Kenny Brooks’ Women’s Basketball Team Ranks No. 22 in Preseason Associated Press Top 25
It is the first time since Fall 2021 that UK has earned an early nod in the AP poll

LEXINGOTN, Ky. – Kenny Brooks’ women’s basketball team is ranked 22nd in the Preseason Associated Press Top 25, it was announced Tuesday.

This will mark the 11th time in the past 15 seasons that the University of Kentucky women’s basketball team has earned a preseason ranking from the AP, missing out on early nods in the falls of 2017, 2018, 2022 and 2023.

The Wildcats feature two returners in Cassidy Rowe and Saniah Tyler, and 11 newcomers, including All-American, graduate-student point guard Georgia Amoore. The Cats boast a balanced yet experienced roster, consisting of three freshmen, three sophomores, four juniors, a redshirt senior and two graduate students.

Three players, including Amoore (1,853), Dazia Lawrence (1,170) and Jordan Obi (1,142), are 1,000-point scorers, while Amelia Hassett, who played two seasons at Eastern Florida State College and was named a National Junior College Athletic Association Division I All-American in 2023-24, is close behind with 919 career points.

Obi and sophomore transfer Dominika Paurová are out indefinitely because of lower-leg injuries sustained over the summer.

Brooks also signed a couple of freshmen with lots of potential, including unanimous four-star guard Lexi Blue and 6-7 center from Portugal Clara Silva, who will tie Anna Cole (2010) as the program's tallest player on record. In November 2023, Shane Laflin from ESPN said this about Silva, “If she was a player in the U.S., she’d safely land in the top 10 in the recruiting rankings."

This is Kentucky's tallest team in program history and Brooks' tallest team in his 22 seasons as a head coach. Eight of UK's players, more than half of the team, are 6'1 or taller, including four players that are 6'3 or taller.

The Wildcats also boast one of the oldest backcourts in the country in graduate student Amoore and redshirt senior Lawrence, who are both 23-years-old. Combined, they have 217 career games, 185 career starts and three conference championships. Amoore (1,853) and Lawrence (1,170) also are 1,000-point scorers, while they’re coming off their most productive seasons yet, scoring 602- and 565-points last season, respectively.

In addition to being ranked 22nd in the preseason poll, UK also is projected as a six-seed in Charlie Creme's latest bracketology report.

So the two Ky native Freshman were the two finalists in the 3 pt comp last night

But most on this board have them at the bottom of the food chain on this team.

I think most are going to be suprised.

And before you pop off remember, this team is loaded w/3 pt makers.

These two are not #1 and #5 in the “history” of KYHS scoring for nothing; they will play for the name on the front, not the back.

See you in FF.

Season Poster...serious question

Although I did enjoy the work done by @funKYcat75 ...Is there anyway to get one of these for out of state folks? I read UKs press release, just curious if the stores will mail them. Worst case I'm sure I can fix up a printable version and hit Walgreens or somewhere like that and have a poster made. Been a fan my whole life, but had never been to a game until last year. Wife and I made the trip for the UT game and picked up a poster there. I've got a spot in my classroom (teach and coach in MO) where I hang posters of teams I've coached. I added last years poster and kind of want to make it an every year thing now. Any advice or local knowledge? TIA.

Wilcox may be the best skill position guy on the team...

Why does he continue to get 4 carries a game when he's clearly the best, most talented back on the team and probably a future NFL level guy.

We're picking JoJo over Boom here. DSK is fine but he's not what we are used to and with Wilcox is just better. Dude is avg 6YPC and has a 15+yd run in EVERY game sans Southern Miss(he had 2 carries, one for 10yds). He's laid some nice blocks on dudes this year. Dude is a stud he just needs the damn ball. Let's not screw this up...we've done enough of that this year. We have a legit stud and we aren't using him in an offense begging for anyone to make an explosive play or any play for that matter.

Always going with the safe option. Typical of this bunch.

Our defense

The numbers do not correlate with what I saw on the field. It seemed like Vanderbilt got 5 or 6 yards on first down all night long. It also seemed like they converted the times when they did have a long chain. 8-13 on third down. Both teams punted only 2 times each. Vandy was 2-2 in the Red Zone and we were 1-2. The difference in the final score. It just felt like our defense didn’t play that well when they had to.

I'm really happy with my team, though I really want Tee Higgins. And I'd love to try to squeeze Mac Jones in (he's available), but simply don't have the room.

I'm glad that football's back. Let's see your team(s)! :)
