Where can you just be average and make millions?

UK football has so much potential to be so much better than they are. We need to change what and who we've always been. It should start with the AD. The AD needs to drive it with the right hire. IMO, Stoops had the name that satisfied Barnhart ... he had no head-coaching experience. After 10 years, this ride has had as many questions as answers about many things. The results on the field have been mixed. The road to six wins each year is paved with teams from the MAC conference. I'm OK with that but what happens when Texas and Oklahoma join the conference. I'm glad you believe in Stoop's longterm ... I think UK could do so much better. We need innovation and imagination from our coaches and that's the last thing that they have. Saturday's bowl game was the latest example of being disappointed with poor execution and quality of player development at the backup QB position ... it doesn't exist. I'm going to end this respectfully; opinions differ and that's fine. I understand why you say what you do but I believe UK could be so much more than what we see on the field. To be an SEC conference school is a huge selling point for recruits, but you have to have a great coaching staff to succeed in the conference, and the truth is we just don't have that. JMO

Sure Ky could achieve more in Stoops era. But we could have also been Vandy mizzou and usc who Stoops generally beats most years.

Saying that Tates Creek high school coach could achieve the same output over Stoops era is sort of dumb to be honest. I get this year was a disappointment and Stoops didn’t have a great year (and why Barnhart gave him even another raise is beyond my comprehension as well). But Tates Creek high school coach wouldn’t be as good nor would will levis, defensive players we have or Marrow Brad White , etc be here for some run of the mill high school coach. Way over stated your point

Stoops will get another run wjtb Coen as coordinator. If that fails, we might not be going with Stoops much longer. But Stoops has done a solid job thus far and let’s see what he can do wjtb Coen. The first go round with Coen was good stuff

Are you really comparing the difficulty of winning at Michigan and Tennessee to UK.

Plus - let’s not pretend that TN won the SEC. They still have a ways to go and must show that offense will work against top teams year in and out.

TCU - hats off to Dykes - he got lucky to get in playoffs to begin with and should of played UGA not Michigan. Again - winning B12 isn’t winning the SEC not even close - terrible comparison.
Dykes lucky? IMO Stoops is lucky to have MB in control.

Where do you think that money comes from? Paying someone that amount of money with the product is ridiculous. To be truthful salaries for sports in general is ridiculous. I can think of many professions that definitely deserve an increase in pay, ie First Responders.

Season tickets to both for over 30 years young man.

Season ticket holder for both football and basketball well over 30 years.
If you’re a season ticket holder for 30 years as you say are, then you’re part of the reason Stoops is making big $$$$.

You can do your part by writing Mitch Barnhart a nasty letter (email) informing him of your desire to cancel your season tickets.

I don’t think any of us are / were satisfied with how this season turned out. However, Stoops has earned the right to fix the problem, and so far I think he has.

Very well said.

I think we can both agree that it is awesome for us as fans to be in this position where the next hire may really put us over the top, instead of just hoping the next hire can get us to a bowl game. That’s only happened once in my lifetime and it took 3 years for joker to turn us back to the old Kentucky.

1st - The word mediocrity.

“You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.” -Inigo Montoya

Mediocrity means “in the middle. Average or below average quality.” If you get to the point where you are bouncing in/out of the top 25 and are winning 7-10 games a year at a place with Kentucky’s situation and history…..this is anything but mediocre.

2nd - nobody is satisfied. There isn’t a single fan, coach, player, etc that wouldn’t change more wins for what we’ve done.

But this does not mean that we should lose sight of the bigger picture. Sure, I’d love it if Kentucky finished in the top 10 and won a big bowl game, but what I’d love more is for my kids to grow up with a nationally respectable program. A program that doesn’t win 3-4 games/yr on average. A program that isn’t the basement of the conference every year. A program that doesn’t collapse every coaching change. A changed program.

There are very, very, very few ways to change a program. Stoops is doing it right now. If anyone can’t understand what he is doing for the program long term, they’re either blind, in denial, or not old enough to understand the history of the program.

