What is the first great recruiting class you remember?

You mean nobody has mentioned the awesome class of Shagari Alleyne, Sheray Thomas, woo orbzut and bobby perry? NBA height all around!

Indiana

Chris Lawson
Chris Reynolds
Calbert Cheaney
Greg Graham
Pat Graham
Matt Nover

Just think if they had got Eric Montross who went to North Carolina.

I go way back, and I remember the 1971 Class of Kevin Grevey, Jimmy Dan Conner, Mike Flynn, Bob Guyette, Steve Lochmueller, Jerry Hale, and G.J. Smith. They were nicknamed the Super Kittens, and there were at least four Mr. Basketballs in that group. Freshmen were ineligible for varsity play, and they were undefeated against other Freshmen teams. Three years later we added Rick Robey, Mike Phillips, Jack Givens, James Lee, and Dan Hall.
This was about the time I started paying attention to UK basketball. Those were some great classes back in the day.

With one guy who was a significant NBA player?

No, not a chance. Even if you count Mel Turpin as part of that class (he was basically stored for a year at a prep school), not even close. That was the era when recruiting started to get a lot of hype, and Bowie, Minniefield, and Hord were considered very big recruits, but realistically, that class doesn't measure up to what's happened recently at UK, or to a lot of classes at other schools between then and now.

I didn't say that UK's 1979 recruiting class was UK's best ever. I said that the 79 class overall nationwide was the greatest class ever. Ralph Sampson, Bowie, Steve Stipanovich, James Worthy, Dominique Wilkins, Clark Kellogg, Isiah Thomas, Terry Cummings, Byron Scott, Jeff Malone, etc.

I'm in my early 30s and remember the class with Ellis and Mills. The first great recruit I got pumped about was Mashburn. He might be the greatest to ever wear the jersey over a three year career. The first great class I remember was Rhodes, Prickett, Delk, Dent, McCarty. Rhodes was dynamic at first, until he hit a freshmen wall.

I am 38, and the first one I kind of remember was the 1984 class of:

Ed Davender - McDonalds All American
Richard Madison - McDonalds All American
Rob Lock - Parade All American
Cedric Jenkins - McDonalds All American
Todd Zeigler

But the first great recruiting class I really remember was the 1992 class of:

Rodrick Rhodes - McDonalds All American
Jared Prickett
Tony Delk - McDonalds All American
Walter McCarty - Parade All American
Rodney Dent - JUCO All American
Anybody remember the herald -Leaders cartoons on front of sports page with usually a commentary from D.G. Fitzmaurice. I remember the main characters where the small cat and a really tall one called big Boo. Those where the good ole days before Mr. Tipton came on board and became UK's moral police.

UK fans where tired of UCLA getting all the elite talent and I believe it was Joe B's introductory presser that he said he was going to hit the road recruiting . Started paying attention then ?

Derrick Miller was in the class with Chapman and that's it, unless you count a kid named Terry Shig.

Terry Shigg was a walk-on, pretty sure he wasn't recruited. But he was Gatorade State Player of the Year in South Dakota while in high school so that's something. (Makes for a great trivia question BTW).
