Cam Johnson commits to UNC

It seemed like he was wanting to fight this before Diallo committed to coming back. I think he was going to wind up at UNC regardless of what HD did.

While it's stupid that they're restricting him, you have to know they're not going to let you go to a conference team, especially a power house, and play right away.

Do we know if and when this will be resolved? From what I've read and heard, some think he has a good case at getting cleared to play, but is there a hearing set up? A deadline? A grievance procedure? According to his letter, it sounds like he thinks Pitt already opened the door for him to play by allowing him to register at UNCheat.

IMO this a done deal.Do not think he would go there if it wasn't

Beg to disagree power 5 schools do not but the vast majority of other schools do it on a regular basis
Ok, but we're talking about a P5 school in this case. By your logic, there should never be a sit out period for transfers. That would create a system of free agency, which is a terrible idea.

While Maye is a pretty good player, he's overhyped here a bit because his two best games by far came against us. There were plenty of games where he didn't do anything last yeat. UNC has some talent coming back, it'll be interesting to see how they fair next year with that front court.

What can one school actually do to prevent someone from going to another school? If UNC accepts him into school and Roy gives him a uniform, is Stallings going to handcuff the kid to the basket support in Pittsburgh?

No surprise. Helps UNC a lot

Just unbelievable. What's the message here, cheat for decades
and be rewarded with more ineligible players. No way should UNC be allowed to set new precedent on this issue.

Were you really surprised that this has happened? I think most of us probably knew that UNC would end up getting anything they want to happen in their favor. I'm also thinking that almost nothing happens to them when the cheating investigation finally closes. It's the Carolina Way, right??? NCAA is worthless.

What happened is that Pitt realized it already lost all power it had in the situation and chose to say they "released" him to save face. Once they gave him permission to accept a financial aid offer from UNC he was immediately free. Grad transfers are different from regular ones and it's an all or nothing situation. Assuming a player is in good academic standing (which they should be if they are graduating) they are either given permission to move schools and play immediately or completely denied. There is no sit a year policy whatsoever for grad transfers and Pitt screwed up in thinking there was one.

If UNC impacted this in any way it was just pointing out that Pitt didn't understand the rule correctly. There was no bending rules or manipulation involved.

Surely you can't be this dumb.. let me put it in simple terms for you.

Pitt knew he wanted to transfer and said "you are free to receive an athletic scholarship from any school you choose". They thought they could still enforce certain restrictions about when he could play if he chose an ACC school, but guess what, they were wrong. They read the rule book wrong and screwed up.

If they would have blocked all ACC schools from the beginning then it would be a different story.

They know the loopholes inside and out.

Does this help UNCheat? Of course. Will it be enough for them to make noise in the tournament? Not unless CJ transforms into a low post player. When Maye is your only frontcourt returning player, and none of your incoming guys are projected to be major impact players their first year, you can expect double digit losses. Anyone who thinks this makes them into a contender is nuts.