3rd - nobody is worth the price. Saban is not worth $11 million/yr. Mahommes is not worth what he’s getting paid. Shoot, even the worst coaches in Div I football is making hundreds of thousands if not millions.

That's like the old joke: "What do you call the person who finished last in the doctor's class?"

The answer is: "Doctor."

I wouldn't know. We do see some random teams step up and at least compete for the playoff spots a time or two to go with the usuals each year. Just about every SEC team (believe it is 10) has played in the SEC Title game in the last 25 years. I'd be happy to get to that level just once in a blue moon. I'm not asking to be at the basketball level where we expect to be in contention every year. Playing in the SEC Championship 9nce every 10 years isn't a huge stretch to want to get to.

I think we blew our shot with every SEC East team except Georgia being down recently and not taking full advantage of it. Now Tennessee looks to be back up. South Carolina made some improvements. I don't expect Florida to be down to much longer. Going to be extremely tough now to get there.
It's always going to be difficult for UK football. History tells us that. The point of my question was that the overwhelming percentage of football and basketball coaches never play for a championship. So they never take the next step. To suggest it would be prudent for UK to move on from its most successful football coach ever just because we haven't gotten to the SEC championship game is ridiculous. If the standard is coaches who don't play for conference championships, or make the football playoffs, should be fired, then 95% of coaches would be fired every year.

But when the agenda is to minimize anything having to do with UK football, it's the argument naysayers hang onto.

I don't know any UK football fan that's satisfied with the season UK football had in 2022....and that's good and is also a huge change in attitude. I remember a time I'd give my left nut for a seven win season but now I want more and I imagine a vast majority of UK fans do too.

Well said
Lol. So you can pay for tickets, my bad. Take your 2ND GRADE fallacies and keep walkin. (Look up "fallacy" and you will find a list of hundreds of which your OP is one.)
Lol

We've gone from a 0 win floor with the occasional 7 win season, over DECADES, to a 7 win floor that's disappointing to everybody with occasional 10 win seasons... And this retard wants to fire the coach.
Schedule enough cupcakes and we can get there every year. Look at our wins this year, yep Vandy wasn’t even one of them.
It was obvious after the Northern Illinois game that our offensive line and special teams were an issue and that only continued to grow.
Whose fault is that? Who in charge of the recruitment and makes the hires? This was supposed to be the year of the next step.
If you are satisfied with paying a king’s ransom to be mediocre then you are part of the problem.
Let’s see where next year takes us with seven cupcakes to begin with ( that should make you happy) then Mississippi State and Mizzou, both should be wins. Then comes the real test with Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama and SC. Looks like we might get seven or beyond but that is without Levis and CRod. If we make it to the SEC East playoff I will be satisfied.
Stoops is far above average.
How about Vandy?

This year was looked at as possibly that next step in the football program. That changed
to mediocrity by mid season.
Sure he has taken us to several bowls but not one of those years have we been in the SEC East playoff picture, not one.
NIL has only become part of the equation this year. It has absolutely played no part in CMS win/loss record during his tenure.
But what are you trying to say? Most in the college football world consider what Stoops has done here to be nearly impossible. What do you want? I fully believe most "successful" coaches would come here and fail. NIL has made it worse, look at Rogers leaving. What is it you think we accomplish here anyway?

So I think what this thread is basically saying is that rexshep cat is an idiot?
Loser mentality at its best. We can never win the SEC east or for that matter the SEC Championship. We should never expect to make it to the NC playoff.
Let’s blame NIL, transfer portal, the state we live in. It could never be the coaches fault. The OC, special teams and offensive line this year; don’t dare send any blame toward the coach, says the true idiot.

Look at the schedule we just finished and tell which game was an impossibility. The first four games were cupcakes, then we were 3-6 after that. The only game I was truly surprised to win was Florida, that was until everyone else beat them. Our biggest win was Mississippi State. IMPOSSIBLE??

