A buddy of mine sent me this as a reminder of our conversation 15-20 years ago. Thought a few people here might value it.
Moved to Atlanta in '76. Had met a 'Georgia Peach' the year before on a business trip there. When I moved there I went to church with her at her parent's church. Got married in that church. Was there till the mid-80s. Small Independent Methodist church. Very conservative.
Larry was a member. Heck of a nice guy.

Assuming we handle South Carolina in Ky; would a win over #1 Georgia be the biggest in program history?

How long has it been since UGA lost a regular season game? Would be huge but it’s a pipe dream.

That said, if we beat USC I will have myself convinced that we have a chance!
Because we do!
We are easily a top 20 team right now
Game is in Kentucky
We have a revenge factor times 14
We have a 5 star former UGA QB and a stud former Georgia LB
We start nothing but Seniors and Juniors
Georgia lost several to the NFL last yr
They have no dominant offense player as in yrs past
This is the best UK team in 45 plus yr. (Circa 1977) and may be the best ever!
We have AAs on the O and the D.
We have the winningest HC in UK history
Georgia will come in #1 and haughty and no place to go but down!

I’m sure that doesn’t take inflation into account. Where Nicholas 5.7M probably worth >20M now.

But yeah it’s true across all sports. TV revenue has blown up, at the same some the % athletes get has increased. I remember I think in the 80’s when top sports stars first started getting million dollar contracts. I think I’ve read where many players in the 50’s had off-season jobs. Could you imagine now LeBron or Scheffler pulling into your driveway to try and sell you insurance during off-season.
Pretty sure I recall reading that 1 of the Baltimore Colts starters quit after the 1958 NFL championship and became a Baltimore police officer. :D

GYERO

wcc got me all in the feels today. As a “Chicago guy” already and longtime Pearl Jam fan also…shewee.

Related note, one of my and lass’ regrets is also not going there to live a few years in our mid-late 20’s and pre-kids. We were such regulars at Murphy’s Bleachers, they knew us by face and name when we walked in, and Bridget (previous longtime bartender there) told us she could get lass a $1k job per night and an apt. for us right there a block or two away in Wrigleyville.

Dammit.
