Oakmont will host the championship for a record 10th time in 2025, three times more than any other club. It will also be the club's 17th USGA championship, which ranks one behind fellow Pennsylvania venue Merion Golf Club for the most all time.
The course has previously hosted the U.S. Open in 1927, 1935, 1953, 1962, 1973, 1983, 1994, 2007 and 2016.

  • USGA Sr. Director of Rules and Competitions Mike Davis: "There's a reason [the U.S. Open is] coming back to Oakmont. This really is the gold standard for championship golf. It doesn't get any better than Oakmont."[22]
  • Lee Trevino: "There's only one course in the country where you could step out right now — right now — and play the U.S. Open, and that's Oakmont."[23]
  • Phil Mickelson: "It's really a neat, special place."[24]
  • Johnny Miller: "It's probably the best course in the world . . . This is the greatest course I've ever played."[24]
On Oakmont's greens:

  • Tiger Woods:"That golf course is going to be one of the toughest tests that we've ever played in a U.S. Open, especially if it's dry, it will be unreal because those greens are so severe."[9]
  • Arnold Palmer: "You can hit 72 greens [in regulation] in the Open at Oakmont and not come close to winning."[24]
  • Rocco Mediate said of the greens that they are "almost impossible"
  • Sam Snead once quipped that he tried to mark his ball on one of Oakmont's greens but the coin slid off.[9]
  • Lee Trevino claimed every time he two-putted at Oakmont, he knew he was passing somebody on the leader board.[9]
  • Johnny Miller said that Oakmont's are the greatest greens for testing a player's ability to putt.[9]
  • USGA Sr. Director Mike Davis: "[Oakmont's greens are the] scariest in golf."[9]

When you look at top 8 or 10 golfers, honestly, I think we are in a Golden Age of golf. There are a lot of super players active and in their prime.

Like Bryson’s videos but he thinks and plays at a level that is hard to comprehend. The sound of the golf ball is just different. US Open’s setup well for him so expect him to be in the mix on Sunday.

So knowing how hard the professionals think the greens are to putt on at Oakmont it raises the question, if you could start from 10 yards off the green on every hole could you shoot par?

That would be easy to do if we are talking about every shot vs the Par of the hole. Now, if you say you start at stroke 2 on par 3, stroke 3 par 4 and stroke 3 or 4 on a Par 5 with US Open speed greens, that is a different story.

No way you could get it up and down and shoot par from off the green. Especially if your shot was from the rough or a bunker

If by 10 yards "off the green" we are talking fairway / fringe, then yes. I didn't mention in a bunker, or in the rough. Just putt everything. Obviously the most challenging would be par 3's. Three putts would be pretty standard for the average golfer. The par 4 and 5's is where you would gain strokes. Also factoring in pin placement. If 10 yards off the green but opposite side of the flag, it could be difficult.

Rory with a horrible round and misses the cut in the Canadian Open. Not a great tune-up for the US Open.

Yes, this is Mickelson's last year playing with an exemption. He'd have to qualify in the future if he wishes to pursue a career Grand Slam. He finished 2nd in the US Open six times.
I get it, but I don't get it. Players with Phil's resume should have LIFETIME exemption. BUT with common sense. IF he is still competing, he should get in. I doubt it very much, but I wonder if Phil will maybe play some on the SR. Tour ? I wish he would, he is my favorite of all time, would like to see him play courses he can still score on. Dropping Bombs on some of those courses with his short game, it would be very entertaining. I love the fact he always played the course and challenged it. No Lay Up Phil, it cost him several tournaments, but it won him a lot more. I wish he could have got ONE US Open. Losing to Geoff Ogilvy at Winged Foot when all he need was par at the 18th and then losing to Lucas Glover at Bethpage had to sting.

At Winged Foot, he had a 1 stroke lead headed to the 18th hole. Hit driver, and went way left bouncing his drive off the hospitality tent. Bounced right off the tent and into the rough. Tree in his line, advance it out and maybe get up and down for par and the win ??? Nope, Phil tired to curve it around the tree, his ball hits the tree, 3rd shot had no reasonable chance. Greenside bunker, double bogey. Bogey would have got him in a playoff. Play it safe and win or playoff at worst, or try the unwise and end up losing with a double ?

