Thinking about the offense

Let me first say that I'm an admitted football novice, I know enough to understand what's going on but no clue on blocking assignments etc. Given that to me it all comes down to line play, I'm not sure how you can assess the TE, RB, WR, QB, or the OC with how bad the line has been.

Please correct me if I'm wrong about this but poor line play just filters through the other position groups.

Tightends were forced to stay in and help the line protect which means they had limited opportunities to be targeted in the passing game.

Same for the running backs, DSK's strength is catching ball out of the backfield and he was basically an extra offensive lineman on passing downs.

Wide receivers and BVG, when you have 3 guys in a route and 7 guys in coverage it makes for a difficult environment. Teams could pressure us without blitzing.

Bush may be a complete moron, I have no idea but I'm not sure how you can judge him based on this season. Admittedly, I could be way off but I would love to hear from you football guys.

We were right about cal, we’re right about Stoops

We’re not just some group of fans who are entitled or have unrealistic expectations. We’re smart enough to know what’s happening and realize we’ve seen this movie before. We know when someone has peaked and when there is a downward trajectory.

Treating us like we’re idiots is even worse now. Wishful thinking… I’ll have my butt in the office tomorrow… now Vince telling us Jager is a good Olinemen and only taking 3 from the portal. Telling us there is massive change coming, but keeping the same exact staff. Don’t treat us stupid… we may not be able to spell, but we know UK sports.

We wanted you to leave so we can still appreciate what you did for us. You’ve gone too far. Now you’re really turning us against you, the staff, and this will end like Cal. We will despise you.

We are an offensive juggernaut

Bored and just stat browsing.

1st in scoring at 96.7 ppg.

the gap between us and 2nd place(Penn State at 91.9) is bigger than the gap between 2nd and 13th.

7th in 2pt %
9th in Efg%
7th in true shooting percentage
2nd in assists per game
3rd in a/to ratio

17th in defensive efficiency
10th in opp 3pt %

I’ll say this, we’ve now gone 3 years in a row with poor play at the safety postion. It’s gotten progressively worse and this year was abysmal. Out of positon. Bad angles. Lack of eye discipline. Just a complete reversal of what we saw earlier in the Stoops era.

As for corner, Hairston was really good when healthy, but they didn’t have a single guy emerge that was capable of being a true #2 corner in the SEC. JQ Hardaway ain’t it. Jantzen Dunn ain’t it. DJ Waller still at da club. T. Nichols had his moments. This spot looks problematic once again next Fall with Hairston headed to the draft.

Anybody else feel hopeless for a program we love so much.

Man these last 6-8 weeks have been about as painful as it gets for a sports fan.

Each day we wake up to coaches trying to bolt(accept the ones we need to). UL beat us senseless and we literally have YEARS before we would even entertain buying him out.

This is about as low as I have been when it comes to UK football since the 90’s.

FB Recruiting Offensive Line in focus

The offensive line is priority 1, 2, and 3 for the program going into the offseason.

Previously, I had said that UK would likely be taking a much harder look at some Group of Five offensive linemen. I believe they will definitely look at that route, but I am also hearing they are very serious about some power conference linemen who are out there.

The word that I've gotten is that Kentucky has evaluated games for every single program in the country over the past month or so and they have a very good idea of who they are going to target, should they go into the portal. I hope to have more on that in time.

People will have their own opinions on this, but I do believe that the offensive line was the source of a lot of the worst struggles this year. Some of the sacks were on the quarterback, some were on the tight ends, some were on running backs, some on receivers at times, but no question the line has to get a lot better and it has to get a lot better right away.

I am hearing that following the decommitment of Tucker Kattus the Wildcats are not going to pursue another high school lineman in the 2025 class. I think Kattus can be a solid player at the college level but he was not one of the more hotly recruited prospects in UK's class.

Have been in touch with UK's other commitments up front and they seem to be solid.

I am now expecting Kentucky to sign one more portal lineman than I originally anticipated.

My honest opinion is the line performed exactly as you probably should have expected going into the season. Marques Cox didn't have a good year after a solid season last year. Eli Cox was solid. Jalen Farmer did some good things. But beyond there, there simply has not been close to enough SEC caliber talent among the top eight OL on the roster. I don't see how anybody could disagree with that. The problem is the talent. It has not been an SEC room talent-wise, and there is legitimate blame to go around for that. They got nothing from Courtland Ford or Gerald Mincey.

My belief is Kentucky is going to allocate a whole lot more resources towards fixing the offensive line as everyone I have spoken with believes they have to "know what they're getting" more and the only way to do that nowadays is to outrecruit and outbid other schools for proven or obviously talented offensive linemen. I think the bar for what you hope for should be pretty high re: offensive line in the portal because they have to get it right this year and it won't be easy.
