Who Still Supports Cal?

Nonsense and no one is buying this crap. You can’t support Calipari and the Kentucky Wildcat program. He’s bad for its success.

Some of you are just off course and need to get it together. We’re fans of UK, not Erin Calipari’s Facebook page.
Or some of us just don’t care as much as you do.

I love my wildcats, I can’t change their coach, so I’ll go with it until someone feels like they need to change the coach. That won’t be your decision or mine.

Anyway, I was angry for about 10 minutes tonight and then realized I honestly don’t care. If they win the next game, great. If they don’t win, oh well. I’ll keep supporting them.

Honestly, though, some of you make this game your life and you get incredibly bent out of shape when we don’t win. To the point where you copy names, try to make others as miserable as you, and generally just live an unhappy life. As many of you have stated, this is the land of the free and I can’t tell you what to do or how to feel, and you’re right.

You be you, Boo. I’ll be me.

Bunch of bandwagon pussys. “I’ve wanted him gone for a long time”. Ha.
i ve put up polls all the time (last few seasons) do you want cal gone... and less than 8% said yes.
Now, “I’ve wanted him gone for years”.
lol
Only speak your true feelings with the gang. LOL and pathetic
Care to comment on the poll I just bumped from March 12, 2021? 43% in that poll (103 users) said they were done with the dude.

sorry my passion for a college basketball team isn’t as overflowing as yours. I honestly have other things that make me happier. You should try it sometimes.

I haven't for quite some time. And it appears some of his biggest fans are finally waking up.

But I'd love to know, after this latest debacle, who still thinks this dude is still going to lead the team to another championship? Or even to a place of respectability? Losing season last year. Losing season this year against real competition. Even if we grant that Ohio is a decent team, he's 1-2.

Reveal yourselves. And do tell us: Why should we have confidence in Coach Cal?
We don't.

I do because I’ve seen the script before.
Cal’s teams struggle the first few months with Freshman and now transfers trying to gel together. Then as conference play starts the team starts to be more cohesive and begins playing better defense.
I think after this L tonight, coupled with Frederick being out for the season you will see Cal play Sharpe starting in January.
Take a deep breath guys, I hate to lose too, but it happens.
I like your optimism, HH, and respect your and others’ opinions who support him. However, I quit listening to Cal’s pre and post game comments years ago. The guy never talked strategy or game plan, just blew smoke. “We gotta be better than the other guy”, “I can’t hide you”, “I refuse to watch game film, we just have to play to our strengths”, “They don’t play zone in the NBA”, “NBA draft day is the greatest day in the history of UK”.
Other teams are getting open looks from 3 for their shooters, and somehow create offenses that get layups for well-executed plays. We have none of that unless we have guards who can create off the dribble one-on-one AAU style and break down the defense. That’s not coaching as much as individual talent, and other teams are game planning for that.
John Calipari is a great spokesman and leader, and promotes charitable events and has his players give back to the community. That’s very noble and all, but as far as coaching basketball plays, it appears he is lacking other than to yell and scream “gggggggoooooo!” I want a coach who can talk about what is wrong and how he’s going to fix it. He needs to change his style, but you can’t teach an old dog new tricks, as the saying goes. Cal is too stubborn to change as we’ve seen now for the last 5-6 years.
I’ll support the University, the team and players, but I cannot support the way the team is and has been coached.

I said, and I’m not pumping my own horn, 4 years ago that if Cal doesn’t scrap the 1 and done he’s finished. It was obvious he couldn’t sustain it, but he chose to move along. He’s as stubborn as a mule and he’s going down the Pitino road. See ya back in Memphis. The BBQ is better anyway, maybe that’ll be more important than wins too.

This f’n guy has used and abused this program for years now. All for his NBA players club bullshit. Time to send him packing to the NBA. They might need a good ball boy.

I support Cal but that doesn’t mean I can’t offer up critiques with my feeble observations. I don’t know what happened to Cal’s offense but since the 2015 season either other coaches have figured it out or something happened that I can’t decipher. Too many times our players stand around on the perimeter making meaningless passes that accomplish little to nothing except for a desperation shot as the play clock is about to expire. Meanwhile, other team’s, regardless of their talent, seem to get wide open for a lot of 3 point shots. UK rarely gets open 3 point shots. They are often forced. Our offense appears stagnant and awkward which is in stark contrast to our offense during Cal’s first 6 years.

