LEXINGTON, Ky. -- With each additional game that Kentucky flirts with the century mark and launches a barrage of 3-pointers, Mark Pope knows that opponents will seek ways to try to throw the No. 8 Wildcats off their game.

Heavy underdog Georgia State brought a physical mindset to Rupp Arena and used it to hang within eight of Kentucky with just over 13 minutes remaining in the game, but when the play got a bit too rough, it was the Cats who answered the bell.

A flagrant foul absorbed by Kentucky center Amari Williams and a scuffle that led to multiple technical fouls seemed to spark the Cats, who outscored GSU 44-23 the rest of the way en route to a 105-76 victory.

"I thought it was a great night of basketball overall, all the saltiness and that whole deal," Pope said. "It was a really physical (Georgia State) team, a good team. It was their third game in four nights, a really commendable effort by them, but I thought our guys responded the right way.

"As things got a little more intense, I thought our guys really pulled together, and that's so beautiful to see that as a coach."

CBS article: SEC grades for 2024 season

Mark Stoops was this close to becoming Texas A&M's next head coach, but that didn't quite work out, so he returned to Lexington and had an utterly disappointing season that had some wondering whether he should retire. Yikes. Kentucky upset Ole Miss in late September but the Wildcats followed that up with four consecutive losses, including two to unranked teams. The offense was abysmal, ranking 119th in scoring (20.6) and the turnover margin didn't help either (109th). The 4-8 record is Stoops' worst since his first season, when he was 2-10 in 2013. Grade: F

I think we beat Gonzaga.

This was an eye opener to a few players and the coaches. They won’t wanna lose 2 in a row. There will be some urgency from the tip. Amari Williams showed down the street that he can be a force down low when his head is in the game. Players will cut harder to get open of the 3 point line in choked off. Lamont butler is quickly becoming the best player on the team and I think pope see’s now that has has to play 15 minutes a half. Krissa just simply brings nothing if the there isn’t a huge talent gap with our opponents. Pope will also see that he’s gotta get Brea more shots. He should be taking no less than 4-5 shots a half. Almonor and Otega just need to keep doing what they’re doing and start making those wide open looks again. The defense will be fine. Top 25 in fg percent defense, that’s good enough if paired with a top offense. We will be fine. Zags better come to play bc I know the cats will.

Stoops Contract?

Does anyone know the process that led to the totally lopsided Stoops Contract?

Was there any oversight? Board of Trustees review/approval? UK President review/approval?

How could Barnhardt have sold this deal to a bunch of people with suposedly UK's best interest at heart? This whole deal needs to be brought to light and wholesale changes made.
