CI Wrestling Thread #56

I never saw anything in Ruby. Not in NXT, not on main roster. I remember her feud with Nikki Cross - and Cross was much, much better.

I've seen clips and reports, will try to watch this weekend, but...

Why is Brandi on TV? WHY? FFS WHY?
Cause she's hot? Also notice how she came outta the heel tunnel?

I’d love to meet Tessa out of that M&G but not at $300.

Can’t wait for Meltzers ratings on the matches from Grand Slam. So many wwe fans are gonna be mad. 😂 They always complained that Dave never gave Bryan a 5 star match in wwe and he’s likely gonna get one his first match in AEW.

I was hoping Dave gave Bryan’s first match a 5 star no matter who he faced but Omega pretty much sealed it. Though I will say I believe they held back in that match. It was great but I’m pretty sure BD can do better and I know Omega can. I just have a feeling they saved a lot of stuff for the eventual rematch.

Maybe if Bubba Ray Dudley was with Velvet Sky but no way I'm paying 300 for that as much as I like the Iiconics.

Quarter Hours from Wednesday night.

Show peaked for Danielson/Omega then dropped off after that, though people stayed through the second hour.

Anyone watch the Dark Side of the Ring episode last night on Kanyon? I thought it was very nicely done. Cena and Flair (again) came out of it looking bad after they buried Kanyon (with Kanyon in the studio, who you could tell was quite hurt by both their called-in statements that he was fired because he was not good any more, and not because he was gay as he claimed) on Howard Stern.

The video is only 2:00 minutes. It’s satire and basically mocking wwe. He said AEW is in trouble because they’re putting on too many good shows. That theyll eventually just become a company who sells out arena, puts on great shows and sells a ton of ppvs but that history has shown that’s clearly not how to build a promotion in America. 😂

Though it’s a joke, I do think a decent point is made. If AEW keeps doing great shows all the time then the fans will come to automatically expect it and when a show is only average or good they’ll feel let down. It’s partly why wwe fans are so easy to please these days. They’ve been fed garbage 85% of the shows for a decade so it doesn’t take much to get them excited.

On a different note, Marty Scurll is booked for a Halloween themed show in Puerto Rico towards the end of October. It’s his first appearance since resigning from ROH. Hoping it goes well and he keeps getting more dates until him working is just normal again. I really want AEW to get him and put him back with The Elite.

Dave said AEW has passed on numerous people the last few months and it looks like Buddy Matthews (Buddy Murphy) was one of those. I’d love him in AEW and think he would have been signed for sure a year ago but timing just isn’t right with the current roster. Any signings now will be very selective imo. Plus even if Matthews signs with NJPW or Impact there’s still plenty of chances to end up working with AEW.

Which brings up the last bit of news, it’s being reported that Bray Wyatt maybe making his debut at Dynamite next week in Rochester, NY. That was Brodie Lee’s hometown. I don’t know if it would be a one off deal like Rowan’s was during the Brodie tribute episode or if he is a signed talent. People thought previously that he and Braun were Impact bound.

Lol as expect wwe fans are mad. They say Dave is an idiot and his ratings don’t matter but always go looking for his ratings.

Jim has made several odd comments the last few weeks. He sick?

Watched Bryan-Omega the other day. Didn't think it was as good as Punk-Bryan from Over the Limit 2012, and that's just 1 from the top of my head. Still a great match though.

I figured that would happen. Does anyone honestly think that match was better than every single one of Bryan’s WWE matches?

It was good, but come on.
Meltzer's rating formula: After initial match rating, subtract half a star for WWE matches, add half a star for AEW matches, add a full star for NJPW matches.

Since we are talking about meltzer math omega/db wasn’t even the highest rated match of the week - he gave a g1 match 5.5 stars

WHY wouldn't P&P, the team that was about to wrestle the next match, and fellow members of the Inner Circle, NOT come out and make the save for Jericho and Hager when they were being beat down by Lambert and America's Top Team??? They haven't broken IC up, so...WHY?

Someone 'splain that to me.

Up next is Jay/Ford. This is easily for eye pleasure boys. I think no matter who wins, we all win!

I do get a kick out of Meltzer's ratings, but he's like TV Teddy at this point. Go to AEW and collect 5 star ratings like Pokémon just because you're not in the establishment's system any longer.

So if you’re talking the next crop of big stars for wwe - the Steiner kid will definitely get a big push at some point but Montez Ford looks like he might be another one that will eventually be a main event player
