Barnhart PC

I don't understand the dislike for your AD that alot of people here have for him. 15 years ago he had to fight boosters for every dime programs other than men's BB, what cal said was right THEN. He had to make changes which didn't happen overnight, he made a good hire, his guy, not a former player a booster wanted, invested in facilities, stayed patient with Stoops, giving assistants raises to retain them. He doesn't have a magic wand to wave and make things happen. I just don't understand the dislike for him
It’s not a lot of people. It’s just a loud minority. The rest of us don’t take them seriously.

Those that don't like Mitch are either the ones that weren't here for the past several decades with BB ADs that marginalized football, or BB only fans.
That or they just really wanna buy alcohol. Which for me is a non-issue one way or the other. By and large, I'm like, "Drink 'em if you got 'em," but I care about the programs more -- all of them -- and thus is the first time more or less the entire athletics program has been looked after.

I'm glad Mitch is speaking out. He needs to remind everyone that the athletics department is dedicated to being excellent in ALL sports, and one sport does NOT take priority over another. Calipari wondered off the reservation and needs to be brought back into the fold while he's here.

Everyone involved in sports at UK should be a TEAM PLAYER.
I have heard several coaches in different sports talk about taking recruits and their families to see Cal and how much Cal was willing to help. That’s being a team player.

KSR Preshow made a good point....why is this crap having to be handled publicly. Stoops had to to get Nutter updated, and now Cal is having to because Craft is leaking. Difference is obviously Stoops didn't make asshat remarks about basketball's shortcomings lately, but it is valid to point out these guys can't get on the same page as Mitch behind closed doors where this stuff SHOULD be happening.

Stoops would've never gotten that upgrade had he not been getting serious job offers. That and private plane usage were his two main asks. Embarrassing it came to that.

While true, football should be te financial focus and (at UK) basketball close behind. Those two generated the massive sec network deal that filed the coffers. From a day to day basis, football funds everything.

Those two stop raking in the dough and the whole party is over. Noone tunes in or shows up to watch any of the other stuff; no matter how much people want to pretend otherwise.

it is amazing isn't it. I guess he dared to make UK respected in football and that is a no no in some UK circles. I look at what he has done since he took over as AD and it is a job well done across the board.

I think too many UK fans feel the AD should be a basketball administrator and director only. This is a narrow minded view of what an AD is at a major university. Personally I am thankful I can hold my head up high in Gator Country where I live knowing we have a chance of victory when we meet and the football program is decent. It feels good.

I admit I don't know much about all the programs, but I don't know of one that isn't having success.

This little blowup is about new facilities, this is my personal opinion. I rather have those funds from boosters put in some kind of trust to fund FIL. Put a coat of paint what's already there

Do you really think an 'ambassador" of the program in Cal would be a good role with his divisive comments to the university?
Until now, Cal has been a good ambassador for the basketball program. At times in the not too distant past, Cal may have been a better ambassador than coach. Raising money for victims of natural disasters (flooding and tornadoes) was classy and brilliant, also a great lesson for his players to see and help with.

But dumping on the football program to campaign for new basketball facilities was unacceptable and totally unnecessary. If Cal wants new facilities, he could make his case without dumping on another Kentucky sport. The divisiveness of Cal's recent behavior is obvious. Our fans are falling all over themselves to comprehend this. Some of our fans are defending Cal while others are calling him out. It's a very bad look, and it will probably hurt recruiting in both sports. As I observed on another thread earlier today, our fans wanted Cal gone after he lost to St. Peter's. Then he dumps on our football program and people are defending him. This is totally nuts.

I'm apparently not in you guys' tax bracket. If your roof start leaking you don't fix the roof, you buy a whole new house?

Stoops punked him back to his place today, entitled brat

Bottom line of this crap from the last 3 days: zero plan for any new basketball facilities. Thank God. Now get the damn Nutter ctr to 100 yd setup, rip out track.

Let's play football
Haven't they started the Nutter renovations yet?

That isn't the point, every player on either team is a representative of the university and deserve the perks that come with that.
You are right in regard to the players for sure. Each and every player in every sport represents the school. But when agitating over capital expenditures for different sports, it matters that football is the cash cow. This is only practical. What school would not generously provide infrastructure for the sport that brings in the most money? Common sense.

