Boom Williams situation getting distressing

Look at Alabamans roster issue every year. Same with schools like auburn, LSU, and Georgia. They all have ego issues to deal with. Why?

Because they have players that know how good they are and some aren't mature enough to handle it in stride. I see it all the time in coaching.

I'm glad we've got a few table setters (as I call them) on our team. Great teams have personnel bumps. Let it ride.

I have zero worries with stoops other than some in game coaching and unneeded/unnecessary blunders. He coached at Florida state under Fish For cryin out loud. He knows how to handle this. Either way, it's the right way. With or without boom. The correct answer will happen.

Hurd is a better all-round back (i.e. he picks up the blitz and blocks better than Boom) but Boom is better with the ball in his hands, and is definitely has much more potential for explosive plays, but Hurd is also better around the goal line to finish off a drive.

Kentucky coach Mark Stoops discussed the status of leading rusher Stanley "Boom" Williams, who was demoted to No. 2 on the depth chart following the Wildcats' win over Missouri, with local media Tuesday. "Boom is going through some personal things and we're going to keep that between Boom and I," Stoops said. "When he gets some things resolved and situated, he'll be back out there." Asked if he'll be available this week vs. Eastern Kentucky, Stoops said "We'll see." Williams leads Kentucky with 343 rushing yards and a 7.3 yards per carry average this season.

^ they are two different style backs. Boom is more of an explosive back where Hurd has more power. Hurd is not slow by any means, but he is more suited for between the tackle runs, while Boom has the quickness and speed to take it to the house from anywhere.

Sounds like the personal issue is a mental issue. Dealing with being replaced by JoJo. I hope they get this corrected. We need Boom on the field.

Dealing with being replaced by JoJo.
No, the issues began before the Mizzou game even kicked off. The issues caused him to play in a subpar manner in the game.

This shouldnt be a big deal, and would have been taken care of......but for KSR being KSR, and pissing all over football. Think there hasn't been some off the court drama with all of Calipari's 1 year superstars over the last few seasons? Of course there has been. Media folks like KSR kept that stuff quiet so the bball coaches could deal with it inhouse and with no big fuss or explosion from the fanbase. Stoops isnt afforded that same treatment, unfortunately. And now all week long idiots in our fanbase have been tweeting all kinds of garbage at Boom, media speculating that he quit the team, Stoops has to make a special press conference address of the issue.

Whole thing just makes me sick, morons making a mountain out of a molehill and doing their best to ruin what looks like a wonderful season

Has more to do with the Mizzou game...you are right that it should've been handled internally and not leaked, but Boom isn't innocent.

134 posts in 4 years? Ok buddy.

Boom and Boom Sr would not act that way, I am sure of that. A guy can take a benching badly but that doesn't mean they're a prima donna or a terrible person. By all accounts, Boom is a great kid.

Have you ever seen his dad at Catwalk? Dad doesn't seem like someone that I would call a stable, sane individual. Maybe he didn't storming into Stoops' office but he could easily be in Boom's ear about his playing time. From talking to his family last year at games, they seem to have high NFL hopes for Boom

I have never met his dad and the only exposure I've had has been on the pregame shows when he's walking the catwalk.

He seems like a fired up fan ready for some football to me. Am I missing something?

JHB4UK - you are absolutely correct. Coach Stoops will handle this and the media and the fans need to 'stay out of it'. It will be resolved soon and I hope Boom is getting those touchdowns.

One thought for all the "is better than Boom" guys. You're going to have to marine Boom behind their offensive lines. What would Boom do at LSU or UGA. Our OL is improving, but it isn at that level. I don't care who you are as a running back, you can't be great unless your OL is good. Our OL isn't to the point of calling them good, yet. It soon will be.

I am not claiming to have a source but someone told me that Boom found out he's having a kid. They said they saw it on the internet but I don't see anything about it. Take it for what it's worth. Maybe that's why his head wasn't in the game on Saturday but this is all speculation at this point.

Agreed. Two different backs. Hurd is the more well rounded of the two. He can do everything well. Boom has more ability for big plays but has decreased ability to run between the tackles, take on blocks, or get tough yds.

I think Boom needs a complimentary back to help split up carries. I would rather have the backfield of Boom/Kemp/Horton first and foremost, but if I had to only pick one back I would go with Hurd. (of course leaving out Fournette, Chubb, etc.)

For Boom to play in the next level he needs to face several realities.
- He is not an every down NFL back. He is marginal as an every down SEC back.
- He needs to stay healthy as at this point his elite quality is his speed and quickness.
- Less miles in college leaves more for the pros and injuries slow you down.
- Needs to get as big as possible while maintaining his speed and quickness.
- Needs to improve blocking, route running, and pass catching as his best upside would be a Darrin Sproles type situational and 3rd down back.

It is possible his issues are not football related. Even if so, he should work on this no matter where he plays.

