Will Mark Soops ever win a NC at UK?

Can Ole Miss win a national championship in basketball? I would not bet on it.

I think Stoops will put a good defense on the field every year but the offense will put the brakes on any championship hopes. Even if Stoops took over at Florida State or Ohio State he would have to change his offense philosophy. Our offense will not win NCAA championships.

Coach Stoops needs to have a revelation the offense needs to go up 5 or 6 steps. But I am still celebrating our Citrus Bowl and 10 win season so all is well this morning. But as in life, you can always dream bigger and improve. Step by step

Much more difficult for a non-traditional football program to do it than a basketball program. Ole Miss could do it in basketball if they could get the right coach in. Memphis went from a program like DePaul to the national title game when they got Cal and that was in a non-P5 conference. You just have to recruit so many more players in football is what makes it difficult. The right five players in Basketball can win you a national title but in football you have to have 30+. I think the number of recruits required is why it's hard to win a surprise national title in this era of football. You can't schedule yourself to one like they did when teams like Colorado won it.

Most UK football fans still have clinical PTSD from watching our team snatch defeat from the jaws of victory over the course of 30-40 years....

Some of you just cannot accept the fact that UK may be a good football program.

The fact is, RIGHT NOW, UK is not that far from competing for a national championship. Why? Because Stoops has already built us into one of the top Defensive football programs and anyone who knows SQUAT about football, which isn't most people on this board, knows that Defense wins championships.

In fact, if UK had somehow recruited a star QB by now to give our Defense some average help, this team could have possibly competed for a national championship. You could honestly say we were a QB away....Maybe a couple of other positions.

We aren't that far away from competing for a SEC East championship. We just need a couple of more 4 stars or 5 stars on the field and we are in business.

You win a SEC East Division and you have a shot at the national championship. Stoops understands this...

We couldn't even compete with Georgia, and Georgia couldn't even make the 4-team playoff, and you claim we aren't far from competing for a title? lol

We're closer than where we were this time last year, we're still pretty far away from even winning the SEC, much less winning a national championship.

Lookup Larry Finch and get back with me. Memphis was a little better than a never ran, and Cal wasn't the first to do it there.

The sad truth is College Football has become a lot like Women's College basketball. Right now there are about 3-5 teams that over the next several years will always be in or around the playoff picture. Bama and Clemson (obviously) Oklahoma and UGA and Ohio State are the obvious ones (though skeptical of OSU until we see what the new coach is capable of) Hanging around on the doorsteps will be teams like Notre Dame, Michigan, Texas A&M, USC, Washington, maybe Florida sneaks back into that picture. Pretty much anyone else is on the outside looking in. but with all of the top recruits gravitating towards the traditional powers, that's how it's going to look.