Having said that, Kentucky has always been all in on basketball. There is a reason why every reliable source on the subject regards Kentucky as one of the top college basketball programs in the country. I remember when Kentucky football fans complained that basketball got more support than football. Then along came Mitch Barnhart and that got evened out to be more fair and reasonable. So, now, no one is happy. Schizoid is the word of the day.

I know Calipari had done a lot to help out with football which is why this statement caught everyone by surprise, it was uncharacteristic of him.

The Olympic sports don't need anything close to what the two revenue sports need, but you're right in that football is bigger and requires more funding then basketball but the needs of both revenue sports should be address fairly to the extend that resources are available for them.

Mitch said about we all said he'd say.

1. The two coaches are competitive people and he's talked to both and neither have talked to each other.
2. We're one university, blah, blah, blah. We're doing great in olympic sports and the overall scoring of athletic programs as a whole (which is the man's hard on)
3. As far as facilities.....Memorial is getting a facelift for women bball/volleyball. Then tennis facility is due for an upgrade...then track....which translates to getting the indoor football facility a full field and not chopped off end zones..
4. He stated current basketball facility is 15 years old and we've made updates to it along the way.

So that is about what we all imagined....I don't blame him for not getting more into it. But he needs to get us away from Cal and put his butt to pasture with the lowest buyout. Let's see how next 2 years play out....but no more commitments to Cal please.

Exactly. If someone comes knocking on Cal’s door and is willing to pay his buyout and take him off our hands, let em.

Just listening between the lines he came down as hard has he could on Calipari saying the original statement was not productive. Not that the back and forth was non productive. Also he said something to the effect answering a question about the possibility of losing a coach that he has given them everything they've asked for and will keep providing but if they want to walk . . . I guarantee he wasn't talking about Stoops there. He pointed out that other programs are already trying to take advantage of the comment and he wants it put to bed and get back to focusing on the upcoming seasons.

I thought he did a good job overall of trying to put the train back on the tracks, and once again emphasized that we are not a football school or a basketball school we are an everything school.

He couldn’t have imagined it would play out like this. I think with the team he has and the recruiting going so good had him a little frisky.

Definitely. Kinda human nature but he announces that he would raise the money so just do it. You and I would pitch in some right?

I’m a Barnhart fan, but he has a couple glaring weaknesses. He’s terrible at contracts and he’s weak on the PR side of things. There is a general feeling among many in our fan base that he caters to the rich and doesn’t care at all about the common fan….and they aren’t wrong. That second glaring weakness is why many don’t like him.

They can’t start the Nutter renovations until the new track and field complex is built. Not sure if the timeline, but it’s probably another two years before Nutter itself is done.

Apparently supply chain issues have and continue to be a huge holdup, not just materials but equipment, contactors etc. Everyone is booked out out for months. Probably that way in a lot of places right now.

A ton of big projects going on right now within 50/60 miles of Lexington. They are having trouble filling calls out of the Locals. Evidently, concrete is the new can’t get it raw material.

My yard boy's day job is driving a concrete truck. He was here this morning. They are busy, and the price has inflated just like everything else. But there is no shortage of concrete. Concrete is just a mixture of water and ground rocks.

There is here, heard from several people that do it for a living. Hard to get right now if you’re not a regular customer of the concrete company. Now, would that affect a UK project other than price, who knows. May just delay their pours.

You do realize it was one of the players, Fredrick, the kid from KY who came up with the idea for a telethon to raise money for the flood victims in E. KY.
Cal is in the position as UK coach to create an unbelievable legacy for his career in the Commonwealth, but Cal seems to be too self centered and totally tone deaf to understand his words matter.

Instead of leading, Cal is like a petulant little child who doesn't get their way and decides to throw a little fit to get attention on himself.

And I agree with the poster who called Cal a coward. His two biggest blunders occurred away from Lexington.

Coincidence?? I think not. Planned by a narcissistic egotistical little man who knows where and when to manipulate the narrative to suit his agenda.

This time, he got burned.
