Tax Policy

My sister is a CPA who does income tax returns for high net worth individuals. She will tell you that tax policy is still slanted toward the wealthy. As one example, a few years ago it was reported that Bob Simpson (founder of XTO Energy/current owner of Texas Rangers) was paid a total yearly compensation package of $56 million. Of that $56 million, $55.5 million was deferred compensation in the form of company stock, for which he paid $0 in tax. In essense, he was allowed to put 99% of his income into a 401k, while the rest of us can only put 15% per year into a 401k. He will never pay taxes on that money until he sells the investments, likely when his great, great grandson goes on a cocaine binge sometime in the future.

Just rewatched game...

Our DB's played excellent games, had major stops to prevent 1'st downs and keep Ole Miss behind the chains.

Bryant huge stop and hit on final drive, Weaver (aggressive all game) also with a great pursuit play that cost them 4 yard lose.

Hardaway, Lovitt( big time stop late short of 1st down) Waller and Nichols played great games keeping things in front of them and making huge tackles.

Brad White

UK's D is being widely praised and Brad White is receiving major props. A reminder that White is actually Co-DC with CB coach Chris Collins, whose contract was extended and was given a promotion in the off season. I would anticipate, however, that people will be coming after White very soon. Doesn't mean UK will lose him, he's said to be most happy at UK, but come Dec I expect people to start throwing money at him.

Overturned Pick 6

I think they blew this call by the rules. There are a few things at play including the ball touching the ground, when something is ruled a catch, and when it would be ruled incomplete.

Touching the ground: The ball can touch the ground as long as the receiver maintains control of the ball when it touches the ground. This absolutely happened on that play. The ball hitting the ground absolutely did not cause the ball to dislodge.

Ruling something a catch: The receiver is not down and something is not ruled a catch until / unless he maintains control of the catch through his own body hitting the ground. That did not happen here, so the receiver could not be considered down after making a catch.

In this case, the receiver controlled the ball while the ball was touching the ground. From my view, he actually pulled the ball off of the ground for a split second before his shoulder hit the ground. At this point, it was still a potential catch and a live play with the ball no longer touching the ground. Then his shoulder hit the ground, which is what caused the ball to dislodge from his hands. There is a lot happening back to back on the play, but I hate that this was overturned with indisputable evidence, because I don't think that existed at all on the play.
