Where can you just be average and make millions?

Maybe we should start 6 more threads saying this?

Should I put up a poll to decide?

Really?

Ok, stoops isn’t perfect

He’s the best coach UK has ever had and wants to be here
Let’s settle for middle of the pack and keep Stoops because he wants to be here. Let’s give him a raise and lifetime contract while we are at it. But how dare you complain about a loss in the future. We are UK and can never improve, right?

You have a LOSER mentality. Winning schools don’t tolerate mediocrity and losers, ie UK Basketball during Gillespie two years and somewhat with Joker. Unfortunately many in the fan base have learned to accept that with football, thinking it can’t be changed. Basketball has recently started down that same road.
Lol If you think only $400,000 of his salary comes from UK.
For someone who has been a season ticket holder for 30 years you don’t have a clue about history or how coaches are paid.

over 30 yr season tickets holder? So you willingly paid for the Bill Curry era, the Joker Phillips era? But what Stoops has done, in particular over the last 7 yrs, is not good enough?

This year was looked at as possibly that next step in the football program. That changed
to mediocrity by mid season.
Sure he has taken us to several bowls but not one of those years have we been in the SEC East playoff picture, not one.
NIL has only become part of the equation this year. It has absolutely played no part in CMS win/loss record during his tenure.
Did you not see about the offensive coordinator?

Coen is back. Can you agree that move is a move towards being better at football?

I have no knowledge of your football iq or experience, but if me and you were in charge of the offense this season I believe we could have finished 7-6.

Lol, you are the one who thinks the majority of their pay comes from commercials. Ticket sales, media contracts and booster donations to the university play no part right?

I would agree we could have done at least that well but much of that was due to an inept Offensive Line. Special Teams also cost us at least two games.

No concern about losing your job, just be average.
This is a flawed argument. Coaches get paid alot. Actors get paid alot, even mediocre ones. There are people that aren't great at their jobs that make more than others do for the same job because of seniority. People are irritated at coaches because that particular job demands millions and not thousands like the jobs most fans have, but it is all relative.

Yeah, your season tickets would be half the cost if Stoops made less money. You are truly clueless.

You're the one that thinks that a man deserves 9 million dollars a year to coach 11 GAMES per year. And who is clueless?

It doesn’t matter what I think. The market sets the value of one’s labor. The value of one’s labor is what someone is willing to pay for it. Whether you agree or not coaches and athletes generate a lot of revenue so the market will place great value on their labor.

Again, it could be $18M, and none of the pennies in your pockets are needed, so why do you care

Do you think someone that coaches 11 football games in one year has a greater value than someone that will possibly make ldecisions and take actions to save someone in your family? Physician, First Responders

Seems like there are two types of fans these days, those that appreciate stoops and want him to make the steps necessary to try and make a playoff sometime, and those who expect us to be Alabama or they are mad.
The question is how many years does it take to get to the next level? Will you be fine if the best we can do is 7 or 8 wins with a rare 10 win season for another 10 years? I'm not saying get rid of him, but he definitely needs to start taking that next step. Expectations have been raised, hes being paid top 10 pay, and fans want to be more than a middle of the pack team.

Also you can't just keep comparing what we were in the past to make a 7-6 season acceptable. The landscape of the SEC and college football is not the same as it was in our mediocre past. Let's hope we start seeing the next step here soon before we are passed up by more schools. The SEC isn't going to get any easier with the conference additions in a year or two.

What percentage of coaches would you say take the next step?

The next time you feel the urge to complain about the increase in prices for gas, food or anything in general, just remember the market sets the value!

Sadly, I think this year would have been the next step had coen not left. Instead it ended up being arguably the most disappointing year of the stoops era.

I think he is attempting to make the next step by re-hiring him, getting the top qb transfer and building a modern personel offensively.

For the next 10 years if we go to a bowl game every year, have 10 wins four of those years and go 8-2 in the bowl games I absolutely would be happy!

That’s exactly what we would be if you take the last 5 years and double it.

I’m not sure what point you are trying to make with that. General inflation has no relationship to what a coach makes.

Dude is such an old stupid basketball guy he is ignorant of the fact CFB went to a 12 game regular season 15 yrs ago. Pathetic.

Because you could go down the street and hire the Tates Creek football coach for pocket change and get something close to the same result ... maybe better.
Are you talking basketball or football? I think my 12 year old niece could have the same record as Cal since 2018, and definitely wins the 2015 title.

You have to be about 7 years old based on this if you are talking about football.

Most of us grew up hoping to win one SEC Game, maybe pull an upset in non conference most seasons, then every once in a while get lucky enough to make a bowl.

Stoops may not be nick saban, but he is doing things never done at Kentucky. Don’t be foolish.

