CI Wrestling Thread #56

I really thought it was going to be Wyatt at the end but oh well. Still don't understand why the title match wasn't the main event.

Brody King reportedly signed with AEW almost immediately after ROH announced that they were going on hiatus until April 2022 at the end of October, according to Cassidy Haynes of Bodyslam. King was then told over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend that the signing was a done deal.

As seen in the tweet below, this week’s Winter Is Coming edition of AEW Dynamite featured a new Malakai Black vignette to tease the debut of a new House of Black member. It’s believed that King will be the new member.

I know nothing about Brody except he looks like a bigger Malakai Black, so I’m stoked for that. Heavy metal! Now kill the HFO, put butcher, blade, and Bunny with house of black and quit. Never move them again. Those three have been moved around more than a military family.

I’m wondering now if we get a triple threat w/Omega at Revolution in March. That’s a long way off though

It's Thursday and you know what that means.

Dynamite did 948,000 viewers and a .31 in the 18-49.

Total viewers up 9% from last week, the demo was down 7%.

Will be interesting to see if people tuned out after the first hour once the quarter hour comes in.

Full disclosure: I got so inebriated last night that I don't remember what happened on Dynamite. I had to go read a recap this morning. So it's funny (but also a little scary) to come on here and see that I posted 3-4 times during the Danielson/Page match. And they were (mostly) cogent.

Time to take a break from the brown water for a while.

So the last 30 minutes of the title match did over 1 million, then folks tuned out and came back for the main event.

Interesting take - kinda wish AJ was in aew he’s just kinda treading water with omos right now

When asked by Mark Madden on his Wooooo Nation UNCENSORED podcast about Danielson's work, Flair replied, "It's okay."

Madden said Flair was going to upset people with that opinion, leading Flair to say, "I didn't say he wasn't a good worker. When Hunter put him over at [WrestleMania 30], that made him. He's a very talented kid, don't misunderstand me, but you have to have one match, one place, one day, somewhere that makes you who you are. Hunter, who only wrestles once in a while, came out and the match started off slow but they ended up having a world-class match. He's a hell of a performer, I don't see him as being Kenny Omega. As a babyface, he's not Ricky Steamboat. As a heel, he's not me. If that pisses people off, they have to live with history."

Flair circled back to WrestleMania 30 -- Flair couldn't remember the event or the location where Triple H vs. Danielson took place during the conversation -- to discuss how Hunter "made" Danielson on that night, which also featured Danielson defeating Randy Orton & Batista in a triple threat match to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, and his ability as a worker compared to AJ Styles.

"They tore the joint down. That is the night that made Bryan. I like him a lot personally. He's got a style...he's not AJ Styles by any means. He's a little bit smaller than AJ. He's not AJ Styles. I like his conditioning, he works hard, he'll do anything and sacrifice his body at all odds. He'll throw himself around and take incredible bumps. He's a hell of a hand. You're asking me who is good and who is great. He's very good," he said. "As a babyface, it's more believable. He can sell his ass off so when he's making a comeback, it's more fun to watch him make a comeback against bigger guys. It's harder for me to believe he's going to hold someone down. As a babyface, who is just average size but loaded with talent, I much prefer to see him fighting from underneath."

Flair said he believes he and Danielson could have a great match as long as Danielson was the babyface because he would take his offense and make it look good.

Danielson is set to challenge Hangman Page for the AEW World Title at AEW Winter is Coming. Fightful will have live coverage of the event beginning at 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday.

Was just watching that aewbotches on Twitter and man alive, they are awful. I know every company has botch spots but I’ve never seen anything like aew. It’s truly outlaw play wrestling but with a budget. The bucks, oliviet, and the dinosaur man are truly terrible workers. I’ve never seen such untrained, untalented garbage in the ring more than those guys. They’re going to get someone hurt..or worse.
Hard to have botches in WWE when 75% of the time on shows is spent on something other than wrestling.

I’m sure there are plenty but Bucky beaver sitting there in the production truck with the 84736 camera angles cutting them out. I wish they’d quit effing with wrestling and trying to make it a spectacle each week. Just let it be a good solid show and incorporate segments to further storyline(S) instead of just spending 1/5 of the show focusing on the main one. Every feud needs a story to make the ppv’s not be such shit. See I can hate on wwf as well.

The constant camera zooming in and out almost makes me have a seizure.

I mean it's simple. They wrestled to a draw, so they can sell the next match at the PPV as the one to break the tie, probably make it a no time limit match.
I think the next match should be an iron man match and they tie again at the PPV....in between you let Page defend the title multiple times and then 6 months from now they have the third match and you can let Page properly drop the belt to Danielson then.

They’re good athletes but more or less spot monkeys. Super kick super kick super kick, gay leaning pose flexing those 170 lb biceps. Jump off the rope. There is your bucks match.
Omega isn’t properly trained, doesn’t know that everything is supposed to be done left side, he points around, acts more herky jerky than anyone I’ve ever seen (and I’ve even watched shinsuke). I’m not entertained or impressed by any of the three.
Dumbest post I’ve ever read.

Hook overtook cm punk for the #1 spot on pro wrestling tees
It’s crazy what AEW has done with Hook. He maybe their most impressive job as far as marketing and bringing someone along. They managed to take a kid who had never wrestled, spoke or done anything other than stand and look tough and got him to the point where he outsells CM Punk in merch after one match. And it’s just a plain white shirt with the word HOOK on it. 😂
Just being honest....I don't understand the AEW fans booing Cody.
It’s mainly due to the fans being tired of this version of him. They want him to turn heel and his stubborness not wanting to turn just makes them boo him more.

Lately I’ve actually thought he might be going somewhere unexpected with this but time will tell. The issue is he took himself out of the title picture to try and please a sections of idiots (which didn’t even work). So he can’t challenge for the AEW title, and he won’t change his character. He’s put himself in a spot where it’s hard to care about what he does because it’s kinda meaningless. Hence his last handful of feuds until Black and Andrade. They just felt like filler. A wrestler has to have something to strive for (AEW title), take that away and it just feels like your treading water.

I want him back as he was in 2017-18. Heel Cody with Bullet Club was must see everytime and he was one of the top 5 guys in the world. I’m long over the blonde hair babyface Cody. Go back to natural brown, rejoin The Elite and heel shit up. He’d go back to being one of the most over guys in the world overnight if he did.
