I promise, I’m not trying to be argumentative here. It’s obvious you’re a strong UK fan and hopefully my love for UK shows as well.

But honestly, why can’t we be LSU? I guess that’s the part I don’t get. Historical barriers that made that true are in the past. TV money has leveled the playing field within our conference. While their state produces more D1 talent, players from up North wanting to play in the SEC now is more of a benefit to us than in the last.

I think you guys see us wanting a change as being anti-Stoops, when honestly I see it as being more pro-Kentucky. A lot of great coaches would be lucky to have this job now.
I'm not advocating for replacing Stoops, just him changing philosophy on the most important aspect in cfb in 2022 and going forward...SCORING POINTS!

Louisiana has roughly 3 to 5 times the number of legitimate P5 prospects in a high school class than does Kentucky. In fact, Louisiana may be No. 1 per capita in America in that respect.

They haven't made back to back playoffs.
Sorry, just a NY6 bowl and a playoff the next year. Point still stands. How they can achieve this success with far worse recruiting than we have had. Hell, most of UC's recruiting classes from 2013 on weren't even in the top 50.

If UK played in the AAC, and if they still had the same level of recruiting and funding in that conference, then UK would be in a NY6 bowl on a near yearly basis. Keep in mind that at least one midmajor is guaranteed a NY6 berth, so it would usually be UK, if UK was in a crap conference. I will give Fickell credit for UC being that team twice in a row, but this year is not looking like it's a third time for them.

The 2022 UC team was good but would have been lucky to finish above .500 in conference play against a SEC schedule. It's a limited sample, but they have never beaten any SEC team in their history not named Kentucky, Vanderbilt, or Mississippi State, and the overall record against UK is pretty terrible.

You answered your own question. LSU has the recruiting base. We don’t. Stoops has tapped into the Ohio and Penn pipeline and it’s worked well for us

Lol, what?

LSU is in the 3rd poorest state in the nation with a very similar population. They achieve in football because they desire to. They make changes when needed, like firing a HC 2 years removed for a NC. They don't just sit on their asses and act like Music city and Belk bowls are enough. And they don't just keep blaming OC's fir the HC's shortcomings and failures. They embrace things like NIL.

10 wins against who? Who was the best team you feel we beat last year?

I don't and never claimed firing Stoops made us a contender. If your argument was sound, you wouldn't need to resort to using fallacies. We will have to do the work to hire a solid coach, but I don't see why we can't do that, after getting a new AD of course.
You don’t know anything about college football. It’s not your fault. It is what it is. LSU has the recruiting base. We don’t. Period.

You consider the #1 team, LSU, a cupcake? Weren't they also NC that season? 🤔

Also, we beat #9 UL the same year. We also played 4 other ranked opponents and looked respectable in all of them. Could never say that about Stoops.
I loved brooks. Loved his teams. He caught lightning in a bottle with that group of kids. He had that one great year. You want to pump up our results all those other years? I’m sure we had an easier schedule at times.

just stop arguing. At this point you’re doing it for the sake of arguing.

So do LA players not leave LA or something? Seems odd all these other schools can compete ahead of LA without that level of talent in those states than what LA has.
Dude. Stop. There are posters trying to tell you what time it is. You need to listen. We all want the same thing in the end. You just don’t seem to grasp some common knowledge.

you mentioned cincy. A decent example of success in our area. Remind me again, are they in CUSA or the sunbelt? Maybe the MAC? They had some great offense for a long time. We should totally hire an ex cincy OC. Oh wait…..

I’m just saying that the state of Louisiana has a plethora of Top tier college football players… players, that will go on to become professionals. They sign, generally , the very best from their state. LSU won three national championships in the last 19 years as long as there is a good head coach. Saban, Miles , Coach O…now Kelly, the majority of their good players stay in state. There are so many of them, some leave to go to Georgia, Alabama, and Tennessee, and Texas A&M, which is only about four hours away

I think I saw a while back that LSU has more players in the NFL than any other team including Bama. I’m betting most are home grown

how can we not understand why Kentucky isn’t LSU? Come on guys.

I am skeptical of that. I don't think we would consistently win there either. We wouldn't have beaten those last 2 Cincy teams for instance.

It's normal to step back after a couple of good years. Really after one most teams regress for a season or two.

Lol, we have a pipeline with Penn and only have 1 player from the state? Levis is from CT, btw.

OH, yes! But half of the OH recruits are from Cincy, which is literally a boarding town to KY.

They were good the year before that, too. Not quite as good, but still a bowl team.

We definitely didn't have easier schedules. The SEC was stacked, including the west. Even UL was really good then. The SEC is honestly probably the easiest it's ever been right now. Bama is consistently good in the west, GA in the east. Otherwise, it's been a crapshoot the last few years. LSU had a good year. Auburn had a good year or 2. Now it appears to be Ole' Miss having a good year in the west with Bama. And this year, TN is the only other good east team besides UGA.

