CI Wrestling Thread #56

Letting wrestlers go in waves while they reap record profits. WWE is no longer trying to please fans. They are solely focused on pleasing their shareholders. And if you are employed by WWE, you have to be wondering if you are in the crosshairs. No one is safe.

Mark my words, these short-term efforts to increase shareholder value will backfire long-term for whoever purchases WWE. Basically the company is ditching their R&D. They are selling their future for a couple of bucks now. When those TV contracts expire...

No doubt - it almost looks like sabotage - what’s going on is bizarre

Story going around this morning as WWE offered Cole a 1,000,000 contract to stay.
Currently he’s making around 100,000 a year.
Hard to pass up that much money if it’s true.

Rumors going around to expect more cuts from NXT today. I just don’t think Cole should stay in WWE. More then the obvious reasons, biggest is I don’t think Cole will get over with a super casual main roster crowd. But we’ll see.

...until they decide months or years down the road that he's not worth $1M a year and release him.
This is my thought. I find it EXTREMELY doubtful that Vince offered Cole 1mil after cutting Bray and Strowman who were “too expensive” and fit more of Vince’s mold then Cole does. I just don’t see it.

Bronson Reed did nothing for me.

Bobby Fish? Love him. Thought he worked as a trainer also. He has been on the DL a bunch.

Cole? HHH likes him. If they can convince VKM that he's another HBK....

The million dollar deal with Cole rumor is made up. There’s a couple people that put out fake stories and then say it came from the observer. People don’t fact check and it takes off. It happened today with Cole and last week when people started spreading that Alexa had asked for her release due to the Wyatt firing.

Cole would be in the mix for the AEW title within his first year. He’s a much bigger name with with more value to the AEW fans and AEW management. Wwe showed what they thought of him never calling him up in 4 years plus not even knowing when his contract ended.

Two of the releases last night (Ari sterling and Leon Ruff) were on 205 life after they’d already been fired. Ari was in the title match with Kushida. Ari posted a video of himself watch his entrance and promoted his indie name over the wwe name.

After looking at that overall list of releases two things come to mind. 1. That’s a shit ton of releases. 2. Despite a few name guys and gals, all of those are doable releases. Bray and Braun stand out as big names but you can do away with those if it means losing the contracts. I’ve always said that the WWF had too many people.

I thought Cole getting a 900,000 raise might be a little much. Think we'll see a lot of fake stories.

Of course had WWE not gone and signed every available wrestler to huge long term deals when AEW started then they may not be in the situation.

There's a whole thread attributed to Uncle Dave on Twitter that doesn't paint a very good picture for NXT.

@UKWildcatT All your artwork is awesome but the one you did with HHH wearing the polka dots made me do a spit take.

Going to check out the Cornette show tonight when I can listen to the whole thing.

Been trying to watch some of my favorite Midnight Express matches but of course finding anything on the (Pea)Cock is dang near impossible. Ended up on youtube.

Peacock only benefits WWE. It’s a shit show to use for fans. The network was so simple to use and streamlined. You could literally find anything you wanted. Now it’s a nightmare just finding wwe content on the peacock network.

Just listened to it for the second time. My favorite part was when he was talking about Dundee telling his daughter that she couldn't date any of the wrestlers and then getting over it once he found out it was him.

Looks like Murphy will be going to AEW as well and possibly create yet another faction with Black called, “The House of Black”. He is now in a video series much like Black made… in fact, it’s the continuation of that story. I’m totally digging it.

That’s one of the all time classics, lol. Shows a lot about Bobby

first time I ever met Bobby, a friend and myself were bored and went on the USWA loop in 95. Went to the TV show on Saturday morning and then Nashville that night.

when we parked, another car parked next to us. We both got out at the same time and it was Bobby. I said “oh wow, hey, it’s Bobby Eaton” (I was tongue tied since he was part of my fav team)

He thanked us for coming and said he likes to come and help out at shows when he’s not on a wcw show. We told him about our trip and sat and talked to us for like ten minutes. I had to disengage from the conversation and told him
We don’t want to keep him from the show

He shook our hands and patted us on the back and thanked us for supporting the product

NXT as we know it is in shambles, with mass releases taking place and a new supposed edict from upper management to reshape the program.

“Paul Levesque [Triple H] and Shawn Michaels didn’t have anything to do with the cuts. It was done by Vince McMahon, Bruce Prichard and John Laurinaitis, and the basic gist is that NXT is gonna change in some ways. They think the competitors are too small and too old," Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observersaid.

The new edict from upper management is reportedly, "no [short people], no one starting in their 30’s, they want people who can be box-office attractions and main characters.”

The Young Bucks, known to regularly fire subtle shots in their Twitter bio, were once again at it over the weekend. While the bio has since been changed, it briefly said “Very tall. Not in our 30’s.”

Of course, Matt and Nick Jackson are both not very tall and very much in their 30s.

It's safe to say the brothers feel good about their decision to not join WWE after negotiating with the company at multiple points in their indie run.

On the other hand, it's fair to wonder what's going through Triple H's mind, as he has seen his brainchild gutted without having much say in the process. NXT has been WWE's best weekly program since it moved away from its old developmental format; the fact that it "lost" the Wednesday Night Wars is not a commentary on its quality.

It's fair to say the so-called powers that be should probably focus on fixing Raw's dreadful quality and SmackDown's repetitive matches before meddling in the one part of the company that works.

Did we really need to know how the Bucks feel about NXT seemingly being turned into Raw 2.0? Just seems weird to include their little twitter bio changes within an article about the NXT brand changing for the worse.

They’re obsessed with anything WWE. Nothing says confidence in your product quite like constantly focusing on someone else and hoping for recognition.
