Yesterday's darlings, #1 Kansas gets blown out by 3 loss Creighton and #2 Auburn loses to Duke.

Just shows the road is a bitch. Tough loss. Played poorly but the ceiling is still high with this team

If we played duke last night in Cameron with the game we brought to Clemson, we get wrecked badly.
Auburn played really well, they jumped out to a big lead and played extremely hard all game long.
I didn't see guys ball watching, a ton of missed free throws, or guys turning the ball over trying to do things they can't do.
Clemson isn't really a good team, they're low on talent and we let them out tough us.
It is what it is, doesn't mean our team sucks, but they have things to fix and right now, Auburn is way ahead of us when it comes to effort, toughness and quality depth.
I'm hopeful that we can catch up with them by the time they come to Rupp.
Maybe it's a good thing we lost the way we did, if it means we beat Gonzaga, I'll take that in a heartbeat.
We beat Duke am I missing something you must be a Notre Dame fan with that name

We have beat one living team to this point. Wait and see how we do with the Zags.
Saturday win or lose I am not jumping off a cliff we have a good team my seat belt is fastened either get on for the ride or stay on the fence some of you fans are unrealistic

Nobody is jumping off a cliff. I am just being realistic and in a wait and see mood.

I agree with the main point of this thread, but I find it very funny that anyone making this argument last year, when it was also 100% true, was accused of being a Cal slurper.

Wth? We beat duke on a neutral floor and we played better than we did Tuesday night.
Do you think neutral floor games are the same as true road games?
I'll say it again, if we went into Cameron and played the way we did Tuesday night, we get beat badly.

Not sure what I said to get this kind of response from you, but please explain to me what my name has to do with ND? Why would Digger Phelps have 'Cat' behind it?

who says we would get beat badly? Its two different opponents. Auburn beat Houston at Houston, but honestly I don't know how good Houston is this year. That is the only game they have won on the road. I don't think we will ever get beat badly regardless the opponent. North Carolina I thought would win too, but I don't think North Carolina is good this year. They don't have that big dude in the middle like they usually have. We compare because early on thats all you have to run off on.
We have a lot of seniors, but a lot of the seniors aren't used to true road game environments. We still had a chance to win with minutes to go. Clemson doesn't lose a lot at home. Most of the negative ones in this thread I notice are the same ones that were in love with Cal not you but bookerfan, as well as some others. We have a brand new team, compared to most teams that return at least 3-5 players and that matters too.
The refs were pretty awful. They got away with several walks and fouls. They gave two of our most important players 2 fouls early in the game. It ruins the flow especially with Carr. Our 3 point percentage was awful. Our point guard got hurt late in the game. Our assists to turn over ratio, horrible. Our rebounding horrible as well. We couldn't shoot foul shots to save our life. I like to see how pope adjusts. On our worst performance, we still only lose by 4.
I think Pope needs to play some of our freshmen when certain players aren't doing good. One to give them experience and two if everything else isn't working maybe they will. I believe Chandler should have gotten Kerr's minutes even though he isn't a pg.

I will argue against the concept that we beat this one and they beat that one thus we are the better team. Just like Duke last night getting a player hot, we have had that in our past (who can forget our game at Kansas) and then never see the same player go off again. The best is to just do the eye test. What did you see?

We did not look good against Clemson. We looked good in most other games. What was the difference? We did not share the ball, missed a lot of free throws, rushed several 3's, had players doing things like Williams trying to dribble drive that he hadn't in other games, Garrison looking totally lost, we got out hustled especially in the first half, allowed Clemson to dictate tempo, and yes it still was a close game.

Well, the bottom line is, we didn't play well Tuesday night. We got out toughed, out hustled and we missed way too many free throws. The road environment got to our guys.

That didn't happen to Auburn. Auburn did what they normally do. The road environment didn't seem to bother them. They lost because a duke player came out of nowhere and hit 7 or 8 threes on them and got the other guys going too.

But we can also say that if our guys played the way they did earlier in the season, they beat Clemson into the dirt.

I'm not trying to put our guys down, they just didn't play well and I'm saying that if our guys played like that in Cameron, we get beaten badly. We let a guy get 20 rebounds on us and we struggled to score on a team that isn't on duke's level.

It is what it is, who knows, maybe that loss sets us straight.

could he be stopped with someone defending him? we for one missed tons of 3s which is odd. some of them were wild open. auburns' 3 point defense seems suspect if some guy made that many 3s. the guy for clemson rebounding that much without fouling is sorta of an anomaly as well.... just saying...

I've been in several threads talking about the Clemson guy getting 20 rebounds, playing 36 minutes and not picking up a single foul.

Butler got called for reaching, but that guy jumped on our players backs continuously and nothing was called. Yeah, it was total BS.

But, I still feel like Auburn plays harder, they go after rebounds better, they shot the ball really well last night and they have Broome in the middle, he's much better than Amari is right now. I don't think that's debatable.

Duke got a little lucky, a couple of their guys went off, so they outlasted Auburn, but right now, Auburn is probably the best team in the country, I'll wait to see how we play on Saturday before giving my take on where we are. We just played 3 games in a row where shooting was an issue.