Neither of those, but why would it matter what conference they are in if we can't beat them? Have you even looked at their strength of schedule in those years? Considering a committee voted them in based on their body of work for the season, I would bet it wasn't that bad.

Okay, so LSU was just one example. If all the talent is coming from there, how are all these other programs competing as well? We are 80 miles from UC, who were just in the playoffs. We are less than 200 miles from OSU and TN, sitting dead center of them both, and they are both looking for playoff spots this year. Sounds like there must be something we could do, right?

Keep in mind coen was a sensational hire. Probably the best OC we ever had. So don’t act like he’s hired bum after bum. He tried to appease the fanbase with a couple air raid guys and it sucked yet if this fanbase had its way we would go the air raid route again in a heartbeat. It’s weird.

I will not shit on Eddie gran the way many want to. The dude built a serviceable car with tonka tools. I mean, he won 8 games without using the forward pass. But again, we moved on from him to appease the fanbase. I’d take him back as the OC tomorrow because he can make lemonade. Time will tell how bad the new guy sucks. He may not get a second year. But he may do ok in a second year with (hopefully) a better O line.

I agree. Gran did a amazing job with what he had to work with a few years. (Due to injury ect)
He may have been the best I have seen here in scheming the run game.
The problem was you have to be a able to throw the ball, He wasn't able to get that done here. Injuries might have caused some of that, regardless QB/WR we're not interested in coming here to play til coen was hired. That changed big-time in one year. But if stoops does not get this offense untracked,he will have a very very difficult time recruiting that type of talent!

Dear Lord, stop focusing on whether we can be LSU. Stoops can’t be South Carolina.

Do me a favor- tell me what it would take for you to want Stoops fired. How many years without even winning our half of the conference? Being dominated by Tennessee. Another decade? Does he deserve 20 years? Thirty?
Sure. A sustained downward trajectory. 6–6……5-7….5-7…….6-6…….4-8…..

he’s earned a bit of a grace period from hence forward. But 3 years or so of declining results would be too much for him to weather.

Okay fair enough. I can’t imagine giving him 5 more years but at least you are willing to place some expectations out there.

imo I’m not sure counting OOC wins really tells us anything tbh, especially given the ever-widening gap between the SEC and everyone else. Beating Youngstown State really shouldn’t factor in imo. Failing to have winning records in conference, even with Vandy on the schedule every year, would seem to be a more accurate gauge.

Hard NO! I have been a fan through John Ray, Fran Curci, Jerry Clayborne, Bill Curry, Hal Mummy, Guy Morris, Rich Brooks. Joker Phillips and now Mark Stoops. Going back to about 1966 Stoops is the best head coach in my memory. I don't see UK getting a better one.

Nobody is good with how the season is shaping out. But as it sits right now I’d be overjoyed with 8 wins. I’m talking about right now. I don’t give a shit how many cupcakes you see. I’d be thrilled to finish this season with 8 wins with how we have played lately
Juxtapose this with "10-2, "11-1" and "Atlanta" and "best talent ever'. :)

Always these guys 😆

If you compare our numbers to the teams that wore leather helmets, Stoops looks like a ****ing offensive wizard. Maybe, just maybe, some of these comparisons are not relevant 🤷🏻‍♂️

His overall style is boring. Conservative D, stale O and Im not going to mention the shit show that is the special teams. I started at 8-4 before the season, looks 7-5 or 6-6 might be realistic. Stoops has reached his ceiling, KY doesn't have the recruiting base, UK has to recruit outside to be competitive or expect to win.

Hypotheticals are a waste of time. We can’t see into the future so I will never chant “fire the coach” based on what “might” happen. We don’t know what will happen. Who expected tenn to be sitting at number 1 and Oklahoma/Notre dame to suck?

The truth is we are coming off a 10 win season and there’s less than zero percent chance that stoops will be replaced anytime soon and he doesn’t need to be. So all this “replacement” talk is just ignorant. it’s a waste of time. But it is a message board and I suppose it’s how people vent their frustration.

I gotta say it’s not fair the way you are downplaying our ooc wins. You act like Kentucky is the only team who plays cupcakes ooc. Each and every sec team does it. Most teams have at least one competent ooc opponent. Ours is Louisville. Some teams like Georgia and bama play more marquee opponents but Kentucky can Ill-afford to be that ambitious at the moment. A win is a win. History will remember the overall record. Be happy we aren’t losing to wku and Ohio anymore.

I realize you all have short attention spans, but we’ve clearly been better than South Carolina recently. Not defending this year’s loss, but that’s not the comparison you want to make.

Troll is obvious…the fact you couldn’t even get majority support on here should be particularly disheartening.
I can’t put my finger on it. I know I recognize his posting style. He’s one of our long departed nutty brothers from rafters. Back with a shiny new account.