It’s possible he could get one exemption but the running after the ball on the green and putting it while moving could factor. I’d say he deserves one.

Phil did play on Senior Tour and won 2 or 3 straight before joining LIV.

Mickelson spent a brief but very successful time on the Champions Tour after he turned 50 in 2020. He won 4 tournaments in 6 starts. In between, he became the oldest major winner (50) in May 2021 at the PGA Championship in Kiawah. Then he joined LIV in early 2022.

He ran his big mouth and went to LIV. Screw him.

Griffin has been on fire last few tournaments. Feel like you have to include him in any fantasy bets.

Thursday, June 12 (first round)

First round action tees off with one of the hottest days of the week. Forecasts call for mostly sunny skies as morning temperatures will reach around 86 degrees and stay consistent throughout the day, and it could feel hotter with the humidity making it feel around 94 degrees. Winds will be 5 to 10 mph with gusts up to 22 mph.

Friday, June 13 (second round)

The day will start relatively calm with light winds accompanying a partly sunny morning around 83 degrees. It will feel hotter as the day goes by despite clouds rolling in thanks to the humidity, making it feel around 95 degrees. Winds should continue to be calm throughout the day. There is a small chance of precipitation.

Saturday, June 14 (third round)

After the cut is made, that's when the weather could become an issue. The morning forecast calls for mostly cloudy skies with the possibility of rain, but thunderstorms could develop in the afternoon, which could suspend play. Scattered thunderstorms could continue into the night. Winds will be in the 5 to 10 mph range with gusts up to 14 mph.

Sunday, June 15 (final round)

Rain will remain a heavy possibility on championship day with showers in the morning with the chance of thunderstorms developing into the afternoon, possibly making it tough to get a full round of play in. The chance of rain is about 50%, and winds will be at 5 to 10 mph with potential gusts of 21 mph.

Edit- Believe Fox only got in because he got a top 50 exemption off the win, was not in before.

None of those missing are a surprise, past their prime, hurt or not playing well enough, nor are they missed.

Interesting to me, a pool I'm in makes you pick 3 golfers based on Rankings in Data Golf. One from each category below.

1-10
11-25
26+

3 of the top 5 come from LIV (BD, RAHM and Niemann)
only one other in top 25(Hatton) and two more in top 50 (Reed/Ortiz).

He ran his big mouth and went to LIV. Screw him.
I clearly said "Players with Phil's resume", meaning not just him, but other great players as well. Wow, clearly you are perfect and never changed anything. So you are saying you never changed jobs in your life ? If you didn't you must not have been very good at it or in the field where companies or people come after you to hire you away from your previous job, IF you are exceptional at it that is.

It’s Scottie, Bryson and everyone else. Rory seems to have taken the rest of the season off after winning the Masters. Maybe Brooks makes an appearance just because it the US Open???

It has nothing to do with me. All I am saying is Mickelson is a POS and I am glad he is not on tour anymore. I am not denigrating anyone that still likes him. To each his own.

I was a walking scorer for Jacques Kruyswijk at the Barbasol/ISCO one round. Some of the pros are standoffish, and I didn't talk to them much unless they seemed amenable. But he was a really nice guy from S Africa, told us stories about Ernie Els and Gary Player (who he referred to as "Mr. Player"). Was surprised to see his name, only won once on the DP Tour (this year though) but made it through a qualifier in England, by punching his ticket in a 6 for 3 playoff. I will be pulling for him to do well.

Ben Griffin has been as hot as anyone lately. Has the composure, driving accuracy, putting, and iron play to contend. I feel like he will be there come Sunday. I can't stand those silly aviators he wears, but I read he has eye issues and they are prescription glasses to help block out spots. He also has a little Ole Ball Coach smirk to him. Reminds me of Steve Spurrier every time he does it. He has game, very talented youngster.

Another guy as a under dog I like, Harry English. Calm, cool, and collected.
