Bruiser Flint hired by UK as assistant

Kenny Payne wants to be a head coach someday. The Knicks job would be another great addition to his resume, especially if it works out.

And the "he wouldn't leave his son" is a joke. This will be Zan's third year in Lexington and still hasn't logged a minute. I realize that it is due to injury, but he was never going to play anyway.

If he takes the job it will be a huge blow to the program, but I wouldn't be bitter towards him. He has to do what is best for his career.

lol bro we all know Zan isn’t gonna play who really thinks he’s gonna get on the court?

If Flint is already being considered before Payne leaves, then it doesn't sound like Cal is interested in looking to see who is interested/available.

That's unfortunate.

Amazingly, he is worse than Barbee. Cal using Kentucky basketball for charity assistant coach hires for his players/friends should be an outrage. When the Cal era is over, it will be pretty plain to see how ridiculous this has become and how if coincided with our decline in success (post 2010-15, 2015-now). It's glaring.

Image being this clueless.

Won’t help recruiting. We need Antigua. He’ll get our recruiting back to 2012-ish levels. Kids love him.
Cal really needs help recruiting. He has the number one recruiting class again this year. KP was not at UK Cal's first year when he recruited Cousins and Wall. How did Cal do that without KP. Cal is the secret to recruiting and no one else.

I think fans think he was just lucky. ;)

If I had to guess I'd say its because he had a very strong relationship with WWW while he was at Memphis, and UK benefited from Cousins/Wall ready to follow Calipari to Kentucky. As WWW "diversified" his interest other colleges, UK had to find recruiting advantages elsewhere.

Cal continues to get the number 1 recruiting class without WWW. What is your next excuse?

KP hasn’t accepted the offer and Cal hasn’t hired Bruiser yet, I don’t know why some people are getting upset. I know it’s just discussion but some act like it’s a done deal.

there is nothing he can do wrong in your eyes

I hear this from some on here and wonder why we have to look for something wrong. He’s definitely not perfect but some on here get triggered when praise about him is mentioned. I guess my question to you is, why do you look for something wrong with Cal?

I know Cal is a loyal guy and puts it ahead of just about everything, but he’s not hiring Bruiser Flint and if he does he needs to start taking hard questions about putting his personal life ahead of his job description. Kentucky Basketball is not a personal club for coaches to see to it friends are taken care of.

Bruiser Flint is not even remotely close to the type of guy UK would need in the role of Payne. I would even be willing to bet recruiting takes a massive hit.

It’s just a bizarre situation. I’m going to assume this is media driven and “connect the dots” by the morons we call sports journalists today.

I'm not looking for anything wrong. I don't look at all, I just take everything at face value.

can you tell me that if we get Bruiser Flint as a replacement for Kenny Payne that you believe Cal exhausted all options to bring in the best possible replacement? Unless you can, then doesn't Cal have an obligation to do what its the best interest of Kentucky Basketball?

some people will see that and say "hey, Cal, are you really doing everything you can to get us to the next level? and some people will read it and decide that questioning anything Cal does, is an affront to the coach they unconditionally support

Now you take someone like kl40504 based on their posting history, and its undeniable they never once considered Cal is capable of making a mistake and will just accept that hiring Bruiser Flint is the best thing possible for UK. If he is considering Bruiser Flint, then Bruiser is the best choice for UK and Cal knows something we all don't.

You can't question the rumor without them chiming in and letting you know you are out of line for saying "hey, Bruiser Flint isn't the best we can do and Cal should really look at other options"

I can appreciate the loyalty, but its counter productive at some point.Perhaps a better approach would be "Cal is too good of a coach to hire Bruiser Flint to replace Kenny Payne, so you are just hand wringing over nothing.

Then we can both agree that its an absurd premise and move on. However that isn't the position. The position that is being supported is Cal can do no wrong including the hiring of Bruiser Flint. And you're going to get pushback when you promote that idea.

No one has even left yet so why panic, and if someone does leave, I will wait and see who is hired. Neither has happened yet so why complain on what the rumors are? I just don’t see why anyone wants to be upset about it especially until it happens. I think the virus is affecting everyone’s mental state on here. :)

Do you really not see that UK’s recruiting has dropped off recently?

Sure we have the number 1 or 2 class every year, but not all classes are equal.

This year, we have two composite 5-stars (one top 5, one top 10) and a bunch of 4-stars.

In 2013, we had six composite 5-stars (two top 5, three top 10).

In 2011, we had four composite 5-stars (two top 5, one top 10)

In 2010, we had four composite 5-stars (two top 5, one top 10).

In 2009, we had four composite 5-stars (two top 5).

Cal is still the best recruiter around, but he doesn’t recruit alone.

A lot of recruiting is done by the assistants. The assistants are what has changed, so I would say they are the ones to blame.

That and WWW isn’t endorsing Cal like he use to.

Hoping like hell KP doesn't take the NY job, but of course I won't blame him if he does; he has to look out for what's best for himself.

IF...IF he does leave, I hope like hell Cal takes a long hard look at who is available and doesn't hire BF; UK deserves a better assistant than that, IMO.