I agree about the poor handling of the issue by KSR. There is little doubt that Ryan's info was more or less correct but it was still irresponsible to report it. Every team I have ever been on or been a close observer of has had these issues. Usually 4 or 5 such issues going on at a time. What's going on with Boom is actually quite normal. You just normally don't hear about it. I can tell you these issues have happened with the basketball team on many occasions. Only when it got serious as in the Harrow situation did the media make a big deal out of it. This should have been kept quite so that Stoops could handle the issue internally. Now it's a big issue and has to be something that gets handled in full view of the media.

It's also pretty clear this issue started before the Missouri game. Something blew up during the week of the Florida game. Not sure if it was how the issue was handled with Boom's dad or if something else happened.

I still think it gets worked out but everyone needs to chill. Stop with all the Boom is a problem kid crap. There is no evidence that he is anything but a good kid. There is no evidence of ego problems or behavior issues. And he is clearly a hell of a back. Anyone posting above that he is not an elite back doesn't know what they are looking at. Boom is the best back we've had since Little. He is absolutely one of the top 5 in the SEC.

Dang, I thought he was male...

Do you have any idea of how many college athletes have kids?

no kidding...after he had walked on the team. That's what the whole thread is about. That doesn't negate the fact that he's gotten the lions share since he's been here, and sweemingly has no reason to be upset.

I wasn't arguing with you I was simply pointing out that he had been dropped down the depth chart since you had indicated he was the starter. News is flying fast so perhaps you and others were not aware of it at that time.

I mean, that (if true, and I have no idea) still has the potential to weigh on a kid's mind. Are you suggesting that learning you are going to be a father, as a sophomore in college, would be something simply to dismiss, because you're not the one carrying the child? o_O

When you talked to the family did you tell Mr. Williams you think he's unstable and not sane? o_O

College? Try high school, a kid UGA is recruiting said in an update he wanted to be close to his kidS, he has 2. I was damn near 30 when my oldest was born and didn't have a clue how to take care of a baby, can't imagine a HS even attempting it.

How do you know what he's upset about? If it's personal as coach Stoops says, it might be love problems and nothing to do with PT.

98% of the posts I have read about the Oline on here are regarding their pass protection, but lost in the discussion is this is a pretty good run blocking unit, especially inside. I've seen Toth flat level some Dlinemen to open up a running lane at times. I can't honestly compare them to other SEC lines which I know are great like LSU, UGA that you mention, but our group does a pretty good job IMO.

Yeah you're right, having a kid is no big deal. Smh...I'm not saying it's true or not, it's just what I heard. I will say that if I found out I was having a kid I'd be freaking out too. And from what I understand this was unexpected. Once again, IF TRUE. Lots of rumors swirling around.

Well, that would explain not able to pick up a blitz and drop a pass. He could be having morning sickness and gets dehydrated.

Thanks clarifying. Your hate for KSR is obvious. I agree Matt and Ryan are idiots but they do it to drive ratings for their show. It's no different than Paul Finebaum with Alabama and Auburn. Now that his show is a national show they still only talk about the SEC west and UT, UGA and Florida.

Did anybody else watch the interview with coach Stoops? It's obvious to me that Boom and Coach Stoops have talked and he's leaving it in Booms' hands at this point. It's a team sport and the team should come first not an individual player. Also I noticed that nobody on this staff can stand Alan Cutler. How this moron has covered sports in Lexington is beyond me. What a complete moron and disgrace to the human race.

I have to agree with JHB4UK on this one. Some things are better left in-house and resolved rather than have them blasted all over the airwaves. I love to listen to Matt and Ryan but on this, KSR and especially Ryan was wrong to discuss it. I also saw that evidently it was started on a radio station in Louisville (I think 1450). Nevertheless, no matter where it started, it should not have been discussed by Ryan. I don't think 1450 gets a lot of listeners as compared to Matt's show.

If he' s gonna be a dad, it could be complicated in all sorts of ways. Is she on campus, or even if she is now, is she gonna stay on campus? Does he love her, or want a rwlationship, or was it a one night stand etc etc. Maybe its a hometown girl and hes torn as to whether he should move back to actually be a dad for his child? Whatever the case, best of luck. I hope he can figure out the balance of being a football player and a young father...assuming that rumor is true.

I don't hate KSR, actually when they have been the subject of attack from others on this site in the past I somewhat defended them. Love that they have given Freddie Maggard a megaphone to do his excellent radio & blog posts on football, has been a breath of fresh air to have someone that intelligent talk Xs & Os while at the same time being an unabashed fan of UK football. Unlike other UK sites who posted endless tweets on 16 year olds playing summer basketball, KSR sent people to SEC media days.

That said my original accusation stands; drama off the court by basketball players would not be talked about on KSR because they are mostly basketball fans and know doing so would harm the basketball program. UK football is not given the same reverence and respect.

Re KSR/SEC football media days....didn't they by pass that and go to some NBA scrimmage in Las Vegas? On 2d thought, maybe they sent the girl to Birmingham. At any rate, they gave only passing coverage.
