Lol, um, we still weren't even that good offensively last year. Yes, we were a lot better than we had been, but still nothing to write home about. A large part of that was Wandale.

We hired air raid guys when we had no recievers, crappy passing QB's and really good run games. That's not a recipe for passing success, bud.

We could hire the greatest OC who ever lived, but if Stoops is still the HC, who ultimately makes the decisions, it won't matter. That's what some of you have failed to understand. We keep hiring OC's that are supposedly highly regarded and have success elsewhere. They come here and look awful and have no success. Why is that? What do they all have in common?
Until we fix the main problem, nothing is going to change. And Stoops is that problem.
Yet you have NO solution. Just more whining and spin. Stoops ain’t getting fired. We would be the laughing stock of college football if we did that.

news flash ding dong, we won 10 games last year and you’re still whining that things weren’t good enough last year. You’re the reason we can have nice things. Bud.

Dude 8-4 is 8-4. In two years who’s gonna care or remember what the schedule was?
8-4 with 3 patsies, Vandy, Louisville, and a bad Florida team. 4th in the East. Music City Bowl. If you're good with that then we don't need to talk anymore.

Pretty sure a coaching overhaul is a solution.

We would be the laugh stock because we want to be better and realize Stoops can't get us there? LSU fired their coach less than 2 years removed from a NC. This year they are ranked 15th. No one is laughing at them now. I KNOW, I KNOW, we aren't LSU, but I am just saying no one will be laughing at us for wanting to achieve more than we are currently capable of. We get laughed at for things like this past Saturday night.

10 games against who? What was the best team we beat last year?

I agree, I am the reason we can have nice things! 🤣😉

Hey junior, Herbstreit and Fowler ain't stopped yucking it up yet!!

Press- "Why don't you have a dedicated ST coach?"

Stoops- "We have never had a coach that ONLY coached special teams."

Press- "Why don't you have a ST coach?"

Stoops- "We can't add another coach, because we are at our ncaa mandated staff limit."

Press- "Why doesn't anyone coach ST?"

Stoops- "We all have a hand in coaching ST."

Fans that don't pay attention 8 games into the season- "He didnt hire a ST coach! Why?"
I love Stoops but this is one thing I simply can't understand. My team, Iowa, has had one of the nation's best special teams for a long time and they have a devoted coach to that area and only that area. This is why it's top notch. Stoops needs to adjust this some how IMO.

There are 3 phases to the game... offense, defense, special teams. To not have a ST coach is a dereliction of duty.
So is needing your 6th OC in 10 seasons and a 4th in 4 seasons. 5 of the 6 are gone because they were/are being fired.

Who would be on your list of coaches that you'd want? Sincerely curious.

That depends on the if we are wanting to look into a really good OC/DC to promote into a HC coaching role, or if we want to go more with an established head coach. I like Fickell a lot. Matt Rhule is another solid name. Deion Sanders has done a great job so far at Jackson St. Not sure if he would be at all interested, but he would be worth a look. I am not as big on Hugh Freeze as some others, but I do think you consider it. If you go the OC/DC approach, then obviously we should be looking at the GA, Bama, Clemson, OH St. and some of the pro guys. Coen would be near the top of my list there. I think he is going to be a really good HC when he gets the chance.

This is the deal...get rid of Cal and the basketball program will still survive. It's done it numerous times in the past.

Losing Stoops would mostly likely set the program back. You would lose Big Dawg as well...our Jimmy and Joe's are off the charts better than what we have historically had prior to Stoops.

We going to lose a lot of over-hyping tweets and drama? Ohh no!!!

I'm not as big on Coen as others are. We struggled mightily in some games last year (5 games scoring 20 or fewer points) with him leading the charge. It's too early, but I'm really interested in seeing what Sumrall does at Troy and feel like he might be the gem of last years coaching staff. I'm a huge fan of his and feel like he is someone to keep an eye on.

I would stay away from the Clemson coordinators as they just have not faired well. Agree on Fickell and Rhule, just don't see them making the jump to UK. I used to be a huge Matt Campbell fan, but he has crapped the bed lately. Todd Monekn (UGA OC) intrigues me a little as he turned the Southern Miss program from 0-12/0-8 to 9-5/7-1 in his 3rd year and then jumped to be an OC in the NFL.

