Watching that game last night showed us a lot about this team
1) Pope is a heck of a coach and will make adjustments as needed at halftime
2) this team has no quit in them. When we made a run at the start of the second half and then they pushed it back out to 8-10 points teams in recent past would have folded like a cheap lawn chair and laid down
3) while we may not have a Lottery pick type susperstar we have a team of good to great college players. Anyone of them can make the big play. Oweh came up big several times, Carr had some big time buckets mixed in with a few mistakes. If you told me Robinson and Brea combine for 9 points i would have guessed, we take the loss
4)What it feels like to be on the winning side when the other team supposedly has the "more talented roster". Weve been on the wrong side of that outcome too many times. But it seems experience and heart overcome outright talent more often then not.
People all of the world, me included, were not overly thrilled when pope was announced as the new coach. Things were said like he doesnt have enough experience, he wont be able to recruit, he will get out classed by the bigger programs etc. But last night was just further proof that we could not have hired any one better for the job. He gets it. he knows what it means to the fans and he has so far figured out how to pass that along and get his players to understand it.
Its gonna be a fun season guys. The joy of watching Kentucky basketball is back.
