Occam's razor principle, aka, the law of economy: The simplest of competing theories is generally the right one. It could hardly be more obvious that Cal did not coordinate this with the Admissions Office. If he had worked with the Admissions Office, this would not be playing out like it is. Like many other people who post here, you seem to want the blame to fall on the shoulders of the Admissions Office. What is that about? The Admissions Office simply administers standard criteria for enrollment set by the University Senate Committee on Admissions and Academic Standards to comply with state and federal law. If you don't believe me, you can contact Leslie Vincent, the committee chair, directly.

Admissions are not something that gets "fixed". You should know that before you offer this kind of comment on Ivisic's situation, but you don't. There are criteria for admission. The criteria apply to each and every application.
KENTUCKY WOULD NOT BE "CHEATING" BY ANY STANDARD. It is the university's decision ONLY. The NCAA doesn't care about an English equivalency test. Not one bit. They'd care if he started failing classes and continued to play. That's all.
People are ticked because there's quite a few stories here that have provided anecdotal students they knew who had less qualifications the Z appears to have. I personally know of one that could NEVER have gotten in academically to UK without a wink and a nudge. And yes, they were an athlete. And never would have had a chance to get a college education if it wasn't for their athletic ability. How did they do at UK? Well, not amazing. But they passed and were given a quality education because they were offered resources once they got there to succeed both in the classroom and on the field. THAT'S what colleges are freaking supposed to do. And really what the American education system is supposed to be about.
The other part people are ticked about is do you really think Z, having fluency in 4 languages, falls into the 5-6% of students that aren't UK material?
If he does end up going else where, you don't think that's going to reflect badly on UK? Please.
The pushback has come because several know of people who have gotten in UK with less. His grades are apparently fine. He's not some international criminal mastermind that we know of. What's the major issue?
Because he failed a reading portion of an exam where he wasn't given the accommodations needed?
Do some schools cheat? Sure, some do. Is that what you want for Kentucky? When schools violate their own criteria to admit athletes, people get in trouble and people get fired. That may not matter to you or to those who just want their 7 footer all else be damned. But it matters a lot to the school and to the people who are directly affected.
Ah, the old straw man. You're assuming that issuing a waiver here is immediate cheating and that I WANT UK to be in trouble. Lunacy. I want a kid who's learned to speak English better than some of our denizens, wants to come to UK, and do it the right way to have a chance at success both in school and on the court. UK is acting like it's MIT. And we know that's not the case.
Also, from your other posts, you seem to have info (or insinuate you do), so if that's the case, why not say it?
