Who Would You Replace Stoops With?

My first call would be to Willie Fritz at Tulane. He's a proven program builder and has built teams from the ground up.
I would also give Dan Mullen a call, even though I think he'd have a tough time at UK. He's a good system coach who has won in the SEC.

Here’s the quote. Not sure what other meaning you’d get from that.

“I encourage anybody that’s disgruntled to pony up some more.”
The part where you said;

he’s making excuses for what “you see is what you get” from this point on. All things remaining the same, the program has reached its ceiling in his mind.

He didn’t say any of those things. You inferred all that from that quote. What I hear is if you’re not part of the solution then shut up. I don’t agree with him saying that either but he certainly didn’t say any of what you said.

Fritz is 63, doubt he wants to take on a new build but I'll take his QB, Michael Pratt, as Leary's replacement.

I saw where Mullen is only 51.
I was surprised.

I'll play along. If you're going the coordinator route, I'd take a look at Garrett Riley, Ryan Grubb, Brian Hartline and Tommy Rees. All 4 OC's, relatively young and success at big programs. If you're going the HC route, I'd take a look at Mike Elko or Jon Sumrall (although his offensive philosophy scares me).

My thing is there just doesn't seem to be anyone out there that screams upgrade that would come to UK.
No way of knowing until u ask a few.

Hope it doesn’t happen but you make Elko say no first. Helton at WKU is a good coach. White and Coen would get interviews. I think White would be a real candidate for Mitch. Schumann at UGA could be a high risk high reward candidate.

Not sure Fleck survives Minnesota much longer. Has already lost 3 this year, including a recent loss to lowly Northwestern, with Iowa, Ohio St, Wisc, Ohio St still ahead.

Yeah Fleck being on anyone's wish list now is surprising. Minn hopes someone takes him. Dione is the hot name right now, I have a feeling there will be some openings at end of season, an no UK isn't one i am thinking. How long is ATM going to stick with Jimbo? Mich St is already in the market. A surprising place is SoCal. Riley teams are so soft, think he may head to NFL soon.
Kendal Briles OC at Arkansas.

He was fired there, at TCU now I believe.

Grumpy do you think Schumann will get any P5 head job offers this year? I know he’s really young but seems like a school could look at him as high risk high reward.

I always respected Mullen because he seemed to be a gracious winner and loser, and overall good guy. You know not a Petrino d_ck .... My only concern with him is recruiting to UK.... If he could do that at least as good or better than Marrow, then I'd take him in a second....

Lol, Deion Sanders is not coming to Kentucky and you all are insane to even be discussing this. Mark Stoops is the best coach UKs ever had. It's been a tough couple weeks. Mark Stoops is not the problem with UK football. However, I do trust him to fix it. Even if it doesn't get fixed this year.
That would be a hoot watching UK fans interact with Prime Time. Something tells me that would not be a match made in Heaven, Besides, he has a team full of transfers some of whom had significant roles on good teams. How do we know he can even recruit and develop players? He probably needs a little more time to prove himself.

Some of the names that have dropped are bizarre, either because they're a pipe dream like Swinney or Deion or laughable like Tuberville or Petrino.

It is likely a moot argument because Stoops is going nowhere. If he did, then realistic hires are high level coordinators like Garrett Riley, Brian Hartline, Glenn Schumann, etc. Or up and coming G5 guys like Sumrall, Jason Candle, Jamey Chadwell. There are at least about 20 guys from those categories that could be considered and Coen might be the front-runner.

There might be some OK P5 coaches that might be interested, like Neal Brown or Dave Clawson or Gus Malzahn, but they would not be likely to create a lot of excitement. The only recently fired coaches that would be worth considering are Mullen and Herman.

Basketball needs to start like right now. The dumbest among us belong on rafters.

Some of these choices man. Tubberville? The OC at Arkansas? Brohm? Good grief.

I actually wouldn't consider Brohm to be a terrible hire. Uninspiring, but reasonably OK. But it would be as unrealistic to expect him to leave Louisville to go to UK as it would be to expect any coach in America to leave x place to come here. Brohm is right where he wants to be for a very long time.

This. So proud of the little fella.

I'd say hire someone from this board. They can beat the 3 ooc cupcakes and UL and 2 to 3 SEC games and it's gravy. Sure most would do it for 900k a year.
Yet another example how far out of touch you are from reality. I think you honestly believe this.

This may sound crazy, but I think he is waiting on the Bama job to open up. He is an alumni, started his career there as an off field analysis. He is exceptionally bright, was Kirby's first hire, an elite recruiter and developer, every LBer who has played meaningful snaps has been drafted, 2 Butkus award winner. Bama came hard after him this off season for their DC, he had a couple of NFL interviews, turned an offer down. If we were looking he would be at top of my wish list.

He is paid really well for a coordinator, 1.9m and if he returns that goes to 2.25m in 24. He can afford to be patient so if the right job came alone sure he would take it, but I think Bama is the one he wants.

Exactly. which is why it's such a stupid thing to say on a UK message board. I would never give UL fans the satisfaction of reading that

Mullen was canned at Florida for not recruiting. That would be a disaster hire at Kentucky. He'd make a great offensive coordinator for someone. His ego might get in the way of taking that position though.

If Stoops was to leave what about Liam Coen ?
The jury is still out on Coen. He needs to take his share of the blame for the offensive meltdowns we've had. Going away from what works for this team has derailed a lot of drives this season. You also can't force the ball to players who are struggling.

Kalen DeBoer-Washing HC
Liam Coen
Brian Hartline-Ohio State OC
Tommy Reese-Bama OC
Kellen Moore-Chargers OC
Mike Bobo-UGA Oc
Willie Fritz-Tulan HC
Tosh Lupoi-Oregon DC

There are a lot of upgrades, maybe they would not come to UK but there are a lot of upgrades.

I think Chadwell is really going to make some noise in the future. I’m concerned South Carolina will hire him.

Someone who knows how to coach, implement discipline, and doesn't act like an idiot on the sidelines or at country clubs in town.

Liberty’s coach
Are you talking about Hugh Freeze, who is now at Auburn? This Hugh Freeze:

Under Freeze, the Ole Miss football program committed various recruiting and academic violations that figured in the NCAA's decision to expunge 27 of Freeze's wins and ban the team from post-season play for two years.[4]

And the Hugh Freeze who was fired for using his university cell phone to line up hookers? Good choice.

My guess is he's talking about current Liberty coach Jamey Chadwell, formerly of Coastal Carolina. He has a NCAA history too.

Good choices except for Bobo, who bombed as a HC at Colorado St. DeBoer would be making a less than lateral move to come here, though.