That isn't what I said. Reading comprehension is your friend. We had an off year with a bad OC. So what.

This was said to be possibly UKs best team ever in the preseason. So when that doesn’t happen you want to blame NIL or the transfer portal for a team that is already in place. Off year absolutely. We should have beaten Vandy, SC and Mississippi . I don’t think that is an impossibility for the best UK team ever and one of the best coaches in the nation??
Who hired the OC and chose not to have a coach for special teams?

We did beat Mizzou you old incompetent fart. Or was that the 12th game you missed since you think we only play 11 games?

That should have been Mississippi instead of Missouri during the 12 regular season games.
Old maybe, incompetence is for those that settle for losing.

Lol, you still can't read or you're drunk. I didn't blame either thing. We had an idiot for an OC. That was 90% of our issues. As for the word "impossible", I was obviously referring to Stoops turning us into a respectable program. This year was an anomaly. If not sure what your primary malfunction is but you're making yourself look terrible.

Yes Stoops made a bad hire. It happens everywhere, so what? You need to get over yourself.

I’m guessing drunk is the primary driver.

He’s spent two days arguing . . . . . But came up with this gem:

“That 12th game was Iowa a bowl game and another loss.”

Ummm, RexKwanDo needs remedial math!!
Don't make me laugh AT someone, @Deeeefense may put me in timeout again.

lol WE COULD NOT WIN A SINGLE POWER FIVE CONFERENCE. So, talk smack about the Big 12 but we are incapable of putting up points like those teams and TCU would beat the piss out of us this year.

I doubt we could have this year with Levis's injury, but in 2018 and 2021, I think we would have been better than any in the PAC 12, and perhaps the Big 12.

Either way, there is nop way to prove your theory or mine.

Do you think someone that coaches 11 football games in one year has a greater value than someone that will possibly make ldecisions and take actions to save someone in your family? Physician, First Responders
So you don’t like capitalism?
Personally I think teachers should make more than football coaches but the market sets the prices for everything. You’re worth whatever someone will pay you regardless of moral or ethical reasons you may have to feel differently. The highest paid state employee in 40 of the 50 states is a football or basketball coach. If you live in Alaska, Delaware, Maine, Massachusetts, Montana, New Hampshire, N Dakota, Rhode Island, S Dakota or Vermont congrats, your top paid public employee isn’t a coach.

The Big 12 has been an offensive league for a good while. What usually happens when those teams meet up with teams with strong defenses?
Mumme scored a lot of points and still lost a lot of games. It doesn’t matter how many you score as long as you score more than the other team.

No, there isn't but let's go look back just to see who was who in 2018.

Big 12 champ- Oklahoma made CFP and had Kyler Murray and CeeCee Lamb.
Pac 12 champ- Washington 10-4, Wash State 11-2
Big 10 and ACC champs were OSU and Clemson

2021
Big 12 champ- Oklahoma State went 12-2 and won the Fiesta Bowl in a shootout over Notre Dame. Baylor went 12-2 and won the Sugar Bowl.
Pac 12 champ- Utah went 10-3 and then lost 47-45 to Ohio State

So, I think at best, we could have been in contention to win the Pac 12 but I think the Big 12 routinely puts a better top tier team than us every year despite the flaws of that conference.

Sorry that you settle for mediocrity. Let’s look at just a few schools that have either come from nowhere or have made a rebound surpassing UK in the past few years. TCU, Michigan, Tennessee, Utah, Penn State, Oregon State, Washington. Yes we have made it to several bowls but never have we been in the conference playoff conversation in the second half of the season.

Now, compare his record to schools with UKs resources and a comparable history. Or just make a post with no intellectual value, your choice.

So is that how the playoff system works, a comparison of resources and history? The only record that really matters are the W/L in the SEC. We were 3-5 in the SEC with a loss to Vandy included. If you want to count the cupcake team wins we can always have an undefeated record there, just take a look at this years cupcake schedule.