Hiring head coaches at middle of the road programs (which we are) is such a tough thing to do. I look back at when we hired Stoops and these are the other 4 names that were being considered:

Sonny Dykes - fired at Cal
Mike MacIntyre - fired at Colorado
Butch Jones (who most wanted) - fired at UT
Gary Anderson - pushed out at Wisconsin then fired by Oregon State

We are obviously in a much better place now than we were back in 2012 when we hired Stoops, so the quality of guy we could potentially get when Stoops leaves is better.

Honest question- do you actually believe players are clamoring to play for Stoops? Or do you think they are wanting to play in the SEC?

Big-time players want to play in the NFL farm league, which is what the SEC has now become. Stoops has little to do with it- and to the extent he does, it’s not all that positive.

We no longer have to out recruit everyone in the country. We just gotta out recruit other SEC schools and a handful of other power teams. Stoops has essentially done the absolute minimum on this front given the changing landscape of college football.

I can’t imagine why ppl still believe Stoops is drawing in players any other coach couldn’t get at UK. What is it you think they’re attracted to? His exciting offense? Never winning your own division and having more free time around the holidays? What exactly do yall believe Stoops offers another coach wouldn’t?

I'm good with Stoops. But during the TV broadcast Saturday night one of the announcers commented that there were only about 2-3 other coaches that coached the same style as Heupel. We need to hire one of those guys as OC.

I agree on most all of this. I would prefer not to go the OC/DC route again, as I think to make the next jump, we need someone proven. There is a still a large Mike Leach crowd as well. Not my pick, but another name that is somewhat proven.

But we need to strike soon while we are still a solid brand, with eager fans. Considering we play in the premiere football conference, we are willing to spend and have nice facilities, we don't have crazy high expectations other than get us to a bowl annually and hopefully contend for the east every few seasons, we should be able to net a pretty damn good coach.

Edit: We are 31-48 or 39% in conference games under Stoops. So we obviously have to be pretty reliant on OOC games to obtain bowl eligibility.

What was the conference record of every other UK head coach since Bear Bryant? Take out the first two years, and Stoops is 29-32. No other UK coach in the last 70+ years comes close to that. We've won two New Years Day Bowl games in the last 4 years. Been 70 years since we did that once, before Stoops. Why is it that the people who know the least speak the loudest these days?

We would be 29/34 without the first 2 seasons. Seems odd wr have to discount 2 seasons to inflate his record, but that's usually an indication of an overrated coach.

Just because he has been the best we have had since Bryant doesn't mean he is good or getting it done. The smartest kid in the special education class is still in special education. That doesn't make them smart.

Also, you do understand that's not the same as a NY6 bowl, right?

1. I would say Stoops is a decent coach with decent talent that produces decent results.

2. They are all great coaches, but they also have great talent (obviously correlates too). Dabo was 29-19 in his first 4 years before upping his recruiting and winning at high rates. Outside of 2003 at LSU, Saban was 69-39 in his first 10 years between MSU and LSU. He's lost 26 games in 16 years at Bama and the talent has been much better there. But yes, those 4 guys are 4 of the best and could win at a high rate anywhere.

3. That 2020 class lost some guys, but very few of the big name guys we got. 10 of the 12 top guys we signed according to Rivals are still with the program. We lost BA and Torrance Davis, who doesn't even play football anymore I don't think.

4. This year has been disappointing, no doubt. Two bad losses to USC and UT. But I think you and I have a differing view of what "still suck" means.

I like Stoops. He's taken a huge step for this program from where it was in the 40 years prior, but I do agree with others that he might have reached his ceiling. You and I both know no AD, with a history like us and the success he's had here relative to prior coaches, is going to fire him. It's just not going to happen. But yes, I'd love to see what a big time coach could do here.
I don't know that Stoops isn't a big time coach. He certainly had a deer in the headlight look Sat with that enviroment..
Look he is stubborn to a BIG fault when it comes to his philosophy on offense. He still believes that he he can win BIG with a ball control, low scoring offense even though all around him are coaches who are seeing that just isn't the case in 2022. Check all the stats you want with the top 15/20 ranked teams.
GA, Ala, puke orange, Miss and LSU are all scoring at a +35ppg clip with the former 3 at +40. He's got to change or we are going to get left in the dust. It's just that simple, but listen...

