to name a few. Aya Cash was going to be there too but canceled.

Not going to make it though with it being next weekend but would be kinda neat to go if it was some other time. Britt and Statlander seem pretty cool outside the ring, especially Statlander.

Most of the wrestlers I’ve met at cons were super cool. Sgt Slaughter was a douche but maybe he was having a bad day.

Jim Cornette is the king of cons. But I think he’s done with all of that now.

he will talk your ear off and never expect a dime from you. I bought some stuff the last couple of times I saw just because I felt bad about taking up so much of his time.

KO is a mid carder in the WWE because he’s a career heel who’s best work is as a heel and WWE gears it’s storylines to the “good guy beats bad guy in the end” and “say your prayers each your vitamins” wrestling fans.

KO on any other promotion in the world is a multiple time world champion.

Also would Austin vs Reigns not be the bigger match? I mean Reigns is better than Brock on multiple fronts.

Yeah, I’ve liked KO. But he looks like shit and has been fortunate to have the career he’s had. He’s not a top guy and not worthy of one of the greatest to ever do it. And what does that do for KO’s career anyway? He already won a world title five years ago.

Austin vs Brock has a story. The biggest regret ofAustin’s career. Would be cool. Roman vs Austin wouldn’t fit. The Rock would fit that role.

To be clear, I’m not in favor of Austin wrestling anyone because he had an amazing ending.

Hopefully this means they are pulling Rex Steiner up and rocket strapping his ass. I just hope he can handle it so soon. He’s shattered every ceiling they’ve given him but I don’t want them to ruin him if he’s not ready. He’s someone who can carry them into the next 20 years if done properly.

It's a crying shame that WWE changes names and denies family.

Rex with Uncle Poppa Pump as a heel manager? There's a 135% chance it would be fun.

What makes it even stranger is that the Steiner Bros are being rumored to be one of the remaining inductees into the HoF this year. If you are doing that, let him use the Steiner name. Maybe they will let him use Steiner on the main roster.

Looks like Sid going to be in hof too - with taker/Sid/Vader looks like they are inducting heavyweights this year

The super kick is the 2020s version of the 1990s DDT. Once a really cool signature move a decade or two prior, co opted to become as common as a wrist lock.

Point being, if i see the same move in every match on a card, why will I care about it in the main event? Every wrestler doesn’t need the same move set. It’s AEW’s biggest flaw. How many guys to they have who oversuse super kicks, do dives to the floor and use destroyers as non-finishers? It’s at least 3/4 of the roster.

You have just laid out Meltzer's (and most dirt sheet writer's) entire model.

No one talks to Meltzer in WWE which is why he just throws speculative BS constantly which is then treated as the gospel by a ton of other dirtsheets who simply regurgitate his stuff.

These rags have ONE if at all, source. Once that source is gone, that's a wrap for their inside scoops. But hey, you can't lose all of that insider info you pitch as why fans should listen to you so what happens? Make up BS.

Ryan Satin had one source--Jimmy Jacobs. When Jacobs was gone, Satin had nothing else. Sapp will be the same way.

Wouldn't it make sense that he be the guy to dethrone Reigns?

That’s the problem with WWE right now is you don’t have many main event caliber guys

Drew
AJ
Seth
Big E
KO

That’s about it so ya chances are no one is going to beat Brock and Roman except each other and 3 of the guys I listed haven’t been in the title picture for over a year now
