Sumrall to UNC ?

While I certainly won't cheer this outcome if it happens, the good news is that it would be relatively easier to pry Sumrall away from UNC in the year or two as opposed to a Florida, especially if he does well as expected.

The bad news is that even getting him away from UNC will cost a lot more than it would right now. I agree, MB has really f'ed up this program.

Yeah. If there are no facts, may need a ? In the post title.

Or maybe “Summeral has Not Gone to UNC Yet”. That would actually make it a factually correct title, if not 100% redundant with about 37 other posts…

This is not a move I fear. It's like Brohm going to Purdue. It was inevitable he'd be at Louisville at some point. UNC is not a job I fear us being unable to pluck him from when the time comes. If he went to someplace like Auburn or Florida or someplace like that, I'd be more pissed. this at least will give us a glimpse of his abilities at the P4 level, recruiting wise and otherwise. I am a bit surprised he isn't holding out to see what else transpires in the Coaching carousel, however this could also be exactly what I'm hoping for. that its a P4 job that he won't have a hard time leaving when that time comes for mama to call him home. Just will be crappy if Stoops all of a sudden decides to jump ship for somewhere else.

I should have put a ? mark in the title and yes this has been discussed already. However, this is the first article that says Sumrall is the main target of UNC. Unless he gets a better offer, I fully expect him to take the UNC job.

All good points. If he goes to UNC, it is better than him going to a power house program and killing it. If that were to happen, UK would no longer be an option for Sumrall.

Are we sure Sumrall is the guy? I mean, the last two games this year (Memphis and tonight Army) Tulane has not looked good on either side of the ball. I find it hard to believe that they're at a big talent disadvantage to either of those teams. Army is running right through them and Memphis threw open short passes all night long against them. Are we making Sumrall out to be a lot better than perhaps he really is? He checks a lot of boxes but these past two games haven't impressed me at all.

This unknown about Sumrall's situation has been a huge distraction to his team. They don't look like the same team they did a month, 6 weeks ago.

I like sumrall. But this notion that he’s a slam dunk hire is something I don’t understand. He did well at Troy but Tulane was already good when he got there.

It is a little concerning that he lost the two most important games of the season, but I would still take him over Stoops.

I’m not certain there is ever a slam dunk hire, but Sumrall checks a lot of boxes for a strong hire, especially by his Alma Mater, to whom he, presumably, would show loyalty.

Frankly, we older fans remember talk of passing on a young Claiborne and Chollie Mac in the 60’s/early 70’s, and then passing on Howard Schnellenberger when we hired an aging Claiborne in ‘81/82.

All Alum who wanted to come, and had significant success elsewhere, much to our chagrin.

The Sumrall situation just looks to us like De’ Ja Vu all over again, should we never get him back.

I’m a huge Sumrall fan, but you do have to take a step back and look at their year and he did only go 2-3 against teams that finished the season with a winning record.

They’ll get a bowl. Be interesting to see how they do.

How he can , or get help with managing P5 NIL coffers , the portal , filling out a roster , etc means everything. I’m sure he’d hire a good staff . Mack hasn’t recruited well the last couple yrs , and now this roster gets to do the portal with a coaching change…so it’ll be a challenge initially. Also , most want out of the ACC due to horrible TV contracts , and they’ll fall even further behind when revenue sharing kicks in ( ACC schools have less revenue ) The league is prime to have best teams poached by wealthier conferences and some will be left behind sort of ‘stuck ‘….its why FSU sued to get out

Neal Brown rocked @ Troy , much like Sumrall and West Va = North Carolina job. Sumrall biggest issues are Mack hasn’t recruited well the last couple yrs , the team gets to do the portal with the change , ACC will be further hampered when revenue splits kick in …and the league is going to to have some teams plucked for better TV deals . No doubt at least one top football school , and one top basketball

He's not Stoops so there's that.

I don't think any intelligent UK fans think any coach is coming to UK and winning anything that matters except maybe 1 playoff bid opportunity every decade or so if it expands to 16 teams one day . The imbalance with NIL and being n the SEC and heading to a 9 game conference schedule is too much to overcome.

Go get the Marshall Coach, he is in the last year of his contract no extension and a former Bama assistant. Guy is no nonsense and would put the D back in Discipline
