Next year

Watching this years' team and their struggles at times....are we improving things with next year's roster?

PG...Losing Butler who is our best/2nd best player. Are we doing Portal/Acaden Lewis? Or Acaden Lewis/Perry? I'd hope we add portal guy with Lewis
SG...Hope Oweh is back...and losing Brea. Are we going Oweh/Jasper? or is portal player in the mix
SF....Losing Jaxon....so I'm assuming bigtime portal with Chandler/Noah as depth.
PF...Losing Carr/Almonsor...assume we get Caleb Wilson...and assume we get portal.
C....Losing Amari...but looks like Garrison/Moreno

As that roster takes shape...

- I think we need more shooting via portal on the wing/SG for sure. Our inability to shoot when teams go under ball screens outside of Brea is hurting the offense at times.
- I worry if Garrison is ready for prime time as Moreno will need time to get bigger
- We need more strength inside.....will next year hit the boards better

LOUISVILLE Ky. – The University of Kentucky Track and Field team brought the heat to a snowy Friday afternoon at the 30th Annual Rod McCravy Memorial Invitational at the Norton Healthcare Sports and Learning Center in Louisville, winning five events, breaking two school records, and setting one new freshman record.

Sophomore Kate Powers set the tone on the Wildcats’ opening day of the McCravy, breaking a ten-year-old school record in the Women’s Weight Throw to claim Kentucky’s first victory at its home invitational. Powers—who previously set the school’s second best mark in December—launched her opening throw 21.64m/71-0.00 to gain a lead she would never relinquish. Powers’ throw topped Beckie Famurewa’s 2015 mark of 21.61m/70-10.75 that was set at the 2015 McCravy in Lexington.

Freshman Sharmelle Holmes was the next Wildcat to rewrite the record book, taking down Abby Steiner’s Freshman Record in the Women’s 60m dash. Holmes ran a preliminary time of 7.29 seconds to win her heat—and set the top time in the first round of competition—and automatically advance to tomorrow’s semifinal. Holmes also led the Cats in the 200m, finishing third in a personal best time of 23.96 seconds.

Holmes was not the only Wildcat to take the top qualifying spot in the 60, as sophomore Miles Jones continued his winning ways to start the 2025 season. Jones blazed to the top prelim time of 6.71 seconds to lead five Wildcats who automatically qualified to tomorrow's semifinal.

Sophomore Cha’iel Johnson was the final Wildcat to etch her name into Kentucky history, winning the 600m in a school record time of 1:32.15, besting her previous mark from December’s Louisville Opener.

In the 300m, sophomore Oneika McAnnuff picked up her first victory of the season in comfortable fashion, winning the event in a personal best time of 37.48, a time good enough for fifth all-time at Kentucky. Teammate Hannah Douglas was not far off of McAnnuff, placing second in a personal best time of 37.55 that moves her to sixth all-time at Kentucky.

Shavique Bascus picked up the final individual win of the day—and the first for the men’s team—by cruising to victory in the Men’s 200m. Bascus’ time of 21.28 won Section 1 and stood as the top mark over 12 heats.

In the Women’s Pole Vault, senior Payton Phillips did not pick up the win, but did finish as the competition’s top collegian. The All-American ended up in second place with a top jump of 4.25m/13-11.25.

To close out the first day of competition in the Derby City, Kentucky got its first relay win of the season from the Women’s Distance Medley Relay squad. The team of Julz Williams, Cha’iel Johnson, Lyric Olson, and Mollie Roden finished the race in a winning time of 11:36.82. The Wildcats were in second at the first exchange following Williams’ 1200m leg, but a stellar 400m leg from Johnson pushed Kentucky in front after two racers. Olson held the Wildcat advantage over 800m despite a strong surge from Ohio State, giving Mollie Roden a lead for her 1600m leg that she would not only keep, but expand upon to push the Cats to a win.

