Exactly. Williams is the only proven shooter, at this level, on the team. We need at least one more knockdown shooter. Maybe if Pope’s offense wasn’t so reliant on 3s it wouldn’t be such a high priority. But, if the goal is to get up 35 threes/game, you need 2-3 legit shooters, minimum.
Maybe Jasper lights it up from day 1. Maybe Chandler picks up where he left off. But, we can’t bank on that. I fear next season will end similarly to 2010 if we don’t add a consistent shooter, or, 2. Otherwise, I really like the roster, so far. I think we have a top 10 team, right now. But, to take that next step up to title contender, we have to upgrade the shooting, IMO.

I get it. We started this season with a rotation of 10, and then had multiple injuries and had a freshmen who had never played point doing so for us. I understand why the coach - or certainly, the fans - would want an 11th guy. But from a player's perspective, how do you get someone else to come? Or, if they do come, what is the risk of someone already here leaving? if it's 1972 or 1993 or even 2014, you got a decent chance of no one transferring. but those days are over. I just don't know how we get someone else to come when we already have 10. But I'm not the coach....
Really? I don't understand that. I've been away for several years (too much drama), so I've not seen this firsthand, just don't get it.
Pope’s last offense at BYU was second in points in the Big 12, while being sixth in conference play with 33% three point shooting on 31 attempts per game. They led the league in two point percentage. All while not being very athletic and having zero guys shooting 40% on more than one attempt per game.
I’d much rather have a team that shoots 35% from three and plays defense than a team that shoots 40% and doesn’t. We are the former.

How many NCAAT games did that BYU team win? I don’t want what you described, at all. Didn’t mean to infer that, if that’s how you took it. Like I said, I think we have a top 10 roster, right now. But, I want to win a championship, not just rank highly in various categories.
I agree that we should be good, defensively. Good enough to win a championship if the offense holds up its end, IMO. Maybe we can hit 35% with the current personnel. I’d be happy with that, too. I never said I want 40% as a team.
But, I’m not sure that we’re a 35% team, right now. I’m just not sold, there. We have a few guys who could shoot anywhere from 35-40+% to 30% & below. I just can’t trust that. I’d rather be sure & add a high quality shooter, or, 2. I, honestly, think we’re only a piece or 2 away from being a favorite to win it all. I just want to maximize that possibility & not leave it to chance.
We don’t know if he is or isn’t a 1st or 2nd stringer but we do know he looked good in the Patriot league and was Freshman of the year. I would have liked to have both actually.

After seeing the Hoops Summit I’m not sure at all that Jasper is better than Chandler. He looked awful. Damn near unplayable and looked like he didn’t belong on the floor with the other guys.
100% this. Pope had THREE chances to land his big scorer/big shooter with Yates/Pierre/Wilkerson and wiffed on all 3. When you’re ONE guy away from being a legit title contender you absolutely can’t miss on 3 guys like that. Overpay, do whatever you have to do to get one here. There’s nobody left that can do what those 3, especially Wilkerson can do. Ian Jackson has good potential but isn’t the perfect fit like Wilkerson would have been.
We badly need that guy who averages 16-20ppg hitting 2.8-3.5 3pt makes per game at a 44-48%+ clip. Lanier was hit major miss last year and now these 3 are his major misses this year. We will be right back in the same spot next year as we were this year unless we add a guy like described above which would make us a good team but not a real title contender.
Wilkerson is much better than Brea and would have been a better player here. He would have been Robinson if Robinson actually shot a high percentage on a large volume from 3. Plus a better athlete.
Graf said UK is trying to get involved with Jackson. Would be a huge get!

1. Oweh is currently in the draft so now is a good time to get another guard then after the portal closes Oweh comes back and we have depth.
2. I think Moreno is your third center if you have foul trouble you play 4 bigs at the 4/5 and 6 guards which means we need to add one there.

In my opinion, you cannot say we need to add a shooter or two in order to win a title. Every player plays both offense and defense, and three point shooting is only one aspect of offense. You have to consider the whole player.
