CI Wrestling Thread #56

I’ve got a feeling he’ll end up being Rex Steiner again once he moves to Raw/Smackdown because nothing that happens on NXT matters.

on one hand Wrestle Kingdom should be awesome, but on the other New Japan making it 3 nights really ruined my excitement, and also ruined the G1 in the process.

but night 1 Shingo Takagi vs. Okada should be incredible.
Night 2 with the winner vs. Osperay should be as well.
New Japan has so many shows I can't keep up with it all. I just wait for the star ratings to come out and watch the ones that are rated high enough to tickle my fancy

Generally Wrestle Kingdom and G1 are the only shows that I actually want to watch, even though I never do because I'm not getting up at 3 AM to watch them.

Just like Royal Rumble and Mania are the only WWE shows I actually want to watch no matter what. But Mania is falling off and I didn't watch the Rumble last year because no fans sort of ruins it.

Hell with WWE's way of thinking, they make put a rocket on Rex Steiner and have him come feud with Roman. Disregard the fact that he only has about 4 matches under his belt and hasn't even got the NXT belt yet. No question at all that he has potential to be the future but with WWF brass, they'll find a way to f it up. Hell, they already changed his working name from Rex Steiner (Which was absolutely perfect and made sense) to Bron Breakker (WTF).
The wwe has made some horrendous name changes, but this is one of the worst

I just don't understand the logic of this name change at all. People know him from football as Bronson Rechsteiner but everyone also knows him as Rick Steiner's son. When you're a legacy talent, you definitely need to go by the name. When NXT Rainbow was about to start, they said he was going to be Rex Steiner. That was perfect. It was a play on Rechsteiner plus gave him the Steiner name. Those idiots then at the last minute, screwed that up and gave him some mid 90's WWF cartoon gimmick name. How anyone thought Bron Breakker was good baffles me. I know it's a small thing to bitch about but this is ridiculous. It's almost like it was done as a rib.

I have no doubt that WWF (e) has the backing and potential to be the best product, especially with wrestling as a whole being down, but they're so far out of touch that it's a joke. I HATE AEW and will always stick with WWE if given the choice but they halfway do things right aside from giving jobs and/or tv time to a bunch of undeserving hacks. They just lack the know how at the top other than the select few that they go with being able to get themselves over.

WWE changing names is really dumb sometimes. I understand that they want to own the copyright on the name, but playing up their real lives makes it dumb. Roman Reigns played football at Georgia Tech, but you'll never find his name on a roster.

When they signed KENTA and Prince Devitt, they announced that they signed KENTA and Prince Devitt. Then they debuted as Hideo Itami and Finn Balor

If they signed Okada and Kenny Omega they'd debut under a kung fu gimmick and be named Chop Suey and Bobby Alpha

If only you remember what tna did with Okada

Huh… Okada’s debut match in 2010 was against the Young Bucks, known as Generation Me back then.

I have said this before but Japanese wrestlers are probably not going to get over in America regardless of how good they are.
So since the 1990s the following promotions have had cross brand relationships with njpw…
Wcw
Tna
Roh
Aew
but you are right - great Muta and Jushin liger also say hello

Nakamura was over big time in NXT and would’ve been over big time on the main roster if Vince didn’t screw around with it. When Nakumara debuted at the raw after mania (or the smackdown, I can’t recall), that crowd sang his theme song so loud.

The loyalists to NXT are so much different from the average fan. Nakamura is awesome. Okada is awesome. But the odds of a guy getting over at a high level here in the states is very slim if English isn’t their first language. It’s unfortunate but it’s the world we live in.

NIck Jackson has the 'Rona.

Tony Khan said in an interview today his "North American dream signing" will be debuting soon. Speculation on that one?

AEW Dynamite Premiere on TBS Preview for tonight.

AEW Champion Hangman Page vs. Bryan Danielson - Three Judges at Ringside in the event of a draw.
*AEW Tag Team Champions The Lucha Brothers vs. Jurassic Express.
*Jade Cargill vs. Ruby Soho to crown the first-ever TBS Champion.
*Malakai Black vs. Brian Pillman Jr.
*MJF in action

I hope it's fake but read Max Caster was one of the judges, was hoping for someone with a little wrestling history.

Brody King? Lol

I heard a cool idea of having the 3 judges be the 3 former AEW champs but with 2 of the 3 being out that’s a no go. They won’t factor in anyway.

On the Japanese wrestlers deal… Vince has a lot to do with most Americans not caring or respecting Japanese wrestlers. He’s always used them as jobbers or comedy guys with the exception of a couple. Hell I even bought into that idea until I got tired of wwe and started looking elsewhere. My mind was blown when I watched njpw and saw how good they actually are.

But Japanese wrestlers can get over as much as anyone with the AEW crowd. It’s mainly that wwe section that will ignore it.

I was going to bring up Yokozuna until I remembered he was actually American. And when he and Bret Hart wrestled at Mania the crowd started chanting USA and Bobby Heenan laughed at them because (per kayfabe) a Japanese guy wrestling a Canadian.
