CI Wrestling Thread #56

Actually, using "Dixie Gulas" again and again as your personal nickname for Tony Khan is the dumbest thing a fan can say.]

Watching Raw on Syfy tonight and is it just me or does the ring look significantly smaller tonight?

Cornette rants about these two promoters being awful. He calls Tony Khan, Dixie Gulas, because he thinks Khan is like them. Marks for themselves and blowing money.

I think the Gulas Cornette refers to is George Gulas, Nick’s son, who was apparently an awful
performer that his promotion owner dad featured prominently and it helped lead to the demise of the Nashville territory.

I take it to mean Corny thinks TK is cosplaying promoter with daddy’s money like a combo of Dixie Carter and George Gulas.

So let me get this straight: We have people who post here who don't claim to be fans of any of the wrestling organizations today, but still claim to be fans of wrestling? Are you fans of some romanticized version of wrestling organizations past? Do you still watch episodes of shows from 20 or 30 years ago? Do you still mark out when Hogan Hulks up? Help me understand.

Could be been a while since I heard him talk about it but I thought it was because Nick booked his son to the top and ruined the booking for the entire promotion and closed down. Like Khan booking Orange Cassidy because he really likes the guy and Cornette can't stand Cassidy and thinks it is a major mistake.

Jerry Jarrett had the western end (Memphis) making tons of money while the middle end (Nashville/Birmingham) we’re pretty stagnant. This is when Nick told Jarrett to book George in Memphis, but Jarrett refused. This led to the split with Jarrett taking over the Memphis end and the rest is history.

Gulas still had a few decent years. Fans got to see Randy Savage battle guys like Bobby Eaton and Dutch Mantell. Imagine having a video of late 70s Eaton vs Savage. Dear god.

thats the dumbest thing a fan can say: oh you watch the WWE.

I don’t like either, lol. If I didn’t do it for my job, I wouldn’t have a clue as to half the people on their rosters were.

I still remember Dixie Gulas bragging how it’s going to be like “old school/Mid South,, blah”….but when I heard their roster, I knew it was a lie.
For someone who doesn't like it and says it's only a job you spend a lot of time in this thread commenting about it. Granted it's mostly to put it down and say how much you don't like it but still talking about it.

So...assuming this is not a work (which I don't think it is)...what happens to the Nightmare Factory? QT Marshall, Dustin, Ogogo, Velvet Sky...do they migrate as well?

It makes a lot of sense, given how Cody and Brandi have been getting massively unintended heat as faces in AEW.

At least Cody didn't put out some sad twitter message about how his contract would be up on 2/15 and providing his gmail for bookings.

Coming to claim his rightful midcard slot soon … Dashing Stardust Rhodes.

I’m not sad about this development at all. Especially because Brandi Rhodes has X-Pac heat with Sable talent.

I haven’t watched WWE in years, where would Cody fall in their pecking order?

Really have a hard time seeing him leaving AEW, unless he straight retires from wrestling or the backstage relationships are really that strained with him (which have been rumored).

It’s not just Cody. Cody has the nightmare factory, he trained Cardgill, Wardlow, Hook, agogo. Do they jump ship when they can because their trainer did. What happens to the nightmare factory now?

I think most people know this…but the vast majority of fans still have zero idea who he is.

that’s easy to do after the fact…but the fact still remains: no one know him outside of the dirt sheets
This isn't true. I don't watch new japan and I know who he is simply by scrolling through twitter and not being completely shut off from pro wrestling outside of what I see on tv. It requires little effort.

SRS said its not a work but he'd expect Cody ot retire in AEW later on.

As for where he'd fall in terms of the roster? He is a main eventer and would be one of their top 10 guys on the roster. What he did for his career after he left WWE is astounding.

I'm very excited to see Cody in WWE because he is one of the few guys you can't screw up at this point. He isn't a gimmick. He is what he is and they need to allow him to be that. A Seth vs Cody feud leading to a match at WM is what we need.
