The Offense

“When we get right, we actually really, really punish teams for pressuring. And that’s just, it’s going to be a growth phase for us to understand what that looks like and what it means. We don’t quite have that feel. We never got a late cut. We didn’t get over back door. We didn’t really work the second side well. We were kind of dying in the corner and would get to a second lift and then be dying in the corner on the rotation. There is so much more in the tank for our guys to feel out and it’s just a matter of getting the reps to do it, getting the reps to do it.” - Coach Pope after the WKU game
However, This offense is just in its infancy. The movement to get open 3 point shots has been successful. We have only seen glimpses of the cutting action that occurs when defenses sell out to pressure the 3 point shooters. The back doors and late cuts will be seen more as our guys begin to master the offense. Also watch when our guy either dribbles off the high pick (Amari or BG) or receives a pass from the post as they are cutting to the basket. BYU would have a shooter in either corner to occupy 2 defenders. They have to make a decision - stay with their man and give up a layup or help and leave the 3 point shooters open. As CMP said, we need more reps both in practice and the games as we are still in the growth phase. Fellow fans, we have a Coach and coaching staff that I feel is 2nd to none!

Why?

The football program at UK, and probably most schools, is almost as large as all the other athletic programs put together. It would seem obvious that the football program should have it's on Athletic Director, seperate from the other programs. Now with NIL it's even more important that UK, in my opinion, should have such a person. It would be a great help to have a football AD whose entire focus was on coaches and their contracts, NIL funding and decisions regarding payments to athletes, marketing, football facility needs, etc. I don't believe any restrictions against doing this exist - so why not? A football AD position would be much more aware of the needs of that program and what should be expected from it and hold coaches accountable to it! Where will the money come from for the position - the money he raises for the program and SEC funding.

Go Big Blue!

Kentucky should make North Carolina an offer they can't refuse

Waive Mark Stoops buyout clause plus offer to pay $3 million a year for first 5 years of his tenure as coach! Everyone would win here - as North Carolina could continue to pay same salary as Brown was getting. Stoops continues to get his big fat contract and be at a school where he could win Championships and maybe UK could hire that certain UK Alumnus as head coach!

Go Big Blue!

Clara Strack & UKWBB

I just finished watching the UKWBB play against ASU and IL, and I started to wonder something about this team.

I hate to heap any expectation but just like the Pope and the men team as they continue to jell their stock is a rising one...

Observations:

1. I feel like they are as equally dominate on the defense and so balanced on the offense that they may honestly be a better BB team than the 2012 Men's Championship squad. Am I crazy or does anyone that follow WBB closely agree?
2. I never watch Valerie Still but witnessed Rhyne Howard but is Clara Strack not just the best female BB players in UK history but she may be 1 of the best BB players in UK history, period. Again, am I crazy? @Jeff Drummond
3. Is the UKWBB team the best defensive BB team in UK history?
4. Does anyone anyone else get the JP Blevins, Richie Farmer with a hint of Tyler Ulis grit, fight and desire vibe from Cassidy Rowe?
5. Georgia Amoore is like a bumblebee to me in that physically should doesn't look like she should be able to be as good as she is. :) Her BB IQ has to be out the roof! She just defies odds to me as I watch how effortlessly she operates defensively and offensively.
6. Strack & Silva (aka the 2 Claras) - have they not deserved the twin towers moniker? But honestly with Key and Hassett they should be the quad towers or something. They make the paint impenetrable.
7. How much better would this team have been with Obi (can she get a medical redshirt?) & Paurova?
8. Is it too soon, to think that UKWBB could be earning their fist championship next season? We only lose Amoore and Lawerence and possibly Strack if she leaves early but have a nice start on next years class with a 5* recruit.

March is going to be an outstanding time to be a Wildcat fan for sure!!

What SEC team scares you most?

Now that we've seen some good games... With a loaded SEC, what team scares you most? For me, it's easily Auburn. In fact, from what I've seen (which isn't close to everything) Auburn is the only team that seems to outmatch Kentucky. That team brings so much frenetic energy and effort. They also have six guys scoring in double figures. Sure, Alabama and Tennessee can beat Kentucky, but Auburn scares me.

As Much As I Like This Kentucky Team...

After watching the last 3 days and nights of basketball, it is glaringly obvious that Kentucky will have to bring in more athletic players and Pope is clearly doing that. The teams that are winning are not just good shooters, but they are crazy athletic. They are fast, quick, leapers, and defensive juggernauts. This is going to be a very interesting season with lots more surprises to come.