The worse part is that this has been going on for 6 years and Cal doesn’t appear to know how to fix it. Our offense is ugly to watch.

Cal is not a good bench coach. He rarely makes in game adjustments to help the team. Today, was a perfect example. It was immediately obvious that Notre Dame’s strategy was to sag off Wheeler to keep him from penetrating and making layups or dishing off for an assist. They knew Wheeler was a poor shot so they let him shoot. If Wheeler isn’t penetrating and dishing off, he offers very little on offense. But, what did Cal do in response to Notre Dame’s defense? Virtually nothing only sitting Wheeler during the last 5 minutes of the game. I would think a Hall of Fame coach with 30 plus years experience could make some adjustment to counter Notre Dames’s strategy but there was nothing. UK players appeared confused or lost as if they had never practiced together. All in all, it was all too familiar. We have seen it now for 6 years. Same old same old. It’s not working Cal. Swallow your pride and please get some help on offense. You are smart enough to know you need it.

I am willing to see this season out with Cal running the ship, but I'm tiring of him. He's comfortable now.

1. No Final Four since 2015.
2. 1/11 against Duke for RSCI top 5 players since 2014.
3. 16-18 over our last 34 games.
4. On the verge of losing the all-time wins lead to Kansas.

Cal needs to get to a Final Four this year to win the fans back. If he somehow makes the tournament, that will be good enough for Barnhart. He'll let Cal coach the Livingston class.

I do. And, any of you fans who quit on him this early in the season are not UK fans. Jesus, most of you people on here are cry babies. You want Billy G, or Tubby back? How soon we forget.

Id take 2001 Tubby back right now without a hesitation. What does it take to get this through your head. The program sucks. Cal sucks. His teams suck. He’s losing to every quality opponent there is. He’s destroyed the schedule. We are a laughing stock. He’s Mr. NIT.

God you’re dense. I actually mean that in the nicest way possible. You’re so ate up in his salesman routine you don’t even notice….

He doesn’t WIN.

Then get off the message board. You don’t have any business here. You’ve got other things to do, like pick your next destination. Wait with anticipation by your computer to see where the salesman sends you.

We have lives and we love UK basketball. You have a life and love a coach of NCAA basketball. Please, the 4 of you left, follow him wherever he goes. Or wake up and realize this guy is bad news for UK basketball and get the stunted look off your face and the stars out of your eyes. That 1988 Plymouth isn’t worth the money Cal is asking you to pay for it. Save your money.

I still want Cal to figure it out but my patience is basically up at this point. Last year was such a disaster that I knew the last 4 minutes tonight was going to play out like it did. I also haven't been a fan of how we don't play quality opponents at home anymore and we don't play those early season tournaments in Maui or elsewhere that can help build a tournament resume.

What fans will have to realize is that IF Calipari leaves or is gone at the end of this year or next, the next coach is not going to inherit much. The problem of relying so much on the one and done model is that there will be tons of empty roster spots. So the first year of the new coach could be pretty dire AND that can could dissuade some candidates from taking the job. On top of that, I'm skeptical about who we could lure here to take it. I think the lists that have people like Brad Stevens or Billy Donovan on them are laughable.

Well, fortunately you don't get to decide who is a "real UK fan" and who isn't. No one is pining away for BCG or OTS. You think the UK job in 2021 wouldn't be easy to fill?
If I am AD my first, second and third call is to Scott Drew. While Baylor is a very nice program, it isn't Kentucky. He'd jump for $7.5 million plus endorsements or he'd be stupid not to.

Yeah the guys who ask, “Who are you going to hire?” are annoying af.

It’s just stupid. They still haven’t woke up from 2015. Cal is, at best, middle of the pack in the SEC from a “all around” standpoint. Pearl has to be laughing his ass off right now. Calipari was so arrogant once upon a time, and made a lot of jabs at those guys to a lot of people. Cronin and Pearl specifically. When a lot of fans would take Mic f’n Cronin over Cal, you suck buddy.

At this point I’m beginning to think Calipari has some crazy vendetta against someone and is sabotaging the program intentionally. Never thought I’d see the guy get his ass handed to him this bad and not give a damn.

