CI Wrestling Thread #56

First one I came up with that I was confident hadn’t happened yet was Hangman vs. Ospreay. They have wrestled against each other in some tag matches with New Japan but never in singles.

Another contender would be Swerve vs. Omega

And Kaito Kiyomiya (arguably the best under 30 men’s wrestler in Japan, an incredible talent in Pro Wrestling NOAH) vs. Omega is another contender.

With so many AEW and WWE wrestlers having done work in Japan and ROH/PWG, it makes this a bit difficult coming up with some ideas.

For the women I’d go with Sareee vs. Mercedes Mone

Good and bad news here for WWE.

The bad news - the ringboys lawsuit against them is back on the table

The good news - WWE was considering joining the lawsuit to get the law overturned, which would have been a horrendous look

Charlotte Flair was hard to watch last night.
  • Her fan interaction as she walked to the ring was pitiful, random emotionless fist bumps with kids;
  • That atrocious yellow outfit with such broad shoulders that she had to bend her elbow rather than her shoulder to point up at the wrestlemania sign;
  • Her obvious surprise at the negative fan reaction when she was trying to cut a babyface promo about how hard she worked to get back;
  • The obvious amount of plastic surgery she has had, which apparently has made her face so tight as to be expressionless; and
  • Nobody was buying that she was coming back because she loves the fans, as she tried to assert early in her promo, that just made the fans boo louder.
We know Charlotte is talented in the ring, but currently she is a charisma black hole. And it's near impossible to come up with any opponent who won't be cheered over her. They have to turn her heel.

She’s a bitch. That’s why fans don’t like her. So yea just make her a bitch fans can boo because they’re goin to anyway.

And every time she comes back, she is immediately hotshotted to the title match. She's an amazing wrestler but it is like when they were forcing Cena and then Roman down the fans' throats.

And despite all that cosmetic surgery, her ass is still flat as a pancake.

Ya I heard the charlotte reaction wasn’t good but that’s what I expected when you disappeared and win the rumble and why I’m glad cena didn’t win it.

Also people said Logan Paul was getting go away heat on raw.

I agree with you. I am not a huge fan of the Rumble matches as it is a lot of nothing for an hour. Guys and gals lay around as much as they are involved in the action. Anyway I skipped to the end just to see who won and when I saw it was Charlotte my first thought was why do you catapult her straight to the Wreslemania match over people who have been holding down the fort for the last year and a half?

Or in Penta's case you get eliminated but they don't acknowledge it or ever show a replay then do what you all mentioned above.

Anyway the 1/27 episode of Raw did 2,900,000 viewers, only down 100,000 from the week before.

Charlotte wasn't presented as a sympathetic hero upon her return from a significant injury but rather an elitist enjoying her wealth and the ruler of an entire division. She did very little in the Rumble and was gifted another title match. Boy, let me get in line to cheer that person on. Neither Charlotte nor Stratton are great on the mic so if that's the match, the buildup might be brutal. I can't listen to two months of "I'm the Queen!" and "It's Tiffy Time!"

Last night is why the Jey decision was the correct one. Fans have been bought in and actual emotion was shown. You only get a handful of moments like that every decade or so. Normally when we see wrestlers crying it's because of a death in the business or a forced retirement.

Or you get to watch people struggle in the corner for minutes on end to either throw someone over the rope or try to throw someone over the rope.

I think they know Tiffany isn’t great on the mic - she usually gets limited time and gets quickly interrupted. HHH tries to limit peoples weakness the best way he can.

People can debate the worthy part but like they said on busted open, the reaction to Jey is possibly bigger than Daniel Bryan’s yes movement.

People forget how good Jey was within the Bloodline, from everything with Sami to him and Jimmy turning on Reigns in Lex. Something clicked between him and the fans in France though and it grew from there. Thing I noticed last night was his ability to control the crowd. He's able to silence the YEETing with a wave of his hand when he wants to be serious. Still, can champion Jey Uso have compelling rivalries? I hope so because I don't want to see him tagging with his brother again in two years facing Pretty Deadly. Both guys need to be past that now.

On Ricochet, AEW gave him a personality. He's better there than in WWE and even if people mock his cheeseball character, at least they're talking about him. Dude was having time limit matches on twitter for a belt he couldn't show on cable.

World Championships won by Ric Flair: 16
World Championships won by Charlotte: 14

Divorces of Ric Flair: 4
Divorces of Charlotte: 3

Charlotte needs 3 championships and 2 divorces to break all records of Ric Flair in wrestling.
A couple more plastic surgery's and she will look like the 80's version of Ric.

I had never seen her before (took a 30 year hiatus from watching wrestling). But yeah, those were my assessments of her too.

I think he only wins (over Gunther) if a heel beats Cody (so probably not Orton or Punk (who I can't stand) or Cena). I think WWE likes having 1 of each holding their top 2 belts.

WWE is pretty face heavy right now. For Cody, it depends on who's in the Chamber. That's Cena and Punk for sure and likely Rollins, Reigns, Drew, and Logan Paul. Personally, I think Cena wins and loses to Cody but night two seems pretty unpredictable at the moment.

I think those top two listed matches should be really fun.
I am very much looking forward to this show tonight, unlike last week. I know it’s an impossible standard to have a one of the best Dynamites ever every week, but the Dynamites they’ve been having this far in 2025 have largely been pretty mediocre. They really need to step it up on a more consistent basis. Hopefully this is a step in the right direction.

Interesting you just said the collisions were good this year - why can’t AEW put together a string of 3-4 good shows in a row?

That dynamite felt like a show from a couple years ago sago when they had a million wheels spinning and most of them were really good. There was a ton of chaotic energy which I loved. I ish they’d have cut one segment and gave swerve and ricochet more time, but other than that, really strong dynamite IMHO.

Well that Dynamite episode certainly delivered. Mark Davis was not a big enough name to warrant being a mystery wrestler but I can see in kayfabe why they would have wanted to keep it a mystery. Still a bit disappointing regardless. That was a hell if a match though, which was not the least bit surprising.

Every segment worked for me tonight.

It’s been a subtle changed over the last couple weeks or so, but the Learning Tree seems to have finally pivoted a bit from it being all about Jericho all the time to pushing Big Bill and hopefully now Bryan Keith since he’s got a really nice opportunity vs. Bandido this Saturday. Now that is the type of Learning Tree stuff I can get behind. The first one I got is

TK has done more in less than six months to make Ricochet feel interesting and important than the serial rapist and Triple H could manage to do in 7 years.

Eh it got 13:25 of official time + however much happened before the bell rang so I felt that was sufficient. Though I suppose you could have shaved off a bit from the opening brawl or the MJF segment as nothing really felt like it went too long to me.

But also got to leave some stuff on the table to have people wanting more since there will be another match down the line, presumably at Revolution next month. And since TK likes booking feuds to a three-match series, I wouldn’t be surprised if there is a third match before this is over.
