I think it’s worth pointing out that 20 teams are currently projected to win 2 tournament games or better. Obviously only 16 can actually accomplish this.

45 teams are currently projected to win 1+ tournament games. Again, only 32 can pull this off.

What this basically means is that at least at this point in the season, there is a lot more strength at the top of college basketball than in recent seasons.

Will be interesting to see how this plays out once we get into conference play and quality meets quality. May have more effects like we saw last night, with 2 good teams pulling each other down.

For the record, no team has won the tournament in the years I’ve been modeling that wasn’t at least a 2 entering the tournament.

Those two late Gonzaga threes in OT......

........first one with about 2 min left- Nembhart goes to shoot, loses the ball, then punches it to a teammate (could have been a travel as he was first to touch it?)- then gets the ball back and buries a three. Ouch.

2nd one- Hickman has Brea literally draped all over him- the only other thing Brea could have done was foul him- and he drains it. DAGGER.

Our 7 point OT lead was essentially gone, and we could have folded. But our guys kept fighting!

Probably accurate; CBS Predicts UK Will Be #4 In Tomorrow's AP Poll

One never knows for sure, but looking ahead, there should be little change over the next 2 weeks or so:

Sumrall staying put

Thought everyone on here would be happy to hear this. I’d Imagine this is because of his ideal win now: playoff potential at Tulane, coupled with the possibility of his alma Mater opening up next year.

Unrelated: I think next year might be stoops last regardless, if he gets us to 8-4 or 7-5 he will take another job (Iowa open?). If we suck again, why get into such nastiness.

For Old-Timers; Was that Dale Brown's 'Ameba' Defense in 2nd Half?

I know Dale Brown at LSU used to run a defense he called 'ameba'. It started as a zone look and either stayed zone or morphed into man depending on which side the offense made the first pass. I believe what Pope was doing was something similar to that. I know sometimes he stayed zone the whole possession, but most times it changed to man. I wasn't sure what the trigger was? Some of you old time X and O guys weigh in.

* Editor's note *
From The Murray Ledger & Times 3-26-2019:

Rupp’s hatred for the zone defense was legendary. It was bad for the game, he said. But in 1964, he used a scrambling 1-3-1 zone effectively to dismantle Tennessee 66-57. After the game, the Baron denied it was a zone. “That was no zone,” chided Rupp. “that was a stratified, transitional, hyperbolic paraboloid.”

Portal Rankings

Looking at 247 their current portal ranking is not a great look for UK. They have the following:

#4 Dane Key
#9 Barion Brown
#21 Keeshawn Silver

Those rankings will change a lot over the next few weeks but as of right now UK and Nebraska are the only schools with 2 guys in the top 10 transferring out and UK is the only school with 3 guys in the top 25.

I know there have been some mixed feelings on here about those guys but that is some serious talent leaving. Granted we were 4-8 this year but still.