Look the guy is 70% right about Stoops . Our talent has been upgraded tremendously under this regime, BUT there's three big problems.
1. Offensive philosophy of the HC.
2. The HC waking up and admitting he is wrong like Saban did.
3. Hiring an OC that will flip this script and the HC leaving him the hell alone.
I'm just having little hope that any of this will happen.
I still say if you flipped the staffs Saturday that the results would have flipped.
We have run out of the Boom Williams, Benny Snells and Chris Rodriguezs !

Well you got me...pulled me into a conversation with a real live Jackass.
Okay well let me try it this way…. you’ve attempted to compare our situation with Vanderbilt, by highlighting Vandy’s struggles in recruiting and insinuating that we are far-outpacing them through the recruiting efforts of Stoops. When in fact, Vanderbilt essentially proves our point.

In 2021, despite going 2-10 overall, 0-8 in conference, Vandy still had the 35th ranked recruiting class for 2021. Stoops, recruiting juggernaut that he is, had the 34th ranked recruiting class for that same year (In 2022, we ranked 14th, while Vandy stayed steady at 35).

So one could draw the conclusion that in football’s new landscape, being in the SEC creates a floor of about 35th-ish.

So while having the 35th class would have historically been good for UK teams, in today’s SEC it essentially requires you to simply turn on your cell phone.

NIL caught the other SEC teams up from what Stoops was able to build.
Does nil have some impact on things going forward? Yeah. The portal is the change that allows teams to change quickly. I mean the days of saying ‘I’m overcoming history over the next decade’ is just different now. So we better be ready to adjust and move quickly. I do have concerns

stoops did a great job of getting talent better than uk was used to because of his ohio connections. that being said, at this point, he is getting talent but he's also the first uk coach with competitive budgets and facilities. and i say that just to be fair, not because i'm anti stoops in any way.

Just an opposite take: who wouldn't want to come here? One of the highest paid head coaches, just go to a bowl (minor). Schedule some cup cakes that you can lay 40 on and stay away from scandal.

Nobody is good with how the season is shaping out. But as it sits right now I’d be overjoyed with 8 wins. I’m talking about right now. I don’t give a shit how many cupcakes you see. I’d be thrilled to finish this season with 8 wins with how we have played lately

If you can’t tell the difference between Kentucky and LSU in the landscape of College football then you’re not savy enough to discuss this with. You have no grasp on reality and if you truly think firing stoops will magically make us a contender then you are dense. 10 wins is out freakin standing at Kentucky and if you can’t be satisfied with that then it’s likely nothing will make you happy short of an impossible undefeated season.

You are out of touch

Lol, what?

LSU is in the 3rd poorest state in the nation with a very similar population. They achieve in football because they desire to. They make changes when needed, like firing a HC 2 years removed for a NC. They don't just sit on their asses and act like Music city and Belk bowls are enough. And they don't just keep blaming OC's fir the HC's shortcomings and failures. They embrace things like NIL.

10 wins against who? Who was the best team you feel we beat last year?

I don't and never claimed firing Stoops made us a contender. If your argument was sound, you wouldn't need to resort to using fallacies. We will have to do the work to hire a solid coach, but I don't see why we can't do that, after getting a new AD of course.

I promise, I’m not trying to be argumentative here. It’s obvious you’re a strong UK fan and hopefully my love for UK shows as well.

But honestly, why can’t we be LSU? I guess that’s the part I don’t get. Historical barriers that made that true are in the past. TV money has leveled the playing field within our conference. While their state produces more D1 talent, players from up North wanting to play in the SEC now is more of a benefit to us than in the last.

I think you guys see us wanting a change as being anti-Stoops, when honestly I see it as being more pro-Kentucky. A lot of great coaches would be lucky to have this job now.

Also, we beat #9 UL the same year. We also played 4 other ranked opponents and looked respectable in all of them. Could never say that about Stoops.

This is another example of you not knowing what you are talking about. LSU could be a top 10 team, just by signing nothing but the top players in Louisiana each year. They don't even have another P5 school in the state, like Kentucky does. The bottom line is that we have 70 years of history that says we are a lot more likely to take a step back after Stoops leaves, than a step forward.

I lived in Louisiana nine years. My two boys went to LSU. They have more football players, per capita, in that state than almost any other… they have no in-state competition ( Tulane is like Vandy), coupled with the most loyalty from within the state.
then they cherry pick out of Mobile, and especially Houston, which is only four hours away … 7 million people in the metro area.

So do LA players not leave LA or something? Seems odd all these other schools can compete ahead of LA without that level of talent in those states than what LA has.
