Things we learned last night

Watching that game last night showed us a lot about this team

1) Pope is a heck of a coach and will make adjustments as needed at halftime
2) this team has no quit in them. When we made a run at the start of the second half and then they pushed it back out to 8-10 points teams in recent past would have folded like a cheap lawn chair and laid down
3) while we may not have a Lottery pick type susperstar we have a team of good to great college players. Anyone of them can make the big play. Oweh came up big several times, Carr had some big time buckets mixed in with a few mistakes. If you told me Robinson and Brea combine for 9 points i would have guessed, we take the loss
4)What it feels like to be on the winning side when the other team supposedly has the "more talented roster". Weve been on the wrong side of that outcome too many times. But it seems experience and heart overcome outright talent more often then not.

People all of the world, me included, were not overly thrilled when pope was announced as the new coach. Things were said like he doesnt have enough experience, he wont be able to recruit, he will get out classed by the bigger programs etc. But last night was just further proof that we could not have hired any one better for the job. He gets it. he knows what it means to the fans and he has so far figured out how to pass that along and get his players to understand it.

Its gonna be a fun season guys. The joy of watching Kentucky basketball is back.

Hay I Like My Team!!!!

I've liked this team a whole bunch since Pope was named and the roster finalized. While I'm not delusional enough to think we're not going to lose some games (and some of them might be bad losses), I think we're a bit of a monster waking up due to the individual defensive ability combined with good shooters and a great offensive strategy.

Whoopi Goldberg knows how Americans are struggling

No one here has thought about Whoopi Goldberg in 25 years because we're all guys over 40 but since this thread exists...anyone wanna let us know how Malcolm-Jamal Warner and Alicia Silverstone feel about life as well?
False. You weren't here for EB&D's stupid lookalike threads. Every black guy with dreads was said to look like Whoopi Goldberg for at least a decade here.

Second half adjustments.

We made some slight adjustments, but we also settled down a bit and stopped rushing everything. Also, we're clearly in better shape or at least deeper than Duke and we wore them out. A lot of that has to do with how hard teams have to work against Butler and Oweh and even Williams. I think the big adjustment was not letting them get into the lane and also we zoned a bit.

Second half adjustments.

Carr to the 5; pulling big man out and driving, opened up the game

We starting driving hard to the basket, didn’t just settle for three

Forced them to take some longer shots and stopped their penetration, luckily they weren’t hitting three

Did not pkay Chandler. That was a good decisikn

Played BG more and Sat Williams more in second half of second half - the mobility and athleticism helped in defense big time

Folks, it’s going to be a loooonnnggg season…

I'm taking it for what it is.

I think most felt we were ranked a bit on a low side coming into the season. That was a massive win. That Duke team isn't going to lose many games this season, they are good. It was huge for seeding purposes and the type of big win we haven't been getting early in seasons in previous history.

We have some potential. That being said, there's definitely quite a bit of things Pope and the team need to work on before we could go on any big run here. For a large part of that game, Duke was getting whatever they wanted inside on offense. If they don't go 4 for 23 from three this game, we lose. Experience was a huge reason why we won this. Our guys executed down the stretch and Flagg for however great he is, did not.

But it was definitely a huge win and hopefully a springboard for what is to come.
If Dook hadn’t just committed ONE turnover in the first half we’d have won even bigger.

This prick

With all the excuses, many we heard from ourselves about the annual losses we took lately, wonder why folks like these Duke writers don't compare player salaries and see if they got their moneys worth?
I know our guys get NIL as well, but if you're getting paid like we do in the real world, then there has to be a "ROI".
Sorry, it just pisses me off when teams win and others can not give them their due.
Down 9 at the half and came out fighting hard. Your cramps are on you; period.
Maybe our shooters had a better night.
We hit 6 more threes and people act like we hit 30 more.
Give our players some credit.
Give our coaches and trainers some credit.
We won and got NOTHING from Robinson. The season looks bright!

Folks, it’s going to be a loooonnnggg season…

And if my aunt had balls, she’d be my uncle. Your 4-23 comment is absurd, give credit to UKs defense, close outs, schemes, etc. oh and also if we’d hit more 3’s we’d still won.

We hit 40% from 3. That's not awful at all. We basically hit our average.

It's not absurd. 3s are more random than twos. Almost every upset in college basketball, one just has to look at why the upset occurs and it's almost always because of the discrepancy in 3s. They missed a bunch of open shots they normally knocked down coming into the game.

There's nothing wrong with celebrating a win while also acknowledging things that need worked on to be better in the future.
