Wildcats Post Three School Records at Stanford Invitational
Today marks the second time the Cats have broken three school records in 2025

TUCSON, Ariz. and PALO ALTO, Calif. – In the third split weekend of the track and field season, and the first during the outdoor portion of the schedule, the Kentucky Wildcats began competition at the Jim Click Shootout Invite and Stanford Invitational today in Tucson, Ariz. and Palo Alto, Calif.

Three program records fell at the Cobb Track and Angell Field in Stanford, as freshman Collins Kiprop Kipngok first broke the men’s 3000m steeplechase record by finishing second with an 8:22.67 time, beating out the previous record by nearly 20 seconds. This features as the fourth record-breaking finish of Kipngok’s first year with the Wildcats, previously breaking the program mile, 1500m and 3000m freshman records during the indoor season.

Janet Jepkemboi Amimo later broke the Kentucky school record in the women’s 1500m event, posting a 4:13.58 time and placing atop the leaderboard. Jepkemboi Amimo continued her record-breaking freshman campaign with her second school record of 2025, previously breaking the Kentucky 800m indoor record back in February.

Ed Bird closed out the lone day in Palo Alto for the Cats with a program record finish in the men’s 5000m final with a 13:39.28 mark.

Other notable finishes for the Wildcats included Miles Jones winning the men’s long jump final in Tucson with a personal-best 7.44m mark and Payton Phillips and Annie Murphy placing second and fourth, respectively, in the women’s pole vault event. Four additional top 10 program performance entries were added to the Kentucky track and field record books at the Stanford Invite on Friday, including Jack Pendergast (M 10000m), Noel Barlette (W 3000m Steeplechase), Jackson Watts (M 3000m Steeplechase) and Ally Kruger (W 5000m).

The Wildcats’ run at the Stanford Invitational concluded after today’s events. Tomorrow, the Jim Click Shootout Invite will continue with the second day of competition from Tucson, Ariz., opening with Julia Gunnell competing in the penultimate event of the women’s heptathlon at 11:00 a.m. EST.

New AD

I know Pope is taking his his lumps right now, hard to argue. Surely, we all are rooting for best case and Pope’s landing the roster build as best possible.

I have a real issue with Barnhart and as needed, Capaluto.

We need a serious AD for these times. Barnhart was brought on in a much different time with a much different agenda.

Now we are held prisoner to it imo.

High road and compliance are priorities of yesterday.

Go get someone who can get us turned around in any/all of the booster, ncaa, officiating, media game. That’s where Tobacco Road wins. That’s where CM Newton won.

I don’t want to live in that world, but I feel strongly we need someone to expertly win in that world….

Serious note

My friends, I live about 16 miles east of Hopkinsville KY. If you haven't seen the news they have been pummeled with flooding. Also Dawson Springs which has been repeatedly damaged by tornados and high winds over the last three years is now apparently halfway under water.
Asking for prayers and/ or best thoughts for all these folks.
Keep it real and stay safe my friends.

Positivity Time: Reacquaint yourselves with Kam Williams-

This is one helluva addition. Young, long, athletic, talented shooter that can flat-out play.

Put him with some other dudes (especially a PG that can drive and dish) that can play and he’ll blossom.

Just need a few more pieces especially my fav PF. We’re building something really good here. Just hang on.

Here is what I THINK happens from here...

Not that anyone probably cares but here is my guess.

I think we already have Mackenzie Mgbako committed with an expectation that he will come off the bench at the 4 spot.

I think the staff is holding off on the announcement to not scare away Alvaro.

I think their dream scenario at the 4 right now is Alvaro/Mgbako.

I think we go after one more perimeter guy (a guy like Pierre if we want another playmaker/shot creator, or a 3&D guy, maybe Diabate but he's not a prolific shooter by any means.) Let's call this player "Portal A". Btw I hope it's Pierre. Hope we don't back away from him now that we have Lowe.

And then I think we still hunt for a rim protector. Let's call this player "Portal B"

So I think we are looking at (starters in bold):

PG: Lowe/Lewis/Perry
SG: Oweh/Jasper/Chandler
SF: (Portal A)/Kam Williams/Chandler/Noah
PF: Alvaro/Mgbako/Kam Williams (stretch 4 if needed)
C: Moreno/Garrison/(Portal B)

Yes I think Moreno starts, maybe not day 1 but I like his upside more than Garrison right now.

That would be 13 of our 15 scholarships used, and maybe we take a flyer on one more development piece just for the fun of it, hang onto one in case a recluse comes up this summer.
