CI Wrestling Thread #56

Sounds like FInn Balor might be retiring or going back home to Ireland when his WWE contract is up

2 NBA games and a bunch of college basketball, but also the overall size of the TV audience looked to be down from the previous week. The 18-49 ratings, according to the below links, was 0.29 or greater for the top 15 last week, this week only 7 programs drew a 0.29. The farther you go down the chart, the results are largely the same. Across the board cable ratings were all down this week compared to last.

Meanwhile broadcast TV ratings were up nearly across the board.

Dynamite was ALSO up against the premieres of The Masked Singer and Survivor on the major networks, which is probably a primary reason why cable ratings were down across the board. But Dynamite was still the highest-rated show on cable for it's slot.

TK is going to have a huge payoff when that contract renews. If Warner doesn't lock them up with a contract extension, I could see a bidding war, and I could also see the networks who currently have deals with WWE either bidding for AEW or at least using AEW as a bargaining chip in their negotiations with WWE.

Dave meltzer and the dumbass insider journalists are pissing around again. Because regal said he didn’t have as much time left as he’d like made people think he was dying. So apparently they run with this story that on the next Talk is Jericho podcast, he’s going to reveal his health is declining and has only X amount of time left to live. Dave was really prepping people that Regal was going out on his shield at AEW…

Regal gets on social media and said none of that is true. He had a health scare in 2018, but is in the best shape of his life.

FTR (Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler) fired Hall of Famer Tully Blanchard as their manager on the latest episode of AEW Dynamite.

They are now teasing replacing Blanchard with another Hall of Famer, reaching out to Bret Hart on social media.

After Dynamite, where they fired Blanchard, Harwood tweeted out to Hart, asking what he was up to. Both Harwood and Cash have been open about their admiration for The Hitman.

Hart had previously worked with AEW, being part of the original Double or Nothing event in 2019. Hart appeared at the show to unveil the AEW World Championship. However, he hasn’t appeared for the company since.

CM Punk recently got emotional about Bret Hart in his post show Revolution interview, Bret Hart has many admirers within AEW and many of the wrestlers on the roster would love to see him in AEW, could TK be bringing him in, to manage FTR.

Cm punk seems like a bitter person -

CM Punk says that he is "relieved" that Tony Khan bought ROH and its video library, and that Vince McMahon did not.

Speaking at the post-Revolution press conference, Punk was frank that he did not want Vince McMahon to own the footage of his ROH career.

"I was relieved," Punk said. "Let's be honest. Either Tony was gonna but it, or Vince [McMahon] was gonna by it. And I don't want Vince to own my footage. He owns enough of it and I don't get paid off it."

Punk said that when he left WWE in 2014, a source of strife between him and the company was his asking questions about how he and others were going to be paid once WWE Network launched.

"I've watched my royalty checks, which I still get, dwindle to nothing, because they just put everything on the network. And the boys don't get paid. That's not just me, that's everybody. That's criminal," said Punk.

"I loved ROH so much, and I can't explain how happy that I am that my footage, it's in good hands," Punk said. "It's just good to know it's in the hands of somebody who will treat it well. I literally feel like my baby is in someone's hands who will raise the child the right way and do good things with it. And it won't get made into just some tab on a sh*tty, confusing app that's hard to navigate and the boys don't get paid anything off it."

As to his run with AEW, Punk said that he is glad to have a second chance in his wrestling career.

"I didn't get to do this for seven years. This didn't exist for seven years. Obviously, the truth is that i love professional wrestling very much," Punk said. "So to come back and to be able to, for six months, it's not just do whatever the f*ck you want, it's doing whatever the f*ck you want and being cocky enough to know that your way is, not the right way, there's never only one right way, but to have somebody who listens to you, and can take an idea and make it even better, and just to have an open dialogue."

Punk also said that he is grateful to have a chance to write the end to his career that Bret Hart never had the opportunity to.

"I love Bret Hart. Bret Hart's career got cut short. And it's a godd*mn tragedy. And there's people who go over to Saudi Arabia and get paid millions of dollars, and it should've been Bret," said Punk.

"And I'm just super grateful that I got a second chance. And I'd give it up in a heartbeat to give it to Bret."

"He's the greatest. And he was right. Bret Hart was right. Bret Hart is always right," Punk said.

Can’t blame him. A lot of artists feel that way about their prior stuff. See Taylor Swift redoing all her prior albums.

If he thinks Tony Khan will do right by him financially, I don’t blame him at all.

I don't think bitter would be the right word when describing this quote from CM Punk where he is expressing his love for ROH, for wrestling, and for Bret Hart. A little petty vindictiveness perhaps for the anti-WWE jabs, but not bitter.

The Punk stuff might read like bitterness but I watched the entire interview and he was just casually speaking, wasn’t any anger plus he was asked about it.

YOu need to upgrade the caliber of women you look at if you think that.
I mean it in the same way Tyty has some feminine features. He looks just like Snoop on The Wire.

But look at pics Dunne all the way up to 2021 when he got in real good shape. His face had alot of feminine features.

I’m not a CM Punk fan, but in this instance, he was absolutely right about the wwe stoping royalties when they shoved everything on the network.

Also, I think it's pretty safe to say Pete Dunne, I mean Butch, is going to be relegated to being a mid card jobber with no legitimately serious push at anything of any consequence as long as he has that name. Look at the title history for WWE/WWF, it's rare you see someone with a really stupid name get anything more than a one short run with a midcard title.

If a Time Warner suit is influential in AEW roster decisions, Khan has already sold out.

I would sign them and tell Time Warner to suck it and try to replicate my ratings

Artists are full of themselves. All of them think what they do is more important than it really is. It's not important. It's entertainment. It's fluff. Makes life better, but isn't essential.

I for one would not want to live a life devoid of entertainment.
