Who Would You Replace Stoops With?

We don’t need to be giving other schools this anti Stoops and UK football recruiting ammo!!!

Lol, Deion Sanders is not coming to Kentucky and you all are insane to even be discussing this. Mark Stoops is the best coach UKs ever had. It's been a tough couple weeks. Mark Stoops is not the problem with UK football. However, I do trust him to fix it. Even if it doesn't get fixed this year.

Nothing is going to get fixed unless fans pony up some cash. Stoops said as much. Maybe he’s right, maybe he’s wrong. Regardless, he’s making excuses for what “you see is what you get” from this point on. All things remaining the same, the program has reached its ceiling in his mind.

Honestly, I’d take Bobby Petrino over Stoops. I’ll take bullets here but that’s how low I’m willing to go. X’s & O’s wise, it’s not even close. Recruiting would dip on defense but he’d have us scoring. Wait until he gets his guys at A&M if Jimbo stays another few years.
He took UL all the way to 2-10.

Jon Sumrall. Yes he only been a Head Coach for 21 games but he 17-4. Only makes 1M a Year so UK can get for way less than they paying Stoops and his teams averages 7O offensive plays a game presently. With Texas and OU coming to the SEC, No Divisions and 9 game SEC schedule more than likely in the Future UK always going to be 7-5, 8-4 team I feel and Sumrall can do that and the games be more exciting and his offensive style gives us a chance for major upset now and then.
What's his offensive style? Been a defensive guy his whole career. Scares me although l really like him.

Offensive style? I love Sumrall, but Troy averages 23ppg (UK averages 32ppg). They averaged 24.6ppg last year. If you want a more exciting offensive style, Sumrall is not your guy.

That's not what he said. But he's right if you want continued higher level success.

What about those rumors from a few years back? Any truth to that? That could go a long way making his contract null and void

For $9 million, there would be interest. Obviously they would not start at $9, but UK isn’t afraid to pay a good coach and his staff.
Just because stoops makes 9 doesn’t mean the next guy is getting 9. Someone like Meyer may be able to command that but that’s not happening.

Stoops has a pretty standard sec contract. Any coach with his tenure would be getting this salary. No one seems to understand that.

Dan Mullen and it hurts me to say that but he’s a better coach than what’s there now
Danny was gifted one of the country's most talented teams and home states at Florida and we beat them half the years Mullen was coaching the gators. Our definitions of better differ greatly.

Dion Sanders would obviously be the first choice. The second choice would be the Minnesota head coach. There are up and coming guys that could do better and recruit well at an SEC level. Stoops hasn't done that here.
Laughable. Colorado started out 4-0, now they are 4-3. UK fans would want to get rid of him too.

Not many will be happy in this fanbase unless we are 11-0 or 12-0. So, no one could really make them happy unless it was Kirby Smart I suppose.

First this is just a question in no way am I on a side with what UK does with the coach staff. Marrow isn't very highly thought of by UK fans here, mainly I think because of his Ohio connection. If for whatever reason Stoops leaves, would Marrow be given an opportunity?
I’m late to the thread, but my perception is that Stoops and Marrow are pretty much joined at the hip. If you can Stoops, you can pretty much forget about retaining Marrow unless Stoops decides to quit coaching, which I seriously doubt.

For the record, Marrow is one of best recruiters we’ve ever had at UK IMO, but he’s an average at best TE position, also IMO. He just doesn’t come across as a viable candidate for HC for the reasons I’ve stated,

More than likely if Stoops left right now it would be White or Coen (even with lack of experience) getting interviews.

In all reality unless there is some kind of horrendous development such as abuse of players or the like the UK board and AD aren't gonna pull a trigger from a couple of 6 and 7 win seasons.

All of us get over wrought when we hit these stretches, but in all honesty can any of us recall a time with as much sustained success in UK football?

Stoops is not going anywhere and will fulfill his contract, but I would at least interview Dan Mullen, if he had any interest.
Heck of a coach and love his system but he had trouble recruiting at UF so you could multiply that by ten here. But we do have the portal which makes it easier and the skill guys would love his offense.

But but but but that don't matter, he beat the mighty Notre Dame, and since they beat USC, Bear Brohm's team can beat USC.. His first year, and all ready a BIG BOWL eligible!
Brohm’s a smart man, waited for that weak ass schedule before he took the job so he could look like ULs savior and hit them for $$.

I'll play along. If you're going the coordinator route, I'd take a look at Garrett Riley, Ryan Grubb, Brian Hartline and Tommy Rees. All 4 OC's, relatively young and success at big programs. If you're going the HC route, I'd take a look at Mike Elko or Jon Sumrall (although his offensive philosophy scares me).

My thing is there just doesn't seem to be anyone out there that screams upgrade that would come to UK.

Final answer:

Shane Beamer. Ol boy has such control of his emotions and such great passion for the game that he apparently broke his foot by kicking a chair during the loss to Florida.

Bring on the sunglasses. Bring on the peg leg scooter. It's time, Boys. 😎

I know he's not going to but I wish Stoops would change his offensive philosophy to a more explosive one with passing, or go all in on being a run first team. Doesn't seem like we can really succeed trying to be balanced for whatever reason. Would also like to see more aggressive defense consistently, this bend but don't break is just death by a thousand cuts. I know he's afraid of getting burnt up the middle on a big play but you've gotta mix it up. Seems like we always start out aggressive on D then pucker up and go into a holding pattern trying to hang on for dear life.

Could not agree more, CB. It seems that any lead causes Coach Stoops to just sit back and try to win with defense. He never has seemed to want to stick the knife in deeper, once he has the lead. I like him and want him to stay, as we have done better with him as coach. Just like a little more aggression from him (rather than our fans).

Yep. It's maddening. I feel like they spend all week coming up with the perfect scripted plan for the opposing team. We hold our own and get up 2 scores. Then he takes the air out of the ball on both sides. I don't get it. Why go away from what was clearly working? Makes no sense.

I don’t think so

I want Mark Stoops to continue coaching the Wildcats. I like what he has done and feel he made the moves he felt he needed to make last offseason to get us to the next level. It just did not work out.

I think he is as frustrated as us fans. He has a track record of recruiting better than any coach here since the Bear. He has won better than any coach here since the bear. He wants this team to get to the next level and a think he is the man that will get this team there.
