OT -- Baseball first

They've played baseball for so long, it's hard to do something no one has ever done, but it happened today! This is strange!

WR Gilmore out for at least half the year

According to Stoops today after the scrimmage, Gilmore is out for a while. He didn’t specify the injury, but that stinks because the coaches and other players have been speaking highly of him since the spring.

If he misses half the year, i would think the coaches would hold him out all but 4 games to ensure the redshirt year while still giving him reps.

WR position is probably ok depth wise for now, but they really don’t need to lose anyone else.

Two teams

One team is your all-UK lineup you would use with a one point lead and the other team inbounding the ball with 20 seconds left.

The other is your all-UK lineup down one, inbounding the ball with 20 seconds to go.

Team 1
G Rajon Rondo
G DeAndre Liggins
F Tayshaun Prince
F Willie Cauley Stein
C Anthony Davis

Team 2
G Anthony Epps
G Aaron Harrison
F Tayshaun Prince
F Oscar Tschiebwe
C Dan Issel

Pope and Culture

I know most of us read dozens of these type of articles (this from TOS) but I was encouraged to hear Crowe’s father talk about the culture Pope is building at UK. Something I feel was lacking greatly at the end of Cal’s tenure. Win some games, produce some excitement and fun, recruit top notch talent that fits your system and establish the new culture in Year 1 and for me I’d be pleased.

Which wideout do you will make the biggest impact this season?

I’m going with Maclin. I think he is going to be a star and take some pressure off of BB and Key to do their thing.

Anyone remember the Braylon Heard introduction?

Was watching some highlights of WIlcox, and aside from Boom, his stature and size kind of reminded me of Braylon Heard.

Which reminded me of Heard's 2 carry, 120 yard, 2 TD game in his first game as a cat. It will be hard to ever beat that kind of start. Its a shame he never really took off from there. Only had 2 more TDs and 250ish yards the rest of the season. Had around 100yds receiving, too. One of the crazier things of the Stoops era. Along with his decision to leave early to go pro.

My favorite word, MOMENTUM, sure seems to be on our side with UK Sports.

Man, it feels great!

- Pope & Co. redefining UK Basketball in their analytics driven system and recruiting magnificently to that system.

- UK Football with a talent laden roster and a defense that could be one for our history books.

- Kenny Brooks reshaping UK Hoops with talent and serious charisma. And Memorial looks unbelievable.

- UK Baseball with a dream season and things looks fantastic for the future.

Just a lot of excitement and momentum behind our programs.

Cheers all,
KB

Kentucky Volleyball Slotted Ninth in Initial 2024 AVCA Rankings

Wildcats one of six SEC teams ranked to start the season

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky Volleyball team will begin the season ranked No. 9 in the initial poll of the American Volleyball Coaches’ Association top-25 poll, it was announced Monday morning.

The Wildcats are one of six Southeastern Conference teams ranked inside the top 25 to start the season, which is the most on record since at least the 1982 season. Kentucky is the second-highest ranked SEC team, sitting behind Texas, who was ranked No. 1 by the coaches, coming off the heels of back-to-back NCAA National Championships.

Kentucky made the NCAA Regional Semifinals a season ago, and returns several key pieces to its team for 2024 including SEC Freshman of the Year, Brooklyn DeLeye, All-American, Emma Grome, and former SEC Libero of the Year, Eleanor Beavin. The Wildcats are now ranked inside the top-10 of the AVCA rankings for the fourth time in the last five preseason polls dating back to 2020.

Kentucky is currently schedule to play 11 matches against 10 AVCA ranked teams, including six games against current top-10 teams (Nebraska, Stanford, Louisville, Penn State, Purdue and Texas).

Strengths, weaknesses, newcomers and surprises

I’ve been out of the UK football loop for a bit dealing with work and life but now we’re officially one week from kickoff and I’d like to get some idea of what to expect from the Cats this year.

What position group do you think is the strength of this squad?

What group is projected to be the weakest?

Outside of Vandagriff, which newcomer is going to make the biggest impact right out of the gate?

And who would you predict is going to surprise people that have not been closely following the recruiting and off season developments? This can be an incoming freshman or a player that was on the team last year but played sparingly.

Thanks for your replies and GBB!
