Out of 10 Made…

…3 pointers Brea and Jackson only made 2 combined. So for people saying if Duke had only hit more 3s….chew on that fact
That is a very good point, but we hit 40% as a team 10-25. Might be unrealistic to shoot much better than that every night.
Still, though, I understand your point and it makes you think what can be possible. GO CATS !!

The halftime adjustments, especially defensively, were breathtaking. After giving up 46 in the first half, we held them to 26 in the second. After our early first half burst (5-5 from 3) it felt like we were just holding on for dear life. Partially because of the fouls being called but mostly Duke was just defending us really well. The team came out of halftime looking like there was no way that they were going to get punked by these young ones. The whole second half I kept thinking just keep within striking distance and pounce in crunch time.

Box Score Thoughts

Carr is going to be in our top 3 players every night. He's very consistent. He won't often have stats that jump out until you look at how balanced they are.

I still like our assists to turnovers. That shows we are playing within a well designed system.

Obviously, our 3 point shooting was really good, but not great.

The rebounding was serviceable.

The stat that doesn't show up much in the box score is that we flat wore them down.
How is that possible because all I heard from the ESPN talking heads all night long was how deep that Duke was.

High Post - Carr

Our guards had big time trouble initiating the offense last night. To be expected when you don't have a super dynamic, attacking guard. i loved the adjustment, particularly late in the game of getting the ball to carr in the high post and letting him go to work. He scored, made great passes, and really controlled the game.

Credit to Pope. High flying threes with tons of motion is fun. But sometimes you've just got to let a guy go to work.

Anyone else having trouble…

Coming back to earth?

I swear I’m still on this incredible high from last night. Not drink or drug induced…just the total blissfulness of the Cats victory over Duke.

It was also a great family bonding time. My son and I were dancing, hugging, fist bumping, and screaming (yes, even at 55 I went apeshit crazy).

It’s amazing what the Big Blue can do to you. I love it.

Final Grades …. What Are Yours ???

There were many great adjustments in that game. One that hit me this morning while watching Sportscenter was that Williams was guarding Flagg on that last play where he dribbled it out of bounds. A 7 footer with quickness and shot blocking ability guarding the guy you know is taking the last shot.
Yes. It was fabulous defense by Williams at his height, reminded me of Willie Cauley-Stein.
Amari did a lockdown job on Flagg, no question.
He was who needed to be guarding him at the end and his defensive reputation showed.
Amazing testament to how good Flagg is right now, for him to have the ball at crunch time.
He is five (5) years younger than Williams and it showed at the end. Williams rattled and suffocated him. A man against a boy ...
Williams 01/28/02 ... will turn 23 in January
Flagg 12/21/06 ... will turn 18 next month
GO CATS !!!
