I think for me, what made Wilkerson such a special get, was how perfect he would have been in the role. One, top efficiency in catch and shoot. Two, deep, deep range. Three, ballhandling and shot creation. Four, assist rate. Five, speed and quickness. Six, excellent efficiency with mid range floater.
I absolutely thought he was a must-get, not because the overall player skill, but specifically how dynamic and effective he could be in the specific role.
We may find someone who can absolutely fill it up and serve as that sharpshooter. Heck, someone else may enter the portal tomorrow who can do all those things. More than likely though, we probably won’t find someone to fill that role to quite that degree. Regardless, we have a lot of talent and if you ain’t with us, you ain’t with us. LW ain’t with us. On to the next!

The Quaintance recruitment/commitment really came out of nowhere.
It kind of goes to show that Pope keeps things pretty tight to the vest so to speak.
I wouldn’t be surprised if someone commits before we know much about the recruitment.
Feels like all our commits have been out of left field. There were a few hints with JQ but they were modest. It's never the guys we are obsessively following for updates.
He was but only avaraged 7 mpg,, down from 32 year before.. I'm not saying get him but if cheap enough,, don't see a problem with it..

There’s so many angles to NIL. When you have a packed roster you can’t go matching teams with stupid offers. That will create problems and maybe some guys you have commited to stay end up leaving.

Add Darrion Williams from Texas Tech, but there is ALL kinds of smoke / flames / fire with him staying in conference and going to BYU. If so, BYU will be a load next year.

Another guy if you go back to when the portal first opened, Kennard Davis S. Illinois. Really like his game. Dude is 6-6, 240+. 38% from 3, rebounds (5 per game), shares the ball and stout on defense.

Yeah if we get into a bidding war then we aren’t landing that recruit. Anything protracted well seems like we are just used as leverage for something better elsewhere
The two out there I’d take right now are Ian Jackson and Cedric Coward.
Coward hit 38 and 40 perfect of his threes the last 2 years and he also averaged 7 rebounds.

Seems like we went all in on Wilkerson I’m not sure there’s anyone on that level still in portal that’s realistic. Ian Jackson is good enough but seems St.John’s bound and are we really gonna pay him what he wants? Maybe the griffin kid? He was good at bama before struggling with Kansas. He’s a good shooter
Brea was absolutely stellar for us when we had Butler and Robinson threatening to dive into seams or rain hell from above if people cheated onto Brea. Once those guys went down, of course you cheat onto the number one sniper in all of college basketball. Our current team has more guys who can do some respectable-level penetrating and shooting while also playing defense well enough to stay on the court for long stretches. I dunno if it's really Tyson but we would be fine with another Brea. Just gotta find one. We get another Wilkerson and that's obviously great too.
EDIT: Okay yeah so I've looked at his stats now and remember that general conversation. As long as we're safe assuming that one Hubert Ira Davis Junior broke that man's spirit and dashed his hopes to the ground in a way that is reversible, imo Cade Tyson should be able to play the Brea role just fine for us if we get him.

Who knows, but as it stands now Jasper will be the backup PG and I'm sure he would have played more minutes than Wilkerson. It doesn't matter now, move on, I am sure Pope has multiple options he is looking at.
