CI Wrestling Thread #56

I just saw that and yeah hope he's doing ok.

Well the Rampage numbers are in and again kind of disappointing.

Hour one did 727,000 viewers and a .28 in the 18-49

Hour two did 552,000 viewers and a .25 in the 18-49

Overall 639,500 for the two hours.

I see where one of his videos received 330K views last week. So that doesn't appear to be true.
Doesn't that prove his point? That people are flocking to hear him come around on AEW and get his opinion on Grand Slam? That he's only "big" now because of his past hard stance on AEW?

I understand what Cal's Stroops is saying, without the "wrestling war" that developed when AEW opened its doors, and Cornette's vocal dislike for AEW's product (until recently), Cornette would not be getting the views he's getting now.

The Twitter trolls, which I know doesn't get over so well with some here, eat that shit up! They get so pissed with what Corny has to say. His "controversial" takes on the hottest product right now gets him all the clicks and views. People go to see what he has to say so they can go to twitter and bash on him. Little do these idiots know, they're just building his revenue!

He still has a white-hot hatred for Omega. I think on the show you are listening to, Cornette says that Danielson "carried" Omega a bit in the match. Brian Last responded, "Jim, Kenny Omega could cure cancer and you would give credit to the patient.”
I know. I was expecting something more like Last saying "well I thought it was a pretty good match" and then Cornette laughing and going "Well back in 1974 Big Scooter McGee and Joey Anderson had the same type of feud and it caused the people in Louisville Gardens to literally start stabbing each other because it went to a draw!"

Isn’t that what Howard Stern used to say - his adversaries listened to his show more than his fans

I don’t see the big deal or why the numbers are disappointing? It’s getting better and maybe that takes some time before the numbers take off.

I wish I could watch every week but it doesn’t happen. Doesn’t mean I don’t read the results or follow you all and find out what happened and then go back to YouTube and watch it later.

On another note Corny is what he is, and if he had a brain that could turn numbers he’d have a job running a show. Maybe he plays like he doesn’t want that, but you aren’t doing anything wrestling and not wanting something from it.

I'll take some heat for this, but Cornette is only relevant these days because of AEW.
Eh, don't know about that. He's had his podcasts and online store for several years, plus he always made appearances. Maybe his numbers got a bit better when he started talking modern wrestling, but he was doing that before AEW existed. His shows aren't only about AEW.

I've met Cornette a bunch of times at Comic Cons. The man loves to talk about wrestling and is glad to do so. I haven't seen him since AEW began (mainly because everything got cancelled) but when I've talked to him about things like Kenny Omega, Joey Ryan, the Bucks, and a few others he was much more subdued than on his podcast and twitter. That being said the man does genuinely hate them. He also has told me that Meltzer is the best in the business as far as history and inside info, but his opinions on modern day wrestling are garbage. Again that was pre AEW.

and I'm not pretending to know the man. He wouldn't know me from any other random fatty at a comic con.

All I'm saying is that the heat he brings in on himself from the AEW fans on twitter has gotten him bigger numbers and it makes sense to me. Bad or good, idc... I've noticed his name thrown around on twitter way more than preAEW

Those views came from a Hulk Hogan video, not a AEW video.

It is as dumb as those concussion lawsuits. Yes concussions are a huge problem and I'm glad WWE adapted, but look at the list of people that sued WWE over it.

Axl Rotten was part of the lawsuit. He was in WWE for about a week. Sabu, Perry Saturn, Shane Douglas, and Balls Mahoney all sued. Really think their head injuries were all WWEs fault? Tracy Smothers? Road Warrior Animal? Chavo sr and jr? Mike ENos?
Not super related, but the concussion lawsuits is such horse shit when it came to football.

Why? Because those dudes played football for at least 12 years before even getting to the NFL so how is one organization responsible for the hits you took before?

Just a cash grab, imo.

When I was in 8th grade we used to head butt each other on the sideline during games. We just figured since we had helmets on it it wouldn’t matter

I told my aunt that and she said ‘that explains so much’

I said ‘you dirty dog!’

Riddle doesn’t do it for me, but I love good wrestling.

I finally figured out what killed it for me with WWE. Styles vs Nakamura WM. I bring it up because I bet Riddle and Styles would be fire, but I just can’t trust WWE to make fire from a no brainer.

Styles and basically anyone can be fire. There are very few guys that you can go through history and almost guarantee that whoever they are in the ring with, it will be entertaining, but AJ is one of them.

5 currently planned matches for Crown Jewel, according to WWFOldSchool:

* Roman Reigns vs Brock Lesnar (Universal Championship)

* Bobby Lashley vs Goldberg

* Edge vs Seth Rollins

* Final of the King of the Ring 2021

* Final of the inaugural Queen of the Ring 2021

Surprised wrestlers still do that Crown Jewel gig. I'm sure they make boatloads of money, but they got to take a lot of sh!t from the fans for doing it. Just feels like anyone who works that is a couple years away from being cancelled for it.

That was a bit of a surprise. The big question now is what do they do with Miro. I've really enjoyed this run of his. The whole MJF vs Darby feud has a chance to be brilliance.
I mean Miro is so over and his title run shouldn’t have been cut. He could’ve gone another year and it would have been perfect. Darby/MJF will be fun. Let each guy do their best thing. Let MJF cut the promos and let Darby be crazy. It’ll be good shit.

After Hangman, Punk, Danielson, or whoever beats Kenny has their 3-4 month run with the belt, I’d have Miro go over for the world title.
