CI Wrestling Thread #56

Yep. He had a nice renaissance until AEW started opening the checkbook and he quickly rerouted back to midcard hell where his career has always been.

Time to bring back Dibiase Jr and feud with Orton and Riddle!
He’s in the AEW mid card on purpose. Cody isn’t a mid carder anymore.

Just kinda seems like the type that thinks he's another Rock or Cena when he's basically just another Miz or DOlph Ziggler type.

Spot on. He’s always overvalued himself.

Using the example above, he can’t work as good as Ziggler or talk as good as the Miz.

I don’t hate the guy, but he’s top star and never will be.

He's midcard with the talent WWE has always had, he's midcard in AEW with all the talent they've brought in within the last year. Now I can buy him as an occasional Dynamite or Rampage main eventer, that last match with Sammy G was outstanding, but, at minimum, Omega, Moxley, Punk, Danielson, Hangman, Cole, Lee, Black > Cody

I've always thought Miz was overrated on the mic. Cody's better.

I agree that Ziggler is a better worker, but let's not forget that Cody's last match in AEW was a 5-star banger with Sammy Guevara. (Side note: Ziggler would do so well in AEW, I'm surprised there hasn't been more speculation about him.)

Cody does overvalue himself, but he convinced Vince to overvalue him, too, so...winning?

I don't consider Lee, Cole, or Black to be better than Cody. He's better on the mic, has better psychology in the ring, and looks better than all of those guys.

He is a mid carder in AEW by design. If it weren't written into the story line, Cody would have already held the world title at this point.

Who are the main eventers in WWE? Lesnar, Reigns, Lashley, Orton, McIntyre, Owens, Rollins, Edge, and AJ Styles? I consider Cody better than 3 or 4 of those guys already.

We’ll see about Vince. I have a feeling he’ll be pushed heavily for about 60 days. He’ll get a couple title shots, lose, and will then be jobbing to Austin Theory or Damian Priest for the next 6 months. Vince is petty. He won’t forget 2017-2020 Cody.

The lisp ruins his promos for me. And don’t get me going on the neck tat.

Maybe Cody took all the viewers with him.

Dynamite was way down last night with only 869,000 viewers and a .31 in the demo ranking 3rd.

Even airing on SyFy Raw was the number one show on Monday and NXT was up as well.

Just as someone commented on a previous page, Cody might believe Vince can do more for him and Brandi when it comes to their Hollywood careers and life after wrestling.

Sports Illustrated is reporting that Cody Rhodes is set to return to WWE & he could start recording vignettes for his return at the Performance Center as soon as this weekend.

He left AEW due to losing all responsibilities involving booking & is expected to have a different relationship with Vince McMahon this time, and unlike last time, creative differences will be a non-factor.

Meanwhile, Brandi Rhodes is not expected to sign with WWE.

Starting their own business huh… should pick up Russo or Shane to book it and manage it lol.

"Creative differences will be a non-factor" lol. Vince does dumb shit time to time (or constantly) with basically every person on the roster. What makes Cody think he'll be the exception?? He get a clause in his contract that he can do whatever he wants with his character and his booking without needing Vince's approval?

AEW Revolution should be a loaded card. First three are already announced
  • Six-man ladder match - currently has Keith lee, Wardlow, Dante Martin/Powerhouse Hobbs winner, and three more to be determined
  • Punk vs. MJF Dog Collar
  • Three-way Tag Title Match - Jurassic Express vs. two TBD teams

All of the below should be in contention. Wonder which ones get pushed to Dynamite/Rampage since there's no way they can fit all on a PPV?
  • Hangman vs. Cole for the AEW title - i'm going to say this is a lock
  • Baker vs. Rosa for the women's title - and a lock too
  • Moxley vs. Danielson - next closest to being a lock but I could see them having this as a PPV-tier main event on Dynamite
  • Kingston vs. Jericho - probably going to be some kind of stipulation on this like an I Quit match or no DQ
  • Cargill vs. ?? for the TBS title
  • Sammy vs. Andrade vs. Darby for the TNT title
  • Jay White vs. ?? - - huge addition to the roster that just debuted, have to figure he'll be involved in the PPV in some capacity
  • House of Black vs. Death Triangle if Buddy debuts and Fenix is back in time
  • Could we also perhaps see the Young Bucks vs. ReDragon, either in the tag title match or just on their own??

Cody: I'm mad that I lost booking duties, I'm leaving!

Also Cody: I'm going to WWE, hello scooter races and spelling bees!

Don't know if Cody was told he would get to do booking for as long as he was at AEW or not, but talent booking themselves is not a healthy policy to have long term. Look at all the dumb shit that happens in WWE because the McMahon's are always booking themselves into shit.

And let's just take a look at what happened with him individually. While he was partially responsible for booking, he theoretically had at least some input into the angle that resulted in him losing to Jericho and disqualifying himself from ever challenging for the AEW title. Who the hell in their right mind books themselves into that?? Not surprising, it turns out the EVPs largely had their booking duties taken away less than two months after that.

And he led what might have been the most lame and inconsequential stable in the company in the Nightmare Family. It only ever had one other premier talent in MJF, and he left the Nightmare Family while Cody was still partially responsible for booking.

And more recently, look at his refusal to become a heel because he wanted to stay babyface. In the process, he might have been the most hated babyface in the entire wrestling industry. He got heat no matter where he went, which is the exact opposite of what you need to be getting as a babyface.

It’s ironic. Evps had their power stripped because they wouldn’t put themselves over enough. All they wanted to do early on was lose and build others. That’s got to be a new way to lose booking power.