Can one of you basketball geniuses on here tell me who can would have a legitimate shot at taking the job to replace Cal. Someone that puts us in the conversation to make a run every year (for example: someone like Bill Self, without the cheating, or a Jay Wright). I am not saying I want any of these two coaches, just want someone of there caliber. But, before I would turn the keys over, I would have to have an assurance that a coach of that caliber is available and would consider this job. The list that I would choose from is short. I don't know if I trust some of these up and coming coaches like (Nate Oats) who is still unproven in my opinion. After all that said I am willing to give Cal a chance to right the ship this year and next year for three reasons. 1) we are only 9 games in with a new team. 2) I would like to see what he does with that recruiting class next year. 3) He brought back Antigua and a new staff, they deserve at least another year to show they can bring it back.

At this point, I’d take Billy Clyde back. We are on the road to becoming Indiana basketball.

I am not a genius but if you actually think no one else out there can run this program but Calipari then you are plain stupid son. There are plenty of hungry, qualified individuals out there that could take over this program tomorrow and thrive. Look around, they’re not hard to find. Cal belongs at an NBA training site or in the G League. If it’s his passion to help kids to reach their dreams then fine, move on. My passion is titles. And we are not winning any of them anytime soon.

I roasted Cal as an "early adopter" of a much more critical and outspoken critique of his last few years. My whole issue was "Who would we replace him with?" and that's where I still am, strangely. For me, I guess it all depends on WHO we could get before I could give my ultimate stamp of approval for the direction where we go next. Not that we need that, not at all.

Having said that, I got shouted down. No problem, it looks like I was ahead of the curve, and no, I'm not getting myself a cookie or a medal for being a first adopter for a major change. I'm sad it's coming down like, and TO this.

What got me from the start, the very beginning, was Cal having the nerve to announce to Kentucky fans that that particular NBA draft was the biggest thing for UK or whatever the hell he said such a long time ago. That stuck in my craw.

I always said University of Kentucky Basketball comes first. And foremost. Forever and Always. Saying anything else is sacrilege. You don't put the university first by promoting the NBA.

I'm kinda' like an elephant I guess, which prob'ly aint no good.

If we could be assured of getting one of several coaches, I'd be alright with it, because I've lost a lot of interest since 15'. The BBN self imposed drama isn't my thing, and that's what we've had around here for years, and yes, it does look like the end years of tubby for those of us here that remembered the superheroes vs the legion of doom.

Looks like Doom is winning out yet again, inevitably so.

Okay, so if you don't care whether the team wins or loses, you just simply don't get a say, your opinion really doesn't matter.

This is about those millions of UK fans that truly care if UK wins or loses.

If you don't care, then why are you on here so often? I call bullshit.

“Who is going to replace him?” is not an excuse to keep a washed up coach. It’s playing scared.

Dude. You’re bummed out. You’re hurt. You’re emotional.

don’t add retarded to your list.
You’re damn right I am. Ok maybe not Billy Clyde, but I want a guy who has his team as the hunter. The last few years, we have become pussified. Play scared, I don’t know, he just acts like he could give 2 shits. I’m tired of it, I want a change.

I do as do 99.9999999% of the fan base. You’re an idiot and will be wishing cal would come back the second he eventually leaves.

Another house of blue member who willingly blows his backpay check on "premium info" and only knows how to call others insults than come with some facts. Tell me chief, is it still down to Miami and UK for Jalen Duren?

The next coach that comes along I would prefer it be one that we don't have to worry about the coaching part. I would rather have a better coaching than players instead of the way it is now. A coach that can get the most out of what he has to work with. Being Kentucky we will always have some pretty good players. A coach that understands and accepts just how important the program is to us. I remember Tubby's last couple of years how critical he was of us for 'taking the game too serious.' A coach that will discuss his players and team instead of a bunch of stories we don't even care about.

The loss to ND hurt our seeding. We have some veteran players now so going into that place and getting an L should not have been. Dominate talent in the game with nice college experience, was no point in losing.

Yeah because your percentage is well represented in this thread and in the polls (not only the recent ones but also the ones from last year and the year before that).

So yeah thanks for playing, but you’re wrong.