Kentucky’s lone home meet of the indoor season, the McCravy will continue on Saturday with field action beginning at 11 a.m. ET and track events starting at Noon ET.

How to beat Kentucky strategy

Against UGA our outside shooting was no bueno. ..at 24%…

Against Clemson was 25.9% and another loss…

Against Ohio State you guessed it…another horrendous 3 pts shooting 18% and another L.

It looks like, some coaches figured out that chasing us on the perimeter and slowing the pace of the game are keys to win against Kentucky.

It’s interesting that these are teams that are not necessarily spectacular offensively but they figure out that their offense is better than our defense and if they make us in 2 point shooting team we are done.

Our big wins come against teams that thought that can outscore us : Duke, Gonzaga, Florida….

Meanwhile , Duke changed its philosophy and are putting emphasis on defense and are more balanced now.

Florida ‘s coach after the loss on Saturday, mentioned that his strategy was wrong allowing us to score from outside, but that will be an easy fix if they would play us again in the Sec tournament . He also mentioned that other coaches in Sec will try that strategy against us and expose us. It seems that uga Coach just did that.

Considering our inability to stop basket penetration or rebound, or that our guys don’t seem to like driving to the basket and actually make the bunnies , Coach Pope has a game strategy issue on his hands …. Will he be able to figured it so we are become a more balanced team , being able to win games in other ways than out scoring teams from 3?

What do you say?

Moon Boots

Did you have Moon Boots back in the 70s or 80s? I really believe those were the best for snow. So light and warm. I still have mine. But, they are far more expensive now.

What's the Biggest Brawl in UK Basketball History?

The biggest fight I can remember in UK Basketball History is when Riddick choked Rasheed Wallace from UNCheats in the '95 Tournament. Riddick was responding to a brutal elbow to the jaw thrown by Wallace. I don't think anyone on either team left the bench and the fight got broken up quickly, but the refs somehow mistook Walter McCarty for Riddick and gave Walter the technical. It was an odd start to a disappointing game, but I think it lit the fire that helped propel us to the '96 title. Are there any bigger brawls in UK Basketball History that I can't remember?

NFL Post Season Gambling Thread

Chargers / Texans over 42

Herbert over 1.5 TD's passing

John Metchie (Texans) 2+ receptions. No Tank Dell, no Stephon Diggs. Metchie is the #2 WR.

Robert Woods (Texans) over 9.5 receiving yards. Last 4 weeks since injuries to WR's, he has had games of 39,21,19,12 yards.

Ladd McConkey over 5 receptions. Target machine, Has 82 receptions on the year. Had below 5 once on 11/10/24. Before that, had 4 v/s Denver on 10/13/24. Only 3 times all year did he have below 5 receptions in a game. Weeks 2/3/5. Early in the year.

Ravens -9.5 v/s Steelers (Wheels have fallen off for the Steelers)

Steelers / Ravens over 44 - Every Ravens game but 3 have gone over the 44 points (@ Steelers 18-16) (Eagles 24-19 by 1 point) (@ Houston 31-2) Two of them was losses @ Steelers / Eagles. The other Houston could only score a safety. Ravens beat the Steelers on 12/21 34-17. That type of score is about what I am expecting, Ravens are not losing and Steelers will score more than 2 points.

Rashod Bateman over 41 receiving yards. With Flowers out, he will be the #1 WR target for Lamar. As the #2 he had 756 yards for the year. have 5 catches for 78 yards last week v/s Cleveland, he should have no problem getting over 41 today.

Van Jefferson (Steelers) over 9.5 receiving yards. In 12 games, he has 24 receptions for 276 yards. Has had games of 18,27,10,43,39,62,15,26,21,14.

Calvin Austin (Steelers) 2+ receptions. Steelers #2 WR, he is usually good for 2/3 receptions per game. In 8 games started (he is listed as #2 WR), he has 36 receptions for 536 yards. Too low, ravens pass defense, not good. Also, Steelers will be playing catch up most of the game.
