CI Wrestling Thread #56

Dynamite did 975,000 viewers last night and a .35 in the 18-49 putting it 4th for the night.
It did a .50 in males 18-49 #1 on the night by a wide margin.
I’ll give them credit: they’ve literally not grown their audience and kept the same ones for almost 2 years

I’d watch whatever show CM Punk showed up on. I haven’t made it a point to watch wrestling since Sting came to WWE.

I’m getting into my own head thinking he won’t show up, but that would be career suicide right? I mean there would be NO WAY to come back from this if Punk does not show up.

FYI for those that watch on Channel 56 Smackdown is being preempted tonight for Bengals vs. Washington football.
It’s scheduled to air at midnight.

Same goes for those of us in the WDRB market. Smackdown preempted, will air at midnight.

Go buy a Roku. Never worry about being preempted for local programming again or missing the beginning to a UK game.

This works out for me. I’m a masochist aka a Bengals fan, so I’ll watch the Bengals game and AEW Rampage tonight. Will catch SD on DVR over the weekend.

Punk is the WWEs last FULL TIME needle pusher. I’m not saying he’s bigger then the rock or Cena, Bryan a close second. Look Reigns is entitled to his opinion, but I’m going to be honest… I’m sorry, but he only got over after he shared with the world he was battling cancer. Don’t get pissed about it, but everyone hated him before that. Now only 40% hate him and the other 60% feel bad if they hate on a guy who beat cancer.

When Darby first dropped the tease I thought AEW would pull a swerve. But I agree, after all the hype anything less than Punk and the fans will be pissed. Especially after Kahn’s tweet.

One of the matches being rumored for the upcoming All Out PPV in September involves the ongoing ‘Forbidden Door’ storyline. Jox Moxley was slated to be taking on IWGP United States Champion and Japanese wrestling legend Hiroshi Tanahashi.

Moxley reportedly suggested the match to AEW owner Tony Khan a few months ago, and Khan was very receptive to bringing in Tanahashi for the contest and what will be their biggest pay-per-view to date.

It has now been confirmed that Tanahashi will be facing Kota Ibushi as part of the Wrestle Grand Slam event in MetLife Dome, Japan.

This puts the proposed match between Moxley and Tanahashi, the night after in Chicago, Illinois, up in the air.

With the current COVID restrictions, it may not be possible for Tanahashi to get out of Japan and over to the United States in time for the event. Let alone the strict quarantining rules he may have to adhere to.

Jon Moxley would cut a promo on this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite, where he slammed ‘newcomers’ to the company. Moxley would talk about how he was one of the original stars who helped build the company during turbulent times, whereas others now only come into the company because there are fans back and it is successful.

This promo may have been a backup plan for the company if the proposed Forbidden Door match isn’t possible, with a plethora of new talent making their way to AEW over the past couple of months.

Yes, as people here have intimated, the Moxley match on Rampage tonight seems quickly put together to get him on the card and, we assume, to set up a confrontation during Rampage with a new dance partner?

Wasn’t tiger supposed to be built up as some superstar then disappeared as quick as he rose - I kinda remember him

Now a lot of clamoring that there will be more then just punk tonight? Mark Henry said it’s something no one saw coming. TK saying people will be shocked and wrestling will change forever tonight. Everyone knows punk is coming, he’s alluded to that, but says there is more. I shouldn’t have had this energy drink. I’m too excited for wrestling.

AJ Lee coming with Punk would be a big shock. I don't know that "wrestling changes forever" with that though. Brock would be a massive shock and a huge change in the wrestling world. Is Strowman's noncompete up? Is Bryan's?

Could it be something more to do with MMA and a partnership with them in some way since they had MMA guys there cutting a promo on Wed? Something like that would change wrestling forever I think.
