Who Still Supports Cal?

I roasted Cal as an "early adopter" of a much more critical and outspoken critique of his last few years. My whole issue was "Who would we replace him with?" and that's where I still am, strangely. For me, I guess it all depends on WHO we could get before I could give my ultimate stamp of approval for the direction where we go next. Not that we need that, not at all.

Having said that, I got shouted down. No problem, it looks like I was ahead of the curve, and no, I'm not getting myself a cookie or a medal for being a first adopter for a major change. I'm sad it's coming down like, and TO this.

What got me from the start, the very beginning, was Cal having the nerve to announce to Kentucky fans that that particular NBA draft was the biggest thing for UK or whatever the hell he said such a long time ago. That stuck in my craw.

I always said University of Kentucky Basketball comes first. And foremost. Forever and Always. Saying anything else is sacrilege. You don't put the university first by promoting the NBA.

I'm kinda' like an elephant I guess, which prob'ly aint no good.

If we could be assured of getting one of several coaches, I'd be alright with it, because I've lost a lot of interest since 15'. The BBN self imposed drama isn't my thing, and that's what we've had around here for years, and yes, it does look like the end years of tubby for those of us here that remembered the superheroes vs the legion of doom.

Looks like Doom is winning out yet again, inevitably so.
Doomers were right and we eventually got Cal out of it. Tubby would never have had a stretch like 10-15’

I'm waiting to form my opinion until I see next year's team. I've grown frustrated with him and there's plenty of reason to be tired of him, but I'm not giving up until I see that team. We just assembled this brand new coaching staff and things are *feeling* like 09-15 with them. Since this staff didn't exactly bring in this year's squad but immediately brought in a monster squad I wanna see what Cal does with those guys.

***waves hand*** I support Cal and the Cats 100% just like I always have.. Stop comparing to Tubby...Tub had no chance to turn things around, he couldn't recruit..Cal made changes to the staff and has the top class coming in..I'll give him a couple more years

I haven't for quite some time. And it appears some of his biggest fans are finally waking up.

But I'd love to know, after this latest debacle, who still thinks this dude is still going to lead the team to another championship? Or even to a place of respectability? Losing season last year. Losing season this year against real competition. Even if we grant that Ohio is a decent team, he's 1-2.

Reveal yourselves. And do tell us: Why should we have confidence in Coach Cal?
I still support Cal. He's UKs coach. Now if next year with some studs come in and we're still shitty that's a different story.

And no matter what anyone says there is nothing anyone can say to change your mind. So no point.

I'm not giving up on this team yet. I'm tired of hearing if you support Cal then your Cal first and not UK first. That's bullshit. If you're gonna fire Cal we better have a great coach lined up.

And I won't be bullied like some are trying to do.

I still support Cal and will continue to do so at least thru next season. As others have pointed out, that class seems to be pretty stacked and if he fails with them I will reevaluate. With Chin & OA there is still time for this to turn around IMO.

However, I have no issue with Cal getting tons of flack right now. After last year and a pretty miserable game at ND at the start of an important stretch of games it is well deserved. I’m hoping he and the guys right the ship.

I do chuckle at anyone who thinks Cal will be fired or leave anytime soon tho, so honestly all this Cal posturing is for naught. We are stuck together whether you I or anyone else likes it or not. So I will try to enjoy it to the extent I can and hope for the best.

Bunch of bandwagon pussys. “I’ve wanted him gone for a long time”. Ha.
i ve put up polls all the time (last few seasons) do you want cal gone... and less than 8% said yes.
Now, “I’ve wanted him gone for years”.
lol
Only speak your true feelings with the gang. LOL and pathetic
We’re bandwagon because we point out losing to ND is unacceptable.

True but say Cal won only 14 games this season after only winning 9 in 2021, then had a meh 22-23 year with the elite group of guards he has coming in, I think he'd step away on his own.

For those who want him ousted, that’s the best bet - another bad year this year and a mediocre year next year leads the ego-driven coach to quit on his own.

People who think Cal would be fired with a $50+ million buyout are more delusional than the people who expect to go 40-0 every year.

RR loves to strawman argue and when that doesn't work red herring...

Lot of good points. Almost all of this arguing is futile and a waste of everyone’s time. Cal isn’t getting fired unless he steps on his tail and burns down his contract. We would owe him like a gazillion dollars. It’s not happening and I wish folks just understood this. But everyone is hyper emotional and just wants to scream and throw a fit and demands this or that. That’s dreamworld stuff. In the real world you are wasting your time.

But the reason everyone is hyper emotional is because of last season and I get it. It hurt and made us all a little crazy. It will take a while to repair a portion of the fan base after that debacle. We would all be better suited if we focused on the team this year because there is a lot to love about this group. All this coaching change talk isn’t leading us anywhere. It’s like arguing about which super model we all want to date. News flash, we will end up dancing with who brung us. None of us will land a super model so why would we waste our time fighting over it?

So basically saying this is like saying that someone's wife is terrible and cheating on you but you are stuck with her because it's all you can get and it's not getting better?

i guess it’s possible but I just don’t see an ego driven guy like Cal or any of the other big name coaches willingly leaving on their own during a period where they are clearly on a downhill slide. Their mentality will always be I can turn this around. Maybe not hope we don’t have to find out.

As this is an obvious baiting thread, I won't say much. I'm a KY basketball fan. They field the program. I support it. I am not an entitled little brat that thinks I am owed wins. I'll either support the product they put on the court or I'll keep my damn mouth shut in public.

