Why is everyone assuming Higgins is telling truth about the death threat?

I'm sure his business and probably his home phone (being in the business he is in) records all phone conversations. Why not release the tape ? How do we know if it was a UK fan? How do we know if it happened at all without proof? Was he exaggerating? downright lying? Does caller ID identify the alleged perpetrator?

Hopefully , when the FBI tracks this down they will do the right thing. If Higgins made up the threat story to get attention he should be prosecuted for filing a false police report. It would be a great strategy for him to make up the report to shift the story away from him and try and make UK fans look like a bunch of goons.

Why aren't reporters asking him to listen to the tape of the conversation in which the supposed threat was made?

I don't dispute that he received those calls nor that they could have came from UK fans who need to get a life but I also think it is plausible that in this day and age a fan of an opposing school would do something to bring a negative light to UK fans.

That brings up an interesting point. The NCAA has received a lot of heat from media members over the calls in the first half. What is the best way to get the heat off of you? Put it on someone else. It is convenient that an NCAA employee just happened to provide that distraction to the media and now they have turned their attention to the evil UK fans not the crooked NCAA.

I suspect this is the case. Not that endorse death threats but I'm sure they are way more common than that. Probably get one almost every nationally televised game even. It's almost never discussed. It's being made a big deal this time I would assume to shut UK fans up. For god sakes they even advanced Higgins to the Final Four. The last thing the NCAA needs is cracks in his credibility because he will almost certainly call a pro-UNC game again and the NCAA doesn't need the optics. This is two games in this tournament alone that should have sent UNC home and they were saved by officiating.
