CI Wrestling Thread #56

Literally everyone assumed his big announcement was buying ROH.
lol I thought HBO Max deal was more likely though I assumed either buying ROH or the library was going to be part of the announcement. Must be holding that out for a later date or haven't finalized it yet.

Well he did acquire the whole entire company. Companies aren't cheap if you're buying up everything they own.

It was actually 4.2 million for WCW. 1.7 million for the video library, and then 2.5 for the name and brand. So they didn't buy the entire company like TK did with ROH in getting equipment and all that stuff.

A lot of people now think ‘oh, Cody (Rhodes) is gunna run ROH’ and I’ve been asked that by many people today, ‘oh it was all a swerve, cody’s gunna run ROH’

its like, its not. He got a better offer, or in his mind, a better offer.”

What does he mean he got a better offer? A better offer from WWE and why he left AEW? Or a better offer from TK and that’s why WWE fizzled?

Great match, but Sammy does not do it for me as TNT champ. He’s boring on the mic and has no personality as a baby face. Great in ring, but I can’t get behind him as a baby face

I'm fine with Sammy as a midcard TNT champion. Always brings it in-ring, don't need need everyone to be main event worthy.

Also was not expecting an Erik Rowan debut. Wonder if he is All-Elite or just on a short-term deal like Jay White and the other NJPW guys that have popped up?

HOuse of Black vs. Death Triangle + Redbeard on the preshow. Preshow is going to be a must watch with that and the Hook and Statlander matches.

I don’t care what Cody does to be honest. On one hand, if WWF signs him, it will be funny because they went and took one of AEW’s founding fathers and inevitably turn him back into the mid card talent that he actually is. On the other hand, I get to laugh at AEW because one of their best agreed to become a future Sami Zayn opponent in a dwindling major league opposed to being a star with the play wrestlers and 2 Indy legends that care more about their craft than the money (which I do respect).

So far I've heard/read significantly more people that were happy about Brandi leaving than were disappointed about Cody leaving. Man got over recruited lol.

I liked his in-ring abilities, but I won't miss him though. There's plenty of other wrestlers in the company that are just as good, better than him, or are young with more potential than him.

He's ego got too big and his refusal to become heel when he started to become largely unliked was pretty off putting to me. Reminded me of the type of stuff Vince McMahon does in forcing something on the fans that they didn't want all because that's what he wanted.

Has no one but himself to blame for no longer being AEW as far as I'm concerned. Hopefully he gets a good humbling in WWE and gets his head out of his ass.

I don’t think he is. I think Dave is in on with Cody and Tony trying to throw ppl off from what they’re really doing.

Someone is definitely being fed false info somewhere.
I'm not ragging on you. Promise.

Why can't you be objective about Cody? I understand - you like him, AEW, and hate WWE. But even when you're a huge fan, it's fair to hold them accountable or to point out flaws.

Dave isn't "in on it" with Cody and Tony. It would alienate his subscribers and ruin his business. He's not going to piss away $$$$ to participate in an angle.

These cryptic tweets are getting stupid. And honestly this is all because of “insiders” needing to get the info out for clicks and likes. Social media is killing wrestling.

Apparently Vince scaled back his offer to Cody sometime after it was announced he was leaving AEW.

I don’t even necessarily like Cody. I do in general but hate the way he’s done things the last year or more.

I’m just saying, what makes more sense… Cody going leaving the place he built, has power in and has gotten two tv shows from to go back to a place he hated and has shit on heavily for 5+ years.

OR

Cody and TK came up with this work from the start. They knew it’d grab all the headlines. The day it came out he was leaving, Austins return to Mania got bumped off the the front page and top story of all the websites. Dave is in good with the top guys at AEW. Why would he still be going with Cody to wwe when everyone else had started going with the story of Cody to wwe fizzling out? Maybe he was just going off of outdated info? But even if he was covering for Cody/TK it wouldn’t alienate his subscribers. Not like he’d ever come out and say he was covering for them so it’d never come out. Plus his subs at this point are loyal. You either love Dave or hate him. Him trying to help keep a cody return to AEW a surprise wouldn’t make anyone mad except the ones that already claim he’s on their payroll.

WWE got a premium live event tonight or something?
It’s just a house show but they are pushing it heavily and bringing Brock in who normally doesn’t do house shows. It’s kind of crazy to me that WWE is only drawing around 5,000 people for a show there. Considering how many people are in NYC I could imagine that many people just randomly wandering in because they thought the marquee looked funny

So WWE teased everyone from Steve Austin to The Undertaker to Cody showing up tonight and we got Austin Theory vs. Brock.
They were filming the main event to use on TV. Looks like Brock got busted open from the ring stairs.

Sounds like the Impact show was good and OVW had a scaffold match tonight.