That and it's a waste of time to talk about it, you know, because he doesn't share the same opinions, so it's just a waste of time to discuss how we feel and what we would like to see happen.

If only there was a free message board where random people could go to post their thoughts about this stuff so we don't disturb people like "Rockfly78".

As hard as it is to believe, getting better is still an option. So it’s a bad example. The wifey isn’t cheating. But she isn’t putting out. We need a few nights where we don’t fight about stupid shit and maybe we can book a little sex therapy. Maybe we will beat that headboard in again before Christmas.

But the marriage metaphor works because this divorce is too expensive to make sense. So instead of crying into our pillow, let’s work on shit

I’m not disturbed by nothing hoss. But I’m getting a little embarrassed for all you little pu$$ies crying about the same thing day after day. We can’t fire him you ding dong. I’m not a “cal guy”. I don’t care who the coach is. I still think he can win but he’s not doing a great job at it and I’m pissed at him. But I’m a realist and smart enough to know that we can’t fire him. So I’ve come to terms with that. You should try it.

Btw I’m all about typing whatever you want on a message board and sharing your feelings with the world. But if you sound like a little girl then I also have the right to call you a little girl. At this point the board is talking in circles and crying into its pillow. Time to suck it up. It’s early still.

Don't be a dunce, even the loudest "FIRE CAL NOW" guys know he can’t and won't be fired. Have some sense and stop taking everything so literal. It’s a message board duhhh.

You can say "I want him fired right now", but that doesn't make it possible.

I'd love to see him walk out right now and replace him with a hungry coach that will fight like hell, but that ain't happening.

10 years is all anyone can do at this job, so no more lifetime deals (that was fvcking stupid of Mitch to do).

Look at what losing that game Saturday has done to the folks on this board. Since the game we have jerked off mike brey, Tom crean, and I just saw you stroking on freaking indiana. We’re mad but have some damn pride dude. I can be pissed without propping up indiana and Tom crean. Find a better way to vent. Or don’t, if you are cool looking like a wuss then have at it

I Do. I don’t have to tell you why, because that’s my own choice. You‘re really good at starting negative threads, which begs the question “Are you even A UK Fan”? Calling people out because they still support Cal is really silly. Live and let live this is why most of us are damn glad we live in the good ole USA. You and some others are mirroring Antifa or the far left and trying to force your opinion on the rest of us. Get a grip the world is not ending because we lost a ballgame. Don’t you have a wife, kids, job or something else in your life to worry about besides a ballgame. Let the season play out, because if the team improves and we have a good season people like you will suddenly disappear.

I still support Cal’s opportunity to take this season and at least some of next season and turn his biggest errors around.
  • Play college offense, not NBA isolation—since he can no longer recruit for NBA isolation
  • Mix up the defense enough that opposing offenses have to work SOME—since he can no longer recruit squads that can play his switching, funnel-the-driver-to-the-shot-blocker-at-the-basket man full time to good effect
He’s earned that opportunity.

So far this season he’s not instilling me with a lot of confidence that he’ll ever even want to get that far, much less get really there. But he has made needed staff changes, and except for Collins he’s switched to bringing in much more college-basketball-player style recruits. (Even if he’s not using them much like college basketball players so far.) So I’m still standing behind his right to try if he wants….or to wake up and start trying.

I support the UK program therefore I support Cal since he is our present coach.

I didn’t prop up Indiana or Tom Crean (yuck). Morg simply said TC would do a better job coaching than Cal is RIGHT NOW and I can't say I disagree.

Cal takes half the season to figure out his team. I get it when it’s all freshmen, but damn, this is a group of veterans he has been working with since June, but they look just as lost as all Cal's young teams.

And yeah, if we can lose to flippin' Notre Dame, I have no reason to believe we could step on a court with Indiana right now and win.

Do you know that Boston College just got beat at home, badly… .by Albany? ALBANY. That same BC team, blew the doors off ND. Just think about that, we lost to ND.

Yeah, Cal is in the HOF, but UK put him there, without UK, he ain't no HOF coach, he’s a fraud.

Sure would've been nice if the collective fanbase woke up sooner. There's been no pressure on the AD, because Cal had duped so many into supporting the continual shitshow.
People like you have no understanding of what college basketball is about. Go back to your little church league team and impress them.

If you want to see a fraud then look in the mirror.

Yeah, I've given him the benefit of the doubt but, it's over for Calipari. He should retire at the end of the season and go out gracefully. If he doesn't it's going to get very ugly around the program. The sad thing is he holds all the cards courtesy of a delusional buyout in his contract.
He can either go out with a bit of dignity or stick around another 3-4 years and watch the vast majority of the fanbase turn against him. It's happening very fast and if this team fails to make the NCAA tournament he may not have a choice.
Has a UK coach ever missed 3 tournaments?

people are figuring this loser out
Now who is a loser? Posting such negative posts on this board could be a qualifying event.

I do. And, any of you fans who quit on him this early in the season are not UK fans. Jesus, most of you people on here are cry babies. You want Billy G, or Tubby back? How soon we forget.
It’s not just this season, pal. It’s been a steady decline for several years now. The guy NEVER makes adjustments on either side of the ball in order for us to have the best chance to win. Anyone that knows basketball can watch this current shit show and realize this. Any of you fans that continue to accept this mediocrity (at best), are not UK fans.

Sure we are not UK fans because we support the program regardless as to who is coach. So to support the program we have to hate Cal. Man you got more problems than Cal. You need to get a life. Many more important things in life than basketball. That hate in your heart is not good for your health.