The market sets the value so apparently that makes it ok and we shouldn’t complain when the cost of something is ridiculous.
Seems there are a lot of Cat fans complaining about Cals lifetime contract at 9 mil per year. At least he coaches 30 plus games a year.
Either way if you get paid an extreme salary and you just have to be mediocre you lose the hunger.

So you think a coach with nearly a 50/50 record deserves 9 million dollars per year? And before you compare him to other UK coaches let’s take a look at other coaches across the country over the past few years that have come out of nowhere to totally surpass anything Stoops has done
Not what he said. You have a problem with reading comprehension. Personally, I don't think any coach is worth that, but I don't write the contracts. After all how much was St. Peter's coach making? Or Gardner Webb, or Evansville, etc.

Government policy can affect overall inflation. But aside from that the market determines the price and I have no problem with that.

Think me and you already had several discussions on this. If you think that a random guy is getting 10 wins at Kentucky then you are an absolute idiot. Stoops did that two times.

Come on man, it’s fun to argue back and forth if you bring any type of logic to the table, but just saying stupid things like the other poster did about a high school coach could do what stoops has done at Kentucky is insane.

You want to point out the worst game of the season but fail to mention that over the last 11 years Kentucky has reached places never before seen here.

I wouldn't hurt to try to remain objective regarding Stoops. UK's past in football is disgusting to be sure but just because Stoops has been able to improve UK to some level of respectability doesn't mean has is the answer to being realistically competitive in this conference going forward. This coaching staff is anything but innovative. The staff turnover is troubling. There seems to be more questions than answers. I just don't think he's going to be able to take this program any higher than what you see today and that's not good enough because it could be so much more. Maybe your standards are different than mine, but I just don't want to accept mediocrity ... we should want and demand better. Oh, BTW ... the seven-year old line is moronic because it implies that if I don't agree with you, I'm a child? I'll let you own that one. Never been done? Bear Bryant and Fran Curci would disagree. Great things could be possible at UK with the right AD and coach. The SEC is a great conference where great players want to play. Wrong coach and here we are again, after 10 years. Fix the AD first.

If you really believe that then you have no concept of UK football history nor do you have the ability for rational thought.
If you read the post to which I was responding the question was, "why do people obsess over coaches' salaries"? They obsess because what they're being paid is not equivalent to the result on the field. I have all the concept I need of UK football history because I've lived it for far too long and don't need a lecture from you or anyone about rational thought ... I've got that covered. We just differ in opinion on things apparently ... the difference being is that I won't try to denigrate you if my opinions are different.

I wouldn't know. We do see some random teams step up and at least compete for the playoff spots a time or two to go with the usuals each year. Just about every SEC team (believe it is 10) has played in the SEC Title game in the last 25 years. I'd be happy to get to that level just once in a blue moon. I'm not asking to be at the basketball level where we expect to be in contention every year. Playing in the SEC Championship once every 10 years isn't a huge stretch to want to get to.

I think we blew our shot with every SEC East team except Georgia being down recently and not taking full advantage of it. Now Tennessee looks to be back up. South Carolina made some improvements. I don't expect Florida to be down to much longer. Going to be extremely tough now to get there.

7 year old was because you would only be old enough to think Kentucky has always been good and respectable at football, like you only have a 7 year window of what Kentucky football is and not a lifetime experiencing 2 win seasons, growing up never expecting a bowl game. It has nothing to do with you are a child because you disagree with me. You will let me own that I don’t know what that even means.

You said you could go to tates creek and get someone that can do what stoops has done. That is insane. When has Kentucky made a bowl game this many times in a row, or won 10 games twice in 4 seasons? NEVER.

Stoops has a better record than Fran curci in a much more modern era of football, why would you say he begs to differ on success at Kentucky when he didn’t even have a winning record at Kentucky!

Bear Bryant was the greatest coach of all time before saban came around in an era where resources really didn’t matter as much and coaching did, that was what 70 years ago?

I completely agree on Atheltic director though. If stoops leaves before mitch, we just as well all find a new team.

UK football has so much potential to be so much better than they are. We need to change what and who we've always been. It should start with the AD. The AD needs to drive it with the right hire. IMO, Stoops had the name that satisfied Barnhart ... he had no head-coaching experience. After 10 years, this ride has had as many questions as answers about many things. The results on the field have been mixed. The road to six wins each year is paved with teams from the MAC conference. I'm OK with that but what happens when Texas and Oklahoma join the conference. I'm glad you believe in Stoop's longterm ... I think UK could do so much better. We need innovation and imagination from our coaches and that's the last thing that they have. Saturday's bowl game was the latest example of being disappointed with poor execution and quality of player development at the backup QB position ... it doesn't exist. I'm going to end this respectfully; opinions differ and that's fine. I understand why you say what you do but I believe UK could be so much more than what we see on the field. To be an SEC conference school is a huge selling point for recruits, but you have to have a great coaching staff to succeed in the conference, and the truth is we just don't have that. JMO.
