Who else thinks Oweh and Brea need to be the go-to guys?

I think they bring different skillsets. Brea is lights out from 3, and has some game inside the arc, but he's not going to break his man down and drive the lane. Oweh does. He's explosive and finishes, plus he can hit jumpers as well. We have plenty of weapons that these guys won't be needed to be that guy in every big game, but I think they need the ball in crunch time more and more.

I think as the season goes along Pope will see with the analytics . But for now if its not broke dont fix it.

I know we want KY boys to do great but Noah and Perry are missing all but 1 of their shots so far, arent defending well at all, gave up a big run at the end of this game. I think they need a season and off season to adjust to the college game and Popes system so we should think about redshirting them unless someone has an injury later in the year.

We have 4 go to guys and you named 2 of them. The other two are Robinson and Butler.

Its scary to think we have 4 when most teams have 1 or 2.

But after all-its our birthright and the deep pocket Kentuckians that love basketball as much as we do have forked out enough dough to get these guys in the bluegrass and of-course Coach Pope, and we are literally an unstoppable force already.

You guys know we will only get better and better with all the Upperclassman playing more and more together and gelling under Pope’s tutelage.
Ill say this, despite the brutal schedule. If the Zags dont get us early in the season we might run the table.

UK is simply that good, that deep, that experienced and that well coached.

How about Carr? He basically won the Duke game down the stretch.

Carr doesn't put up big numbers against these easy teams, but when we needed him he was the go-to guy in the final stretch against Duke along with Oweh. So if it ain't broke yet, I'd say out go to's are Carr and Oweh.

Why?

I've seen nothing from Noah to warrant more minutes. He's not strong enough to contribute yet and probably should be redshirted.

This. I'd love to hear the justification of why. Chandler actually showed some things last night. He clearly has more potential and is way better than Noah at this point.

I would like to see more games where the last 4 minutes is Noah and Perry and maybe Horn. The blowout win is great to me. You get almost everyone involved in the game. To me Chandler is ahead of Noah or Perry. Now I heard last night as well that one of the freshman are lagging behind and not giving 100%. That will be on them and they will only get late mop duties. Not saying which of the 3 (as a name was not given). My guess by play would probably be Perry. He has 2 really good guards in front of him. Noah can play 2 positions so he has more opportunity to get in. Again both have tons of guys in front of them and it will hard to get them in games that mean something. Chandler is on the cusp of getting more minutes. He is still shaky with the ball some. Does not protect it enough on his drives and handoffs. Same for Garrison. He has to get cleaner on his handoffs up top.

If so, then better play better than last night. That's was awful to watch us go from up 40 to winning by 29.

FWIW , like most rambling on here , Noah and Perry are not even close to being ready to contribute . Of course I will root a little extra hard for our homegrown talent , but those 2 , esp Perry , need to mature physically to be able to compete . And Chandler is so much quicker and athletic than Noah . He has a much bigger upside for this season so I'd stick with the current plan . Down the road 2-3 years our Ky guys can hopefully ball out , but they are not ready yet

And yes Oweh looks great in person . Strong , good handle , explosive . can shoot it . He might be the guy to go to in the last minute in a tight game . But it's gonna be a team effort and I think we will simply run our offense , whoever is open gets the lat shot . Not some forced BS like a Csal team .

I think it will vary from game to game. Basically whoever is “on” that night.
But those 2 might be the most often ones.

Redshirt makes more sense than playing him over Chandler all day long. Makes a lot of sense.
All players now have 5 yrs. In effect, there is no redshirt anymore.
Why do we need A go to guy?
They are all go to guys, and that makes it tougher for the enemy.
40-0
Cats by 90.

I think our “go to” guy will depend on match ups. Pope has already shown that he is excellent at identifying these match up advantages and exploiting them.
I expect Butler and Oweh to be our most consistent players.
And this is because they can both make the 3 and drive to the rack.

I remember all the scuttlebut about us not having a go-to guy. That is NOT true i think we have at least 4 go-to guys. Jaxson/Brea/Oweh/Butler and to some degree Carr and Williams inside. I think we can count on any one of those players to get us a bucket when we need it. Kinda like a go-to guy by committee for any game/matchup/situation.

We really need a 3/jumpshot Brea and Jaxson
We really need a strong drive to the basket Oweh and Butler
We really need a score in the paint Carr and Amari

Krissa, Chandler, Almoror and Garrison are top level role players also

Agree. Those guys’ time will come. It’s just not going to be this season.

I see Noah and Perry as rotation guys next year and potential starters their junior years if they both decide to stay the course.
